Louise Ann Posgay, loved to cook, bake
When Louise Ann Posgay wasn't cooking at Newport High School or St. Frances deSales Church, she was cooking at home.
"We never went out to eat, we always had home-cooked meals, " said Mrs. Posgay's daughter, Frances Sims of Crescent Springs.
"Cooking was my mother's No. 1 thing. She won prizes for recipes in magazine contests. She absolutely loved to cook and bake."
Mrs. Posgay, 86, of Newport, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice.
After retiring as a cook at Newport High School, Mrs. Posgay was a cook at St. Frances deSales Church in Newport.
She was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing the piano. She was able to play the piano up until just a few weeks before her death.
While Mrs. Posgay was a professional cook, "she was a mother first and always, " said her daughter. "She didn't start working until all her children were in school. And when she worked at the school cafeteria, she had the same hours her children did and she was always there for them."
Christmas was Mrs. Posgay's favorite time of the year, when she baked even more cookies and rolls than usual. She enjoyed entertaining and hosting parties.
Mrs. Posgay was a "very religious woman, a very stout practicing Catholic, and raised her children to be conscientious Christians, " said her daughter.
"She had a good sense of humor, " said Mrs. Sims. "She was an outgoing person, but private on certain things. She was old fashioned in a lot of ways."
Mrs. Posgay was married
54 years to John Stephen Posgay, who died five years ago.
Other survivors include a sister, Trudy Knight of Wilder; a daughter, Anita Moorman of Crescent Springs; a son, Jack Posgay of Batavia, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, 835 York St., Newport, with prayers at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Therese church, 11 Temple Place, Southgate.
Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Taylor Mill.
Harold D. Bowen, 70, of Florence, died Tuesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Cincinnati.
He retired from Ann's Bait and Tackle in Charlotte, N.C., was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Florence and an Army veteran of the Korean War.
A daughter, Julie Webb, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Bowen; sons, Gary W. Bowen of Atlanta, Harold D. Bowen of Manassas, Va., and Terry W. Bowen of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers, Bobby Bowen and Eddie Bowen, both of Hampton, Va.; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bible Missionary Baptist Church, Kannapolis, N.C. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Salisbury, N.C., National Cemetery.
Sylvia Draper, 64, of Williamstown, died at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown.
Arrangements are pending at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.
Hildreth "Frenchie" French, 72, of Covington, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
He was a machinist with Equitable Bag Co. and a member of the Paperworkers International Union.
Survivors include his wife, Duane French; a son, Eric Stanley of Ludlow; daughters, Joanne Chambers of Latonia, Peggy Sue French of Elsmere, Peggy Spada of Ludlow and Barbara Spada of Burlington; sisters, Carrie Atkins and Mabel Baker, both of Maysville, and Liddie French of Grants Lick; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Friday.
Gary Francis Heinlein, 55, of Alexandria, died at 11:10 a.m. Monday in an automobile accident on I-275 in Boone County.
He was a salesman with Kidd Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep in Lawrenceburg, Ind., a member of the Northern Kentucky and Bluegrass saddle clubs and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include Valerie Parker Heinlein; daughters, Sarah Schneider of Cold Spring and Nikki Heinlein of Alexandria; a stepdaughter, Jamie Williamson of Independence; a stepson, Eric Hahn of Fairfield, Ohio; sisters, Connie Hammond of Verona and Kathy Dean of Dallas; and a granddaughter.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Church, Alexandria.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Martha Holliday, 77, of Bromley, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow.
Mary Ann Parton, 92, of Erlanger, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a secretary with the Diocese of Covington school board and a former clerk in the Kenton County clerk's office. She was a former member of St. Ann Church in Covington, a member of the Ludlow, West Covington and Tri-County senior citizens groups, and the Dixie Grandmothers Club. Her husband, Ralph Parton Sr., died in 1976.
Survivors include Ralph Parton Jr. of Florence, David Parton of Tampa, Fla., Jerry Parton of Villa Hills, Robert Parton of Williamstown and Patrick Parton of Erlanger; 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Velma E. Pittman, 88, of Erlanger, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a domestic worker.
Her husband, Anthony Bernell, died in 1944.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna D. Yeager of Erlanger; a sister, Virginia Workman of New Martinsville, W.Va.; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Anna Mae Thomes Placke, 86, of Fort Thomas, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home.
She was a homemaker and a member of Rosary Society of St. Thomas Church in Fort Thomas.
She was a member of Chapter No. 1380, St. Stephen Court, Catholic Order of Foresters.
Survivors include her husband, William A. Placke; daughters, Maribeth Placke Carskadon of Edgewood and Martha Anne Hill of Alexandria; a son, David Placke of Fort Thomas; a brother, Joseph Henry Thomes of Bellevue; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Church, Fort Thomas.

Louise F. Reinzan, 97, of Florence, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Church, Florence.
Her husband, Harry P. Reinzan, and a son, Walter "Bud" Reinzan, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Rose Qualantone of Pueblo West, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Church.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

William Henry Robinson, 35, of Florence, died Friday in Richland County, Ohio.
He was a truck driver with Swift Trucking Co. and a Navy veteran of the Gulf War.
A son, Cody Robinson, preceded him in death.
Survivors include sons, Zachary Robinson and Wyatt Robinson, both of Taylor Mill; his father, Dale Robinson of Dry Ridge; his mother and stepfather, Juanita and Robert Eshelman of Florence; a sister, Jennifer Robinson of Florence; brothers, Kevin Robinson of Florence and Fred Robinson of Burlington; and half-sisters, Becky Miller and Betsy Radford, both of Virginia.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Tony Taylor, 49, of Newport, died at 6:25 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was disabled.
Survivors include sisters, Jeanette Kilgore and Carletta Hensley, both of Dayton, Devonia McQueen of Lexington, Kim Rhoden of Ashland and Tonya Smith of California; brothers, Mike Taylor of Lexington and Lawrence Taylor of Newport.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at New Hope Christian Church, Newport.
