Mrs. Schroeder of Goose Lake Dies
Goose Lake. Dec. 18 - (special)- Mrs. Charles Schroeder, 70, died at 1 a.m. Sunday in her home, one miles east of here. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the home, the Rev. A. G. Langholz of Preston officiating. Burial will be in Center Grove cemetery. Augusta Husen was born Nov. 14, 1869, the daughter of the late Joseph and Dora Husen. She married
Charles Schroeder Feb. 18, 1891, who preceded her in death two years ago. Surviving are seven children, Joseph, Rudolph, Harry, Mrs. Hans Jurgensen, all of Goose Lake, Ernest and Carl of Clinton, and Mrs. Virtus Koch of Miles; 14 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Meta Stamp of Manning. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Mrs. Amelia Kuhl of Manning.
KUEHL, Frederick Herman
Fred Kuehl was born on January 6, 1897, near Big Rock, Clinton County, Iowa; the son of William and Emma Tebbe Kuehl. He died on September 20, 1988 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 91 years. As a young child, Fred along with his family moved to the Dow City, Iowa area where he spent most of his life. He attended a rural school in Paradise Township and enjoyed the life of farming until his retirement in 1964. He continued to live in the Dow City area until entering the Dunlap Care Center at Dunlap, Iowa five years ago. Fred was Baptized as an infant in the Lutheran Church. He was affiliated with the United Methodist Church in Dow City, Iowa. Fred's hobbies were fishing and wood carving. Preceding Fred in death were his parents and one sister, Anna Garrett. Survivors include a niece: Marcella and her husband Don Keiner of Dow City and a nephew; Donald Garrett and his wife Pat of Dow City.
KUEHL, William
Wm. Kuehl was born June 26, 1867, in Neustadt, Schleswig, Germany, and died Nov. 5, 1946, at the age of 79 years, 4 months and 10 days. He died in the Denison hospital where he had been taken following a stroke suffered Nov. 1. In early childhood he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. He came to America at the age of 15 years and lived with his brother, August at Big Rock, Iowa, where he worked until the time of his marriage to Emma Tebbe of Dixon, Feb. 26, 1896. They moved to Crawford county where they have spent the last 38 years on their farm in Paradise township. Mr. Kuehl leaves to mourn his death his wife, two children, Fred of Dow City and Mrs. Fred Garrett of Arion; two grandchildren, three brothers, August of Hodkins, Minn., John and Max of Davenport besides a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon: Nov. 7 at 2 o'clock at the Huebner funeral home with the Rev. G. M. Squires of the Charter Oak Methodist church officiating. Interment was made in the Dow City cemetery. Pallbearers were Emil Larson, Ed Seils, John Boettger, Henry Schlie, Wm. Vogt, and Leolan Garrett.
KUHL, Katherina
Funeral Service for Mrs. H. Hagge to be held today
Mrs. Hans Hagge well known pioneer resident of this city passed away on Sunday night at the home of her son, William Hagge, following an illness of some duration. At the time of her death, Mrs. Hagge was about 78 years of age. She suffered a stroke of apoplexy a few days prior to her death, and since that time gradually failed until her passing on Sunday night. Catherine Kuhl, a native of Germany, was born in Dunstine, Germany, January 20, 1850. She was married
to Hans Hagge in 1874 and they lived on their farm north of Ogden until 1909 when they retired. Her husband preceded her in death in 1921. Several children, all of whom are grown, survive her passing, together with numerous other relatives and a large circle of friends. The children are Henry, John and William Hagge of near Ogden. Hans Hagge of Colorado Springs, Colo., and three daughters, Mrs. Louis Hasstedt of Ogden, Mrs. Fred Grabau of Boone, and Mrs. Gus Neumann of Denison, Iowa. The funeral will be held at the Zion Lutheran church, Wednesday, November 27, 1929 with the Rev. A.J. Boehm officiating.
KUSEL, Melvin Dean
Melvin Dean Kusel, son of August and Ida (Grau) Kusel, was born November 3, 1923, near Manning in Carroll County, Iowa. He attended rural school near his home and graduated from Manning High School in 1943. He was baptized into the Christian faith, and in May 1955 became a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, through the Rite of Confirmation.
Melvin was united in marriage with Marjorie Kuhn on December 11, 1943, at Carroll. To this union a son and a daughter were born.
Melvin was a farmer. He began farming the Parker land one mile north of Manning in 1948, and for the past 54 years "Parker's corner" has been the Kusel home. For many years Melvin worked together with his brother Amos. They farmed adjacent land, raised cattle and provided custom combining service that involved their sons. Melvin and his son Alan also engaged in a trucking operation for 20 years. Melvin retired from active farming in 1988, but continued to live on the farm helping his grandson Rick with the land. He enjoyed a part-time position at Veterinary Associates that kept him connected with farming. He also enjoyed tinkering with machinery, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Because of failing health, Melvin became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in August of 2002. There he gained many new friends before he died of cancer on Thursday, November 21, 2002, at the age of 79 years and 19 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Amos; half-sisters Eunice Ahrendsen and Elsie Schroeder; and half-brother Herman Kusel.
Melvin is survived by his wife Marjorie Kusel of Manning; son Alan Kusel and wife Pam of Manning; daughter Karla Richmond and husband Dan of Cedar Rapids; grandson Richard (Rick) Kusel, who they raised, and his wife Susan of Akron, CO; two granddaughters Amy Jo Benton and husband Brad of Carroll, and Beth Ann Vitiritto and husband Brad of Des Moines; grandson Phil Richmond and wife Patti of Cedar Rapids; and five great-grandchildren: Joshua, Jason, and Joselyn Kusel, Luke Richmond and Miranda Jo Benton. Also surviving is sister-in-law Dorothy Kusel of Manning; and in-laws Ruth Metcalf and husband Bill of Midland, MI; John Weible of Omaha, NE; Orrin Kuhn and wife Kay of West Union; and Delores Kuhn of Manning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Friedrichsen, 73, were held Wednesday afternoon June 8 at Trininty Lutheran Church, Lincoln township, with the Rev. Wm. Kanning officiating. Burial was at Manning with Fred P. Hansen, Fred Rudnick, LeRoy Musfeldt, Alfred David, Ben Welch and Peter Moeller acting as pallbearers.
Rosa Friedrichsen, daughter of Christian and Wilhelmina Kusel was born April 10, 1876 in Crawford County. She was united in marriage with Henry Friedrichsen Nov. 16, 1895 at Yankton, S. D. For the first six years of their married
life they lived in Knox County, Nebraska, coming then to LeRoy township, Audubon County. Since 1919 the family resided in Lincoln township.
On Nov. 28, 1914 both she and her husband were received into membership of Trinity Lutheran Church by baptism, just four days before their children, Herman, Clara, William and Helena, were confirmed. After the death of her husband in September 1933, she continued to make her home with her children, Flora and Emil.
Mrs. Friedrichsen was stricken with heart failure Saturday evening, her age at death being 73 years, 1 month and 24 days.
She is suvivied by the following children: Flora and Emil at home, Herman of Audubon, Mrs. Fred Wiese (Clara) of Casey, William of Watertown, S.D., Mrs. Emil David (Lena) of Audubon; Mrs. Roy Borkowski (Julia) of Jefferson, and Edward of Bakersfield, Calif.
She also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Mathilda Wulf of White Lake, S. D., Mrs. Lena Carson of Vale, S.D., Mrs. Anna Martens of Newwll, S.D., and Mrs. Edith Adams of Yankton, S.D., as well as 29 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
All the children were present at the funeral and all sisters with the exception of Edith Adams. Others attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Friedrichsen of Lohalton, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. Herman Luellman, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Lamprecht, jr., Mrs. Wm. Lamprecht, sr.; Harvy Adams, Mrs. Ed Brunken, Pearl Kusel, Clara Busch, all of Bloomfield, Neb., and Mr. and Mrs. George Meyers of Crofton, Neb.

LORENZEN, Christine W.

Funeral Services for Christine W. Lorenzen Ranniger Tesch were held Saturday, May 29, 1993 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa. Pastor Robert Riggert officiated the service with Fern Jensen as organist.
Interment was held in Manning City Cemetery, Manning, Iowa with Russel Ranniger, William Ranniger, Dale Jansen, Gaylin Ranniger, Gaylord Moeller and Randall Jansen as casketbearers.
Christine, one of ten children of Lorenz and Cathrine Claussen Lorenzen, was born July 21, 1893 near Irwin, in Shelby County, Iowa. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith on September 2, 1894 at Manilla. Christine attended rural schools through the 8th grade and she kept house for her father after her mother's death in a buggy accident.
Christine was united in marriage with Louis Ranniger on January 7, 1914 at Denison. Four children were born to this union. They farmed north of Aspinwall and Christine wsa a homemaker. Upon their retirement in March of 1946 they moved into Manning. Christine was confirmed in 1952 by Pastor Ansorge in Manning. Louise died on April 5, 1961.
In 1964 Christine was united in marriage with Otto Tesch. They continued to live in Manning. After Otto's death in 1974 Christine remained in her home.
Christine was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and-its Dorcas Society. Throughout her life she did a lot traveling and in her spare time she enjoyed playing cards and crocheting.
In June of 1989 Christine entered the Manning Plaza where she died on Wednesday, May 26, 1993 at the age of 99 years, 10 months, and 5 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; the following brothers and sisters: Annie Ehrichs, Lena Thomsen, Tom Lorenzen, Hannah Boyens, Willie Lorenzen, John Lorenzen, Edward Lorenzen, and Amanda Steen; and a daughter-in-law, Viola Ranniger.
Survivors include her children: Wilmer Ranniger and his wife, Vila, of Manning; Irene and her husband, Harry Jansen, of Manning; Eunice and her husband, Ray Friedrichsen, of Denison; and Wayne Ranniger, of Manning; 16 grandchildren, 32 greatgrandchildren; and four greatgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Emma Ranniger, of Manning; three step-children, Edna Schoppe, Elda Tesch, and Clarence Tesch, all of Beaverdam, Wisconsin; four step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Died at a Ripe Old Age
Lorenz B. Lorenzen father of A.B. Lorenzen of Denison died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Boyens of Hanover Township last Saturday evening at 8 o'clock aged nearly 74. The funeral took place on Tuesday at the home. Rev. Runge of German Lutheran Church officiating, the remains interred in the Nissen cemetery near the home.
Mr. Lorenzen was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, April 20, 1830. He was married
in Germany to Amelia Christina Godberson in 1852. They came to America in 1878, settling at Clinton where they lived for 3 years, and then came to Crawford County taking up their home in Hanover Township, where they lived until their death.
Mr. Lorenzen leaves 3 children, A.B. of Denison, Mrs. Adeline Petersen and Mrs. Anna Boyens of Hanover Township. He lived a good industrious helpful life, meeting all the obligations in his path and sturdily making his way in an honorable and upright manner. He leaves many friends to regret his death, even though it came at the fullness of his many years.

The funeral service for Harold W. Luetjens of Albert Lea was held at 1:00 PM, Monday, December 9 at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. The Rev. Don Rose officiated. Interment was in Memorial Park cemetery in Mason City, Iowa. Visitation was held at 11:30 AM on Monday. Military honors were accorded.
Harold died Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Center where he has resided since November 30, 1994. He was 77 years old.
Harold was born July 4, 1925, at Denison, Iowa to Henry L. and Bertha M. (Noelck) Luetjens. He grew up at Denison and graduated from Denison High School in 1943. Harold then entered into the United States Navy and was assigned for a time to the CB's 112th Division and discharged on December 20, 1945. In 1946, Harold married
Margaret Louise. He then continued with the Naval Reserves until his discharge in May 1952. Harold married
Mary Furnish on October 7, 1967. Harold was a member of First Lutheran Church. He was the manager for Safeway Super Markets for 16 years in Maryville, Missouri; Fort Dodge, Iowa; and Mason City, Iowa. Harold worked for Wilson and Company and Farmstead Food for 24 years until his retirement in 1988. He belonged to the American Legion. Harold enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and doing yard work. Harold enjoyed watching the Vikings and football in general.
Harold is survived by his wife, Mary Luetjens of Albert Lea; children: James R. Luetjens of Rockford, Minnesota, Sandi K. Belcher and her husband Bryan of Des Moines, Iowa, William R. Furnish and his wife Maggie of Kansas City, Missouri, and Virginia Sullivan and her husband Kevin of Dunnellen, Florida; grandchildren: Peggy Hargreaves and her husband J. T., James W. Luetjens, Patrick Nehls, April Darling, Ryan Nehls, Ashley Nehls, Allison and Brandon Hargreaves, Robert William Furnish, and Beth Furnish; great grandchildren: Meckensie, Ethan, Madison, Kirkland, and Tanner; sister: LaDonna Lapel of Denison, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Dixie Krause of Alden, Iowa, and Theresa Scheef of St. Louis, Missouri; and nieces and nephews: Steen Krause, Danny Scheef, and Michael and Megan Kline.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Margaret Louise.
