Helyn Mae Hehl, 79, volunteer

Helyn Mae Hehl did volunteer work for numerous organizations, including the Brighton Center, Youthaven Guild, the Girl Scouts and St. Luke Hospital.

"A friend said she had a lovely exterior, but an even lovelier interior. She had a good heart, " said Mrs. Hehl's husband of 58 years, former Campbell County District Court Judge Lambert Hehl Jr.

Mrs. Hehl, 79, of Fort Thomas, died Wednesday at her home.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Campbell County Democratic Women's Club and St. Catherine's Mothers Club.

"We had a wonderful life together, " said her husband. "She was an excellent mother and grandmother. She was my confidante and supporter. She had a lot of political acumen."

Hehl said his wife was vivacious and vibrant, with a quick wit.

"She always had a retort. Just when I thought I had the upper hand, she got the upper hand, " he said.

"Friends were always telling me what a classy person she was."

In recent years, Mrs. Hehl battled cancer. A year ago, doctors gave her just days to live, said her husband.

"She said, 'I don't accept that, ' and she went on to have a good year."

Other survivors include daughters, Barb Koehler of Fort Thomas and Susan Snyder of Charleston, S.C.; a brother, Bert Bathiany III of Fort Thomas; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Church in Fort Thomas.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home in Fort Thomas.

Burial will be in St. Stephen cemetery in Fort Thomas.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky Madonna House, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Chris Balmer, 68, of Covington, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Paul "Don" Cain, 74, of Florence, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a former assistant director of the Northern Kentucky Housing Authority, a member of the Sunday Morning Club and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Kirk Cain; a son, Rick Cain of Florence; a daughter, Terry Haggard of Florence; a brother, Jack Cain of Fort Mitchell; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Harvey "Joe" Cordray, 93, of Falmouth, died Thursday at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home, Cynthiana.

Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.

Ruth Alice Gabriel Cummins, 73, of Augusta, died Thursday at her home. She was a member of St. Augustine Church, Augusta. Her husband, George T. Cummins, and a daughter, Jenny Cummins, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, George Thoring Cummins of Beattyville; daughters, Melissa Blanscet of Houston, Megan Switzer of Lexington, Mary Beth Sheets of Frankfort and Molly Weed, both of Orlando; sisters, Edna Soete of Fort Mitchell and Bobbi Vonderschmidt of Estera, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Saturday at St. Augustine Church, Augusta. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Metcalfe-Hennessey Funeral Home, Augusta. Memorials are suggested to Knoedler Memorial Library, 315 Main St., Augusta, Ky. 41002.

Gerald D. Ellison, 66, of Atlanta, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Saturday in Atlanta.

Survivors include a son, John Ellison of Atlanta; his mother, Edith Doll of Latonia; a sister, Rita Hodke of Latonia; and brothers, Gilbert Godey of Fairfield, Ohio, and Richard Hodke of Copley, Ohio.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Daniel Lee Hermes, 72, of Covington, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

He was a retired machinist with the Cincinnati Enquirer, and a member of American Motorcycles Association and the Turners Club in Covington.

Survivors include a son, Randy Hermes of Independence; daughters, Deborah Haynes of Burlington and Penny Knollman of Hebron; a sister, Evelyn Link of Cincinnati; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services were this morning at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Burial was in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Homer B. Huffman, 25, of Walton, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.

Survivors include his father, Bill Huffman of Walton; sisters, Tina Stamper of Independence and Tracy Halpin of Morning View; a brother, Bill Huffman Jr. of Latonia; and grandfather, Carl Huffman of Dry Ridge.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.

Gerald Norton, 64, of Covington, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Dorothy Mae Rabe, 88, of Covington, died at 5:20 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. She was a retired waitress with McAlpin's Department Store and the Holiday Inn, Fort Mitchell, and a member of St. John Church, Covington, and the Knights of St. John Ladies Auxiliary. Her husband, Valentine J. Rabe, died in 1975. A daughter, Sharon L. Vickers, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Charles L. Rabe of Cincinnati; sisters, Virginia White of Villa Hills and Emma "Maggie" Mieman of Covington; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Care Center. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Memorials are suggested to St. Charles Care Center, 500 Farrell Drive, Covington, Ky. 41011.

Bobby W. Stamper, 54, of Florence, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a machine operator with Duro Bag Co., Florence, and a member of United Paper Workers.

Survivors include his wife, Julie "Judy" Stamper; sons, Charlie Points and Chris Points, both of Louisville; his mother, Dorothy Stamper of Florence; a brother, Eddie Stamper of Erlanger; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rice Cemetery, Union.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Eudell Williamson, 77, of Falmouth, died Wednesday at Augusta Health Care Center. She was a homemaker and a member of Oakland Christian Church, Falmouth.

Her husband, A.G. Williamson, died Feb. 16.

Survivors include a son, Alan Gary Williamson of Falmouth; brothers, Edwin Rose of Irvine and David Rose of Falmouth; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.

Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Pendleton County. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, 8899 Brookside Ave., Suite 102, West Chester, Ohio 45069.

Mildred Therese Wolnitzek, 82, of Laurel, Md., formerly of Cold Spring, died Tuesday at her home.

She was a homemaker. Her husband, Albert Leroy Wolnitzek, died in 1972. A son, Roy Albert Wolnitzek, died in 1993.

Survivors include sons, James Albert Wolnitzek of Virginia Beach, Va., Lawrence Albert Wolnitzek of Chesapeake Beach, Md., Stanley Albert Wolnitzek of Glen Burnie, Md., and Matthew Albert Wolnitzek of Pasadena, Calif.; daughters, Teresa Ann Swartout of Elderburg, Md., Patricia Ann Harris and Cindy Ann Stumpff, both of Laurel, Md.; brothers, Robert Brinkman of Fort Mitchell and Donald Brinkman of Fort Wright; 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, Md. 21401. Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.
