Elaine Baker, 78, 'lived life to fullest'
Elaine Patricia Baker enjoyed a little friendly competition.
She excelled in softball, bowled three perfect games in her lifetime and played poker and euchre any chance she got.
"An avid athlete, she excelled in many sports, including being on a select softball team, " said her sister, Jane Tretter of Lakeside Park.
Ms. Baker, 78, of Covington, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
Nicknamed "Poops" when her great-nephew couldn't pronounce "Pat, " Ms. Baker enjoyed spending time with aunts, nieces and cousins at a monthly luncheon at Mike Fink Restaurant in Covington. And at family picnics, it was always Ms. Baker who would start a round of card games.
"Poops lived life to the fullest, " her sister said.
She also liked spending time with her female friends, who she often gathered with to play poker or watch races at Turfway Park.
She was a retired cashier from Albers & Colonial Supermarkets, Latonia, and a member of Mother of God Church, Covington.
She is also survived by another sister, Billie Adams of Covington.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:05 p.m. Saturday at Mother of God Church, Covington. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to Amber Johnson Endowed Scholarship Fund, c/o Thomas More College, 333 Thomas More Parkway, Crestview Hills, Ky. 41017. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.
Mary L. Bailey, 72, of Covington, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a housewife. Her husband, George T. Bailey, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Dan Brown of Hebron; a daughter, Lora Bailey Brown of Hebron; a brother, Bernard Tiettmeyer of Cincinnati; a sister, Elnore Grazer of Fort Wright; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Don Catchen & Son Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.
Richard F. Birkenhauer Sr., 79, of Newport, died Thursday at his residence. He was a retired salesman and driver from Wiedemann Brewery, Newport. His wife, Mary Ann Leick Birkenhauer, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, Richard Birkenhauer Jr., and Donald Birkenhauer, both of Fort Thomas, and Thomas Birkenhauer of Cold Spring; daughters, Diane Baumann of Edgewood and Julie Rafferty of Newport; brothers, Murdock Birkenhauer and Herb Birkenhauer, both of Alexandria; sisters, Agnes Mader of Alexandria, Charlotte Volpenheim of Southgate, Choe Synol of Philadelphia, and Ester Scarp of Boca Raton, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Fort Thomas. No visitation is scheduled. Burial was in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Audrey Mae Blaker, 71, of Florence, died Monday at her residence. She was a retired cashier and waitress from White Horse and Sovereign Restaurants. She was a member of St. Paul Church, Florence, and St. Paul Church Bereavement Committee. Her husband, Richard H. Blaker, and a son, Richard J. Blaker, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Kenny Blaker of Oneida, Tenn., Tommy Blaker of Florence, and Tim Blaker of Burlington; a daughter, Terri Laake of Florence; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Church, Florence. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Charles H. Deason, 57, of Florence, died Monday at his residence. He was a salesman at Staples and an Army veteran. He was a member of the American Legion, AMVETs, and Irish Club.
Survivors include his wife, Marion Deason; a son, Stacy Deason of Crittenden; daughters, Shellie Perkins of Florence and Tammy Setters of Independence; brothers, Billy Joe Deason of Aurora, Ill., and Tim Deason of South Carolina; sisters, Glenda Baker of Montgomery, Ill., and Tracy Komes of Aurora, Ill., and 10 grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.
Marie Wells Eaton, 83, of Burlington, formerly of Corbin, died Saturday at Woodcrest Manor, Elsmere. She was a homemaker and a member of Bacon Creek Baptist Church.
Her husband, Lee Eaton, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Bob Eaton of Burlington; a daughter, Barbara Eilerman of Elsmere; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Hart Funeral Home, Corbin, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. Another visitation is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Corinth Cemetery, Corbin.
Odella Hill Garrison, 84, of Morgan, died Friday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana. Her husband, Luther Garrison, preceded her in death.
Survivors include nephews, David Hill and Donnie Moore; a great-nephew, Chad Hill; a great-niece, Kelli Hill; and special friends, Betsy Wilson and Christine Antrobus.

Loretta Ashcraft Gulick, 73, of Falmouth, died Sunday at her residence. She was the Pendleton County Circuit clerk for eight years, and a member of Falmouth Methodist Church, Democratic Women's Club, Eta Pi Kappa sorority and Pendleton County Homemakers.
Survivors include her husband, Bob Gulick of Falmouth; daughters, Missy Taylor and Linda Moore, both of Falmouth; a brother, Arthur Ashcraft of Jackson; sisters, Mary Hutchison of Florence, Juanita Wulfekamp of Mays Lick, and Dorothy Brunker of Falmouth; and two grandchildren.

Deborah "Debbie" Hoffman, 43, of Cincinnati, formerly of Covington, died Sunday at Hospice of Cincinnati, located at Mercy Franciscan Hospital, Cincinnati.

Anna M. Marshall, 81, of Latonia, died Saturday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia. She was a retired manager from Timely Dry Cleaners, Covington, and a member of St. Benedict Church, Covington. Her husband, Ray Marshall, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Daniel Dilts of Kenton Hills; daughters, Susan Sipple of Latonia and Jenifer Perrine of Crystal Lake, Ill., nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

George David Ridner, 45, of Edgewater, Fla., formerly of Bracken County, died Thursday at his residence.

Ruth N. Johnson Schonecker, 88, of Grapevine, Texas, formerly of Covington, died Sept. 26 at North Hills Hospital, Grapevine, Texas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Thomas E. Schonecker, and her daughter, Sandra J. Schonecker, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Thomas E. Schonecker of Covington; a sister, Helen J. Cameron of Grapevine, Texas; and three grandchildren.
