Ruth Wolnitzek, 90, her family came first
Like many women of her generation, Ruth Meiners Wolnitzek saw raising a family and keeping house as her most important job.
"Whenever one of the three of us needed something, she was always there, " said her son, Steve Wolnitzek of Fort Wright. Her grandchildren felt the same way about her, he said.
Mrs. Wolnitzek, 90, who died Sunday at St. Margaret Hall in Cincinnati, grew up in Latonia and went to Holy Cross High School.
When her father died, she had to quit school to help support her family. For a while, she worked as a sales clerk in a candy store her mother owned.
When she was in her late 20s, she met Fred Wolnitzek, an Austinburg resident who also had to quit school to support his family. They were married
in 1939.
They moved to Fort Wright in 1948 and joined St. Agnes parish, where Mrs. Wolnitzek would worship until her death.
For many years, she prayed for an hour a week as part of the church's Perpetual Adoration Society. She also served with the church's altar society.
Her children attended St. Xavier High School in Finneytown, Ohio, and she volunteered with the school's mother's club even after they graduated.
In her later years, Mrs. Wolnitzek enjoyed traveling with her friends in clubs for seniors such as the Happy Hilltoppers, Kentucky Rovers and Golden Age.
A member of the Summit Hills Country Club, she played golf until she was 80. Once on a Kenton County course, she made a hole-in-one.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1978.
Other survivors include a son, Rick Wolnitzek of Fort Wright; a daughter, Sue Thompson of Cincinnati; and eight grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will begin there at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Marilyn Lee Beck, 49, of California, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of Silver Grove Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur Beck; a daughter, April Howard of Florence; a brother, Robert Riggs of Independence; and a half-sister.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grant's Lick. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.
Louise Besse, 84, of Bellevue, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a retired clerk with the federal government, and a member of Divine Mercy Church Bereavement Committee and Altar Society, the Northern Kentucky Guild for the Retarded, Avenue Women's Club and Bellevue Lionetts. She was a volunteer with Hosea House, Christian Friends and Bellevue Vets Retirees.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.

James M. Brumer, 55, of Covington, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
Survivors include a sister, Jackie Hill of Covington.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. C&C; Mortuary Service, Covington, is handling arrangements.
Jerry Franklin Craddock, 57, of Covington, was found dead Monday at his home.
Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Mildred Wishman Hart, 84, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired buyer with the J.C. Penney Co., and was a member of Latonia Christian Church, a past president of the church's Builders Class, and a past matron of Rosebud Chapter No. 39 Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Queen Esther's Court Order of the Amaranth. Her husband, James B. Hart, died in 1996.
Survivors include sons, H. Paul Hart of Florence, James E. Hart of Piner and Ronald E. Hart of Taylor Mill; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Eastern Star services at 7:45 p.m. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Louise A. Harvey, 94, of Highland Heights, died Thursday at Northern Kentucky Care and Rehabilitation Center, Highland Heights. She was a retired machine operator with Frank Tea and Spice Co.
Survivors include a son, William L. Harvey of Cincinnati, a niece and nephew.
Services were this morning at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Burial was in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Brayden Jacob Hoffman, the son of Mark N. and Gina Hoffman of Taylor Mill, was stillborn at 4:06 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
Other survivors include a sister, Abbey S. Hoffman of Taylor Mill; grandparents, Mark A. and Susan Hoffman, and Melvin and Susan Downey, all of Independence; and great-grandmother, Diane Bickers of Erlanger.

Randell Scott Holder, 61, of Owenton, died Sunday at his home. He was a butcher with Gallatin County IGA and a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene Beckham Holder; a son, Troy Holder of Sanders; a daughter, Traci Holder Courtney of Carrollton; a brother, Jimmy Holder of Sanders; sisters, Connie Clifton of Louisville and Debbie Smith of Greenup; and three grandchildren.

Willa Louise Karrick, 79, of Florence, died Sunday at her home. She was a comptroller with First National Bank, a member of Florence Christian Church and a past president of the Florence Elementary School PTA.
Survivors include her husband, Jack T. Karrick; a son, Greg Karrick of Florence; a brother, C.W. Flairty of Media, Pa.; sisters, JoAnna Russo of Concord, Calif., and Betty Webster of Deltona, Fla.; two grandchildren and a step-grandchild.

Deloris Losey McNabb, 80, of Erlanger, died Sunday at her daughter's home in Verona. She was a bookkeeper with Crestville Dugs in Crescent Springs and a member of Erlanger Baptist Church. Her husband, Walter L. McNabb, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Yvonne McNabb Smallwood of Verona; sons, Roger McNabb of Pomona, Calif., and Robert "Larry" McNabb of Burlington; a brother, Ray Losey of Walton; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Thomas Nathan Rogg, 55, of Bellevue, died Saturday at his home. He was a truck driver with Crown Aluminum, Cincinnati, a member of Lawler Hanlon VFW Post No. 5662 in Newport and a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include a daughter, Brooke Rogg of Silver Grove; a son, Jason Rogg of Silver Grove; a stepson, Chris Sapp of Dayton; sisters, Lynn Schweitzer and Mary Bryan, both of Newport, Angela Perry of Dayton and May McDaniel of Williamstown; brothers, Joe Rogg of Bellevue, Jim Rogg of Newport and Harry Rogg of Butler; and four grandchildren.

Irene Newby Schmidt, 87, of Cincinnati, formerly of Grant County, died Sunday at Woodcrest Manor Care Center, Elsmere. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Albert Schmidt, died in 1990. A son, Kenny Schmidt, died in 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Pam Fields of Villa Hills; brothers, Clinton "Bud" Newby of Taylor Mill, James Newby and Gene Newby, both of Union; and three grandchildren.

Mary Schwab, 47, of Erlanger, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a former employee of the Gibson Greeting Card Co.

Raymond Turner, 69, of Covington, died Sunday at his residence. He was a retired supervisor from Duro Bag, Richwood. He was a member of the New Macedonia Old Regular Baptist Church, Newport; White Dove Baptist Church, Williamstown; and Robert Burns Masonic Lodge, Newport.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Turner; a son, Brian Carrington of Norwood; daughters, Ina Dockery and Nora Moscoe, both of Falmouth, Mary Baughn of Newport, Bobbi Herald of Elsmere, Rachael Bowman of Hazel Park, Mich., and Linda Thompson of Taylor Mill; his mother and stepfather, Ellen and Sam Bach of Cincinnati; a brother, Orville Turner of Covington; a sister, Mavery Jett of Highland Heights; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Oxana H. Uze, 99, of Fort Wright, died Saturday at St. Charles Care Center, Fort Wright. She was a homemaker. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Passaic, N.J. Her husband, Joseph A. Uze, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Ivan J. Hughes of Park Hills; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ronald R. Vogel, 66, of Newport, died Sunday at Cardinal Hill Specialty Hospital, Fort Thomas. He was a retired private detective and a Navy veteran. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 200.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Bartholomew Vogel; a son, three daughters, and 11 grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport.
Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Sydney Rose VonHandorf, of Taylor Mill, died Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.
Survivors include her parents, Matthew W. and Kelly J. VonHandorf of Taylor Mill; paternal grandmother, Dolores VonHandorf of Cold Spring; and maternal grandparents, Jay and Nancy Brun of Bellevue.
