Donald Ashcraft, taxi driver
Donald G. Ashcraft of Florence was well-suited to his chosen profession of taxi driving.
With a friendly smile, he always welcomed a stranger into his cab.
He retired from the Skyline Cab Co.
"He was very friendly. He would just talk to anybody, really. He never met a stranger, " said his adopted daughter, JoAnn Hooper of Florence.
Mr. Ashcraft, 72, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital in Florence.
He was a member of St. Paul Church in Florence, and he served in the U.S. Air Force.
He also enjoyed going to flea markets, hunting for bargains.
Mr. Ashcraft never married, but he was a loving adoptive father and grandfather, Ms. Hooper said.
"Nobody could ask for a better person than he was. He was always helpful to anyone who asked. He's in my heart.
I was just a little squirt when I met him, " she said.
Mr. Ashcraft was born in Batesville, Ind., and moved to Florence in 1990.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Amata, earlier this year.
Survivors in addition to Ms. Hooper are two grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Floral Hill Cemetery.
Chambers & Grubbs in Florence is handling the arrangements.
Interment will be at Floral Hills Cemetery.
Jeffery McAlister, 41, of Dallas, died Tuesday at his home. He was an employee of the Dallas Morning News and a member of Melbourn Heights Baptist Church in Dallas.
Survivors include his parents, William R. and Betty Sue Ellis McAlister of Goshen; and a sister, Tracey Kacey.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.
William George Mistler, 65, of Roseville, Calif., formerly of Latonia, died Monday at his home. He was a retired food broker and a Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Amy-Anne Mistler; a son, Joey Daniel Mistler of Bellevue; a daughter, Laura Ann Wade of the state of California; sisters, Alice Richardson of Stillwater, Okla., and Laura Tegstam of Vevay, Switzerland; and a brother, Daniel Mistler of Edgewood.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials are suggested to Children's Home of Northern Kentucky, 200 Home Road, Covington, Ky. 41011; or the charity of the donor's choice.
Richard Mullaney, 74, of Cincinnati, died Tuesday at Drake Center, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Annette Martin Mullaney; a son, Richard J. Mullaney of Villa Hills; daughters, Karen A. Bowling of and Sharon Lee Mullaney; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthias Church, Cincinnati. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati. Ricky Lynn Oakes, 45, of Crittenden, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown. He was a mechanic with the Yellow Cab Co.
Survivors include his wife, Lena Burden Oakes; sons, Ricky Lee Oakes of Walton and Terry Wayne Oakes of Crittenden; daughters, Christy Lynn Biddle of Verona and Patricia Faye of Crittenden; brothers, David Oakes of Dry Ridge and Terry Oakes of Richmond, Va.; sisters, Lucille McIntyre of Walton and Shirley Arnold of Covington; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona.
Catherine D. Owen, 90, of Newport, formerly of Park Hills, died Wednesday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.
She was a homemaker, a member of St. Benedict church, Covington, and the Newport Elks Lodge.
Her husband, Eugene Owen, preceded her in death.
Surviving are sons, Gene Guy Owen of Fort Thomas and Gregory P. Owen of Hebron; a daughter, Terri Sparks of Hebron; a suster, Aleene Corley of Margate, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Friday at St. Benedict Church, Covington. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to St. Benedict Church, 338 E. 17th St., Covington 41014. Linnemann Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Bennie Perry, 86, of Wilmore, formerly of Corinth, died at 7:50 a.m. Tuesday at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center, Lexington. He was a retired farmer and production worker with Hydro Plastics, Georgetown, a member of the Georgetown VFW Post and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Edith Perry, died in 1976. There are no immediate survivors.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at McDaniel Funeral Home, Corinth. Visitation will begin there at noon. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery, Corinth.
Thomas Ward, 67, of Latonia, died Wednesday at his daughter's home in Independence.
Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
Mary Elva Washburn, 92, of Carrollton, died Tuesday at Bedford Health Care Center. She was a retired employee of Rich Ladder Co. and a member of English Baptist Church. Her husband, John S. Washburn, and a son, George W. Washburn, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, John R. Washburn of Ghent; daughters, Marlene Schirmer and Linda Stamper, both of Carrollton; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.
Dorothy Marie Snodgrass Weyer, 75, of Highland Heights, formerly of Bellevue, died Tuesday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.
She was owner of the Honey Comb Beauty Salon in Newport, a member of Holy Spirit Church in Newport and the 30th Infantry Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Weyer; nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Spirit Church, Newport. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue. Billie F. Jones Wimmers, 68, of Southgate, died at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday at her home. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Wimmers; daughters, Joyce Wimmers of Wilder and Janet Aviles of Alexandria; a son, John Wimmers of Southgate; a brother, James B. Jones of Cold Spring; and five grandchildren.
