Linda Crane Lykins, active in politics, education
Linda Crane Lykins was active in Democratic politics and worked to improve education in Owen County.
"She was very bright and very determined, " said Mrs. Lykins' husband, Ben Lykins. "She was strong-willed. The people she touched, she influenced."
Mrs. Lykins, 61, of Owenton, died of cancer Wednesday at her home.
She was vice chairwoman of the Owen County Democratic Party and was a delegate to the 1988 Democratic National Convention in Atlanta.
Mrs. Lykins was former president of the Owen County PTA and Owen County Homemakers. She was a member of the Women's Club and belonged to Mount Zion Baptist Church.
She also was a retired state of Kentucky employee. In her last assignment, she worked in social services.
"She was a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat, " her husband said. "She grew up in a family that was not that well off, and she felt the Democratic Party was the working person's party."
Ben Lykins said his wife was "strong on education."
"She and two girlfriends decided to form a committee of three to watch over Owen County schools, " Mr. Lykins said. "They went to every school board meeting to make sure the school system was doing the best it could."
Mrs. Lykins enjoyed traveling and meeting people.
"She also was a bit of a daredevil, " her husband said. "She would do little things that would shock you a bit. One day, she decided to take a ride in an ultra-light airplane. Another day, she decided to go out on the water in a Wave Runner by herself."
Other survivors include a sister, Anne Trimble; a son, Chance Lykins, and a daughter, Deana Lykins.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at McDonald & New Funeral Home on Main Street in Owenton. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Bluegrass, 208 Steele St., Frankfort, Ky., 40601.
Robert Arthur Chisenhall, 47, of Verona, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit. He was a machinist for Ohmart-Vega Corp. in Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Miriam Sebree Chisenhall of Verona; his parents, Robert "Tarz" and Patricia Witte Chisenhall of West Covington; and four sisters, Julianne O'Connell, Jersey City, N.J.; Annette Furnier, Ludlow; Teresa Chisenhall, Covington; and Patricia Hamlin, Crittenden.
A Catholic Memorial Blessing will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. There is no visitation. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright, Ky. Memorials are suggested to St. Ann Church, 1274 Parkway Ave., West Covington, Ky. 41011.
Evelyn Joyce Goodin, 81, of Owenton, died Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Dayton A. Goodin of Owenton; four sons, Ronald S. Goodin Sr. and Phillip A. Goodin Sr., both of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and William Sizemore and Glen Turner, both of Gardnersville, Ky.; two daughters, Brenda Litchfield and Shirley Sweeden both of Cincinnati; a brother Luther Lankford of Owenton; a sister, Mandy Henson, of Covington; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at McDonald & New Funeral Home, Seminary Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Monterey Cemetery, Owenton.
William Pelfrey, 63 of Alexandria, died Wednesday at University Hospital in Cincinnati. Arrangements are pending at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia.
Betty Jean Richard, 73, of Newport, died Nov. 17 at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired sales clerk from Rink's in Newport and a member of St. Bernard Church, Dayton, the St. Bernard Church 55 Club, the Dayton VFW, and the Dayton Eagles. Her husband, Joseph Richard, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Richard of Covington; sisters, Janet Lehmkuhl and Muriel Dill, both of Fairfield, Ohio; Margaret Brown of Cincinnati; Marge Armbruster of New Richmond, Ohio; Rose Barker of Mason, Ohio; Joann Saenz and Monica Garza of Chicago, Ill.; and three grandchildren.
Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Bernard Church, Dayton. There is no visitation. Memorials are suggested to St. Bernard Church, 401 Berry St., Dayton, Ky. 41074.
Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue, is handling the arrangements.
Robert L. Thorne, 48, of Newport, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a clerk with B.P. Service Station. Survivors include two uncles and four aunts, all from Oakland, Md.
Services will be at noon Monday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Monday. Memorials are suggested to Robert L. Thorne Memorial Fund, 241 Fairfield Ave., Bellevue, Ky. 41073.
Barry Trapp, 47, of Grants Lick, died Wednesday. Arrangements are pending at Peoples Funeral Home, Grants Lick.
Dennis James Warren Jr., 25, of Latonia, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth North Hospice. He was a self-employed mover.
Survivors include his father Dennis Warren of Covington; his mother, Patricia Shepherd, of Dry Ridge; a brother, Justin Warren of Covington; two sisters, Tonya Dixon and Carrie Warren both of Covington; a paternal grandmother Marie Warren of Erlanger; and maternal grandparents, Ed and Louise Fultz of Latonia.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cooper's Funeral Home, Grants Lick.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Peach Grove Cemetery, Peach Grove.
