Kenneth Wayne, loved antique cars
Kenneth Wayne had a 1930 Model-T that he was proud of, but he didn't like showing it off at car shows.
A modest man, he rather enjoyed taking it for a cruise around his Covington neighborhood and letting local kids fawn over it.
"He would drive it around the neighborhood, " his wife, Edith Fay Waters Wayne, of Covington, said. "The kids all had fun with it."
Mr. Wayne, 74, of Covington, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
In addition to antique cars, he also enjoyed collecting guns and knives.
Mr. Wayne loved animals, and turned his love into a career. For 25 years, he owned German Shepherds that he had trained to do security work for Pinkerton Security Corp., of Cincinnati, where he was a captain of guards.
His wife said at one point he owned at least 15 dogs that he kenneled and leased to the security firm. She said he loved watching them on patrols.
Working for the St. Luke United Methodist Church in Covington, where his wife was a member, was also a passion. His wife said he helped raise money and take care of repairs.
And, for 62 years, he was a member of the Short Creek Baptist Church in Pendleton County.
"He kept his religion to himself, but he had a strong belief, " she said.
Mrs. Wayne described her husband of 49 years as a sincere, kind and honest man and a good husband.
"He just had a kind heart, you know?" she said.
He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, and member of VFW Post No. 6095, Latonia, and the Historical Society of Falmouth.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Fay Waters Wayne; and his mother, Lucille Dunn Wayne of Pendleton County.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Allison & Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, Erlanger. Freda Allen White Buerkley, 76, of Augusta, died Monday at Augusta Health Care Center. She was a retired tube tester and a member of cemetery Chapel Christian Church, Foster. Her husband, Joseph Earl Buerkley Sr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Joseph Earl Buerkley Jr., of Falmouth; daughters, Janice Sue Ignatovich of Falmouth and Emma Darlene Smithers of Augusta; a sister, Pearl Shelton of Germantown; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 8 p.m. today at Moore & Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. today. Burial will be in Brooksville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope, 909 Kenton Station Drive, Maysville, Ky. 41056.
Donald E. Deaton, 69, of Newport, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired revenue officer with the IRS, an Air Force veteran, and a member of the Newport Masonic Lodge No. 358 and the Scottish Rite Indra Consistory. His wife, Anna Deaton, preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughters, Pamela Tolle of Covington and Michelle Lynch of Anderson Township; brothers, Douglas Deaton of Southgate and Ronald Deaton of Fort Thomas; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday with a Masonic service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Doris L. Dreyer, 75, of Newport, died Saturday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. She was a retired sales clerk from Kmart. Her husband, Walter Dreyer, Sr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Walter Dreyer, Jr., of Tigard, Ore., Gary Dreyer of Cincinnati, Ricky Dreyer of California, Michael Dryer of Erlanger, and David Dryer of Amelia, Ohio; daughters, Betty Gabbard of Newport and Jeanie Littleton of Tigard, Ore.; brothers, Charles Padgett and Robert McGlone, both of Texas, and Donald McGlone of Cincinnati; sisters, Esther Brotherton of Loveland, Ohio, Lillian Allen of Indianapolis, Ind., and Betty Wright of Cincinnati; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Stanley Phillip Fisk, 72, of Lerona, W.Va., a Latonia native, died Sunday at his residence. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Princeton, W.Va.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Pennington Fisk; sons, David Keith Fisk of Churchville, Md., and Gregory Damon Fisk of Arnold, Md.; sisters, Rose Gronefeld of Cincinnati and Barbara Bamberger of Latonia; and two grandchildren.
Rite of Christian burial service will be at 7 p.m. today in the Burns Wornal Chapel at Memorial Funeral Directory, Princeton, W.Va., with visitation beginning at 5:30 p.m. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton, W.Va.
Elsie E. Green, 98, of Newport, died Sunday at her residence. She was a retired machine operator from Crossett's Wholesale Vegetable Co. Her husband, John C. Green, Sr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, John C. Green, Jr., of Dallas, Texas, Robert J. Green of Morrow, Ohio, and William A. Green of Florence; daughters, Gloria E. Green of Newport and Ruby F. Wiley of Erlanger; a sister, Viola Kidwell of Pendleton County; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, 254 Washington Ave., Bellevue, Ky. 41073.
George H. Kreutzjans, 66, of Fort Wright, died Sunday at his residence.

Gladys Elizabeth McKibben, 95, of Newport, died Saturday at Woodspoint Health Care Center, Florence. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include brothers, Robert McKibben of Fort Thomas and Chester McKibben of Fort Mitchell; a sister, Mable Ward of Hilton Head, S.C.; and a niece, Sharon McKibben of Bellevue.

Eva May Votruba Porter, two hours, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was the daughter of Donald and Emily Votruba Porter of Covington.
Other survivors include paternal grandparents, Robert and Roberta Porter of Alexandria; maternal grandparents, Dr. James and Rachel Votruba of Lakeside Park and Elizabeth Votruba of Lansing, Mich.; and paternal great-grandparents, Carl and Sylvia Porter of Edgewood, Josephine Little of Erlanger, and Donald and Roberta Smith of Cold Spring.

Kenneth Spradlin, 70, of Dayton, died Thursday at his residence. He was a retired painter from Paramount's Kings Island.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Maureen Jamison of the state of California; and a brother, Jack Spradlin of Cincinnati.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. There is no visitation.
Lonnie Joseph Stephens, 78, of Bellevue, died Saturday at his residence.
He was a retired truck driver from A.R. Nagel Heating and Piping, Cincinnati, and a World War II veteran. He was a member of Gertrude Chapter No. 19 O.E.S., Newport Masonic Lodge No. 358, and the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Covington. His son, Lonnie J. Stephens, II, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel Dean Stephens; daughters, Deborah Willis of California, Mabel Catherine Green of St. Petersburg, Fla., Betty Jo Turner of Butler, Theresa Garlet of Evansville, Ind., Anna Stephens of Newport, and Linda Martin of Cincinnati; a sister, Sarah Dunckley of Falmouth; 27 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Taylor Mill.

Russell Uhlman, 74, of Petersburg, died Friday at St. Elizabeth North Hospice, Covington.
He was a retired welder from Ford Motor Co., an Air Force veteran, and a member of Covington Masonic Lodge.
His wife, Catherine Anna Rider Uhlman, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Richard Uhlman of Petersburg; a daughter, Ruby Hammons of Burlington; sisters, Ruth Clark of Crestview, Ind., and Anna Adams of Baltimore, Md.; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Hebron Lutheran Cemetery.

Ira C. Venable, 81, of Alexandria, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a retired foreman and mechanic from Ford Motor Co. and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Etta Steinhauer Venable; daughters, Connie Venable Utz of Peach Grove and Carol Venable Ross of Alexandria; a brother, John C. Venable of Highland Heights; a sister, Betty Alcorn of Independence; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
