John Durso, 84, food and beverage manager

John B. Durso, 84, of Bellevue, a food and beverage manager for country clubs in Cincinnati, died Saturday in St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.

He was a member of St. Anthony Church in Bellevue, belonged to the Bellevue Vets and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

"He was pretty outgoing and had a great sense of humor, " said Mr. Durso's daughter, Debbie Botts of Hebron. "He was very much a people-type person.

"He liked to golf and enjoyed sports that my brothers played during high school. He loved sports and enjoyed following the Reds and Bengals. He also liked music, especially Pavarotti and Frank Sinatra.

"His father was a chef, and that's why he had an interest in the line of work he was in."

Other survivors include his wife, Betty Durso; sons, David Durso of Butner, N.C., Dennis Durso of Louisville, Doug Durso of Frankfort, Dale Durso of Fort Thomas and Duncan Durso of Cincinnati; daughters, Donna Sayers, Denise Durso and Deana Durso, all of Bellevue; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Divine Mercy Church in Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Stephen cemetery in Fort Thomas.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, 8899 Brookside Ave., Suite 102, West Chester, Ohio, 45069.

A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home of Bellevue is handling arrangements.

Alice Alean Arrasmith Barnes, 101, of Burlington, died Friday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence. She was a retired clerk with Gulley's Grocery Store and a member of Burlington Baptist Church. Her first husband, Claude M. Arrasmith, died in 1948. Her second husband, Robert Barnes, died in 2003. A daughter, Anna Burris, also died in 2003.

Survivors include a son, Charles Arrasmith of Burlington; a brother, Lee Portwood of Burlington; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Services were at noon today at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Burial was in Burlington Cemetery.

Anthony Michael Benge, 36, of Covington, died Wednesday at his home. He was a freelance graphic designer.

Survivors include his father, W. Dennis Benge of Covington; his mother and stepfather, Sue Ellen and William J. Kozarek of Jenson Beach, Fla.; a sister, Tara French of Ohio; and grandparents, Ruth Paulis of Fort Wright and William Benge of Demossville.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Gardnersville Cemetery, Pendleton County.

Louise Bosse, 84, of Bellevue, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a retired clerk with the federal government, and a member of Divine Mercy Church Bereavement Committee and Altar Society, the Northern Kentucky Guild for the Retarded, Avenue Women's Club and Bellevue Lionetts. She was a volunteer with Hosea House, Christian Friends and Bellevue Vets Retirees.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Divine Mercy Church, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Alberta Marie Eggleston Bowlin, 90, of Milan, Ind., formerly of Petersburg, died at 1:10 p.m. Saturday at Ripley Crossing Nursing Home, Milan. She was a homemaker and a member of Bullittsville Christian Church. Her husband, William H. Bowlin, died in 1967. A son, William Eugene Bowlin, died in 1972.

Survivors include sons, Howard Wayne Bowling of Lawrenceburg, Ind., and Richard Earl Bowlin of Burlington; daughters, Mary Lou Kaiser of Hebron and Barbara Ruth Moore of Union; a brother, Carroll Lee Eggleston of Burlington; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Ripley Crossing Nursing Home Activity Fund, 1200 Whitlatch Way, Milan, Ind. 47031.

Roy William Eason, 83, of Walton, died Thursday at Veterans Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a bricklayer and a Navy veteran of World War II. His wife, Mary Christine Eason, died in 1979.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Margaret Fields of Crittenden; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Crittenden. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Senior Services of Northern Kentucky, 1032 Madison Ave., Covington, Ky. 41011.

Mary Catherine Fassler, the daughter of Matt and Molly McMahon Fassler of Fort Thomas, was stillborn at 11:45 p.m. Friday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.

Survivors include grandparents, Dave and Gayle McMahon, and Bernie and Janet Fassler, all of Fort Thomas; and great-grandparents, Joanne New, Lee McMahon and Vivian Hay, all of Fort Thomas.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Good Samaritan Hospital, 375 Dixmyth Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45220. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.

William Fryman, 92, of Paris, died Saturday at Edgemont Manor, Cynthiana. He was a retired auto body repairman and a member of Wagoner's Chapel United Methodist Church and American Legion Bourbon Post No. 30. He was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Maymie VanHook Fryman, preceded him in death. There are no immediate survivors.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 508 E. Pike St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031.

Mildred Wishman Hart, 84, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Arrangements are pending at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill.

John P. Huhn, 79, of Southgate, died at 5:09 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired carpet layer, a member of the Bobwhite Club in Alexandria and St. Therese Church, Southgate.

Survivors include a brother, Clarence Huhn of Southgate; a sisters, Elizabeth Christian-Sandfoss of Fort Thomas; nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Therese Church. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to St. Therese Church, 11 Temple Place, Southgate, Ky. 41071.

Leigh A. Long, 65, of Cynthiana, died Saturday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana. He was a farmer and owner of Trees and Me Originals and the Double L Set-Up Co., and was a former employee of Bundy Tubing Co. He was a member of American Association of Woodturners, Ohio Valley Woodturners Association and Cynthiana Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Richie Long; a son, David A. Long of Cynthiana; a daughter, Laura F. Long of Cynthiana; a sister, Norma Ecklar of Harrison County; six grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 508 E. Pike St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031; or the church of the donor's choice.

Marian Lucas, 82, of Florence, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of Florence United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Lucas; a daughter, Nancy Lucas Smith of Sanders; a son, Mark Lucas of Louisville; sisters, Alma Brooks of Florence and Florella Ransdell of Owenton; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Florence Cemetery. Burial will be in Florence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Florence United Methodist Church, 8585 Old Toll Road, Florence, Ky. 41042. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.

Mary Schwab, 47, of Erlanger, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Arrangements are pending at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger.

Harry Edward Schmeing, 70, of Covington, died Thursday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. He was a truck driver with J.B. Hunt at Prime Source.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Schmeing; daughters, Lori Dehner of Erlanger, Lynn Baker of Florida and Lisa Fouts of Edgewood; sons, Mark Schmeing of Burlington and Harry Edward Schmeing III of Fort Meyers, Fla.; sisters, Mary Ann Meyers and Sylvia Schmeing, both of Lakeside Park, and Kathleen Boss of Fort Thomas; four stepchildren, 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Oxana H. Uze, 99, of Covington, died Saturday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington.

Arrangements are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.

Dolorus Rosetta Varner, 85, of Cynthiana, died Saturday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church. Her husband, Harry Bryant Varner, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Harry David Varner of Harrison County and Johnnie B. Varner of Lexington; and a granddaughter.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 508 E. Pike St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031.

Johnie C. West, 84, of Latonia, died at 10:55 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a retired stationary engineer with Ashland Oil in Latonia and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Rose Schultz West; a daughter, Gretchen West Patton of Atlanta; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.
