Betty Stephany, store manager
Betty Stephany was a workaholic.
"She worked in stores 13 years and never missed a day, " said her husband, Michael Stephany.
"If she felt sick, she would go in anyway. She never complained. She enjoyed work. I used to tell her she was a workaholic."
Mrs. Stephany, 63, of Newport, died Wednesday at University Hospital in Cincinnati after suffering a heart attack over the weekend.
She was manager of the Family Dollar Store in Dayton.
Mrs. Stephany previously worked at Family Dollar Stores in Newport and Covington and before that worked at other retail stores, including United Dairy Farmers.
"She got along well with customers because she liked to be around people, " said her husband of 32 years.
"She was friendly with everybody and everybody liked her. She would do anything for you."
Mrs. Stephany enjoyed fishing.
Other survivors include a sister, Ruth Hogue of Batavia, Ohio; two daughters, Kim Stephany of Center City, Ind., and Lisa Rudolph of Covington; a son, Mikey Stephany of Newport, and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home in Newport.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery in Cincinnati.
Michael A. "Stormwatcher" Brandes, 53, of Cookeville, Tenn., formerly of Covington, died Wednesday at his home.
He was owner of Mr. Husband Home Maintenance Co.
Survivors include his wife, Lee W. Brandes; a son, Devin Brandes of St. Augustine, Fla.; a stepson, Richard Beam of Kyle, Texas; a stepdaughter, Tammy Mosley of Tyler, Texas; his mother, Marie Barnett of Cookeville; a sister, Christine Brandes of Cincinnati; and two granddaughters.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Crest Lawn Funeral Home, Cookeville.

Lanis Keller Burns, 79, of New Columbus, died at 6:29 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown.
He was a retired machine maintenance technician with Lodge & Shipley Co., Cincinnati, and a member of New Columbus Baptist Church.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Harrell Burns; a daughter, Jennifer McCreary of Louisa; sons, Daniel Greene and Steve Greene, both of New Columbus, and Jack Christopher Greene of Florence; a sister, Helen Simms of Mount Olivet; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at McDaniel Funeral Home, Corinth.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in New Columbus Cemetery.

ElWanda Jean Cole, 59, of Verona, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include daughters, Steffanie Abbott of Walton and Tracy Burton of Verona; her mother, Dorothy Clarkston of Verona; a brother, Bill Clarkston of Verona; a sister, Ruby Hunt of Crittenden; and three grandchildren.
No services are planned. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 tonight at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona.

Euna R. Estes, 88, of Walton, died Tuesday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington.

Vernell Popplewell Harrison, 59, of Hamilton, Ohio, died Thursday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Robert Popplewell of Henryville, Ind.; daughters, Angie Bartlett of Erlanger and Susan Menear of Cincinnati; her mother and stepfather, Lula and Arnold Caudill of Cincinnati; brothers, John Caudill of Yorktown, Va., Timmy Popplewell, Terry Popplewell, Doug Caudill and Tom Popplewell, all of Cincinnati; sisters, Rita Grubbs, Debbie Williams, Regina Owens and Renita Kimble, all of Cincinnati; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Home, Alexandria.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Tina M. Hill, 37, of Dayton, died Sunday at her home.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Leah Hill of Dayton; a son, Nicholas Hill of Dayton; her mother, Lola Koch of Dayton; and sisters, Jackie Koch of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., and Katie Florence of Knoxville, Tenn.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Dayton.
Cremation will be at Southwest Ohio Crematory, Milford, Ohio.

Luther Jackson Maxwell Sr., 62, of Morning View, died Tuesday at his home.
He was a carpenter with Spartan Construction Co. and a member of Piner Baptist Church.

Ruby R. Moran, 84, of Mays Lick, died Wednesday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville.
Her husband, Harold Moran, died in 1985.
A son, Roger "Tiny" Moran, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Patricia Poe of Maysville, Peggy Mitchell and Bonnie Moran, both of Mays Lick, and Linda McDonald of Carlisle; a son, Eddie Moran of Mays Lick; a sister, Estelle Whalen of Maysville; 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
