Mary Padgett, always spoke her mind
Mary Kathleen Padgett always said what was on her mind -- an act that often landed her in hot water.
Her husband Fred said her penchant for not mincing words was probably what ended her stint as an Edgewood City Council member after one term.
"Of course, she was Irish, " he said with a laugh. "She couldn't keep from expressing what she believed or what she thought."
Mrs. Padgett, 77, of Edgewood, died Monday at her home.
Her husband said she was a hard worker. She worked part-time at a bakery in Covington during the days while she finished her last two years of high school at night before World War II started.
Later on, she became a real estate agent, in which she enjoyed meeting people and touring homes.
The problem with this career, her husband said jokingly, was that she bought a lot of antique furniture from the estates she was selling.
"She wound up buying furniture we didn't need and a lot of other stuff, " he said.
Mrs. Padgett also was a loyal person, especially when it came to her grandchildren.
"None of them could do any wrong, " he said. "Whatever they wanted, if she could afford it, she could get it."
She also was a past president of Kenton County Young Republicans and a member of Northern Kentucky Association of Realtors, the Kentucky Association of Realtors and National Association of Realtors. A son, Timothy Padgett, preceded her in death.
