Donnie Smith, 25, a Special Olympics gold medalist, veteran
Donnie Smith was a Special Olympics gold medalist.
He helped his softball team win four state titles and also played basketball, soccer, golf and bowled.
"It built his self-esteem and helped make him a happy person, " said Mr. Smith's mother, Susan Smith of Florence. "He had a fun-loving personality."
Mr. Smith, 25, of Florence, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood of an aneurysm in his aorta because of a defective heart valve.
He was employed as a security guard and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Although Mr. Smith suffered from attention deficit disorder and a reading disorder, athletics enabled him to enjoy life, said his mother.
Mr. Smith was awarded a 2nd-Degree Black Belt in karate at Family Karate in Florence and was a national champion.
"He was a very giving young man, " said his mother. "If somebody needed help, he would help them out."
In addition to playing sports, Mr. Smith loved to dance.
"You name the dance, he could do it, " said his mother.
Other survivors include two sons, Evan Ludwig of Lawrenceburg, Ind., and Tommy Smith of Florence; two sisters, Deborah Handy of Florence and Lynette Seifert of Aurora, Colo.; and two brothers, Bill Smith of Elsmere and Joshua Smith of Florence.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Stith Funeral Home in Florence.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Camp Nelson National cemetery in Nicholasville.

Tony Carr, 43, of Florence, died at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a mill operator with Lafarge Co., Silver Grove, a member of Lakeside Christian Church in Lakeside Park and an Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy Carr; daughters, Betty J. Cox of Highland Heights, Allyson Christian of Silver Grove, Jennifer Christian of Florence, Tina Robinson of Covington and Melanie Robinson of Burlington; his father and stepmother, Charles and Brenda Carr of Erlanger; his mother and stepfather, Barbara and Frank Agricola of Elsmere; a brother, Andy Carr of Covington; a sister, Suzanne Parker of Erlanger; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Lewis Paul Cobb, 85, of Maysville, died Tuesday at his home.
He was owner of Paul Cobb Body and Radiator Shop, a member of Seddon United Methodist Church and the Maysville VFW post, and was an Army veteran of World War II. His first wife, Nellie Hord Cobb, died in 1993. His second wife, Geneva Landreth Cobb, died in 2002.
Survivors include a son, Billy Paul Cobb of Maysville; a daughter, Marinell Cobb Brown of Edgewood; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Knox and Brothers Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Maysville.
Earl A. Davis, of Burlington, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington.
Phyllis Jean Furnish, 76, of Florence, died at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday at Woodspoint Health Care Center, Florence.
She was a waitress with Pics Bar & Grill, Newport. Her husband, Raymond Furnish, died in 1984.
Survivors include a son, Ray Furnish of Florence; sisters, June Spears of Fairfield, Ohio, Joan Cantrill and Beverly Cantrill, both of Newport, Lillian Cantrill of Fort Thomas, and Lorene Thomas, Carol Kennedy, Pat Stuempel and Genie Rowland, all of Foster; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger.
Carlos Leon Greene Jr., 42, of Covington, died Friday at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Greene; daughters, Carla Williams of Florence and Angela Holowka of Debary, Fla.; sons, Mike Williams and Albert Reece, both of Newport; his mother, Elizabeth Greene of Covington; sisters, Michelle Greene of Covington and Lisa Barnes of Cincinnati; and four grandchildren.

Tonya M. Harney, 31, of Villa Hills, died Wednesday at her home.
She was a former employee of Cincinnati Bell Telephone and a member of Crossroads Community Church in Oakley, Ohio, and Telephone Pioneers.
Survivors include a daughter, Madelyn Harney, at home; her parents, Edward Thomas and Jacki O'Banion Harney of Villa Hills; a brother, Matthew Harney of Erlanger; a sister, Tracy Harney of Latonia; and grandparents, Jack O'Banion of Crescent Springs, and Dixie and Herschel Roach of Villa Hills.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Pat Hunter, 69, of Latonia, died Saturday at her home.
She was an employee of Frank's Nursery in Latonia and a member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia. Her husband, Arthur Hunter Jr., died in 1997.
Survivors include a son, Tim Hunter of Cincinnati; daughters, Candy Kaltenback of Covington and Debbie Lienhart of St. Charles, Mo.; a brother, James Nowak of Taylor Mill; sisters, Rita Brueggen of Taylor Mill; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Andrew M. Klein, 39, of Columbus, Ohio, died at 4:31 a.m. Saturday at Veterans Administration Hospital in Cincinnati.
He was a telecommunications sales representative and a member of Resurrection Church, Cincinnati, Eagles Aerie Fraternal Order of Eagles in Xenia, Ohio, and a Navy veteran of the Persian Gulf War.
Survivors include his parents, Frank "Fritz" M. and Jo Ann Temke Klein of Cincinnati; brothers, Jeff Klein of Cincinnati and David Klein of Hollywood, Fla.; and his fiancee, Lia Haines of Columbus.

William "David" Milner, 57, of Dry Ridge, died at 10:51 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a conductor with CSX Railroad, and a member of Brotherhood Relief of the Railroad and the Lima, Ohio, Moose Lodge, and was an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Lynn Snodgrass Milner; daughters, Mary Angela Milner of Falmouth and Jill Milner Quinn of Erlanger; a stepdaughter, Rachel Barkley of Dry Ridge; a stepson, Michael Caldwell of Falmouth; a sister, Kathy Viscosi of Maryville, Tenn.; and eight grandchildren.

Buddy Pendergrass, 77, of Latonia, died at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a member of Rosedale Baptist Church in Latonia and was a painter. He was a former employee of Robertson Steel and Iron in Batavia, Ohio, and was a Navy veteran of World War II. A son, Leroy Pendergrass, died in 1976.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Berry Miller Pendergrass; sons, Heath Pendergrass of Amelia, Ohio, and Clayton Pendergrass of Florence; daughters, Rita D'Angina of Amelia and Hope Lindsey of Cincinnati; a brother, Gary McGeorge of Palmer, Alaska; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Mary A. Robinson, 79, of Florence, died Saturday at her home.
She was a bookkeeper with Cooper Electronics and Cincinnati Bell Telephone, a member of Telephone Pioneers and St. Paul Church, Florence. Her husband, Everett A. Robinson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Beverly Behne and Janet Robinson, both of Florence; a brother, Dutton Aylor of Florence; sisters, Ruth Hagedorn of Florence and Margaret Kleier of Burlington; and three grandchildren.
