Anjanette Messer, faithfully devoted to church, family
Anjanette Kaye Messer had a wide variety of interests and activities: piano-playing, genealogy, knitting, antique furniture and decorating.
She also was devoted to church and family.
"She always had a sort of 'go do it' personality, " said Mrs. Messer's son, Dallas Franklin Messer Jr., of Chatsworth, Ga.
Mrs. Messer, 63, of Walton, died of cancer Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Messer was a member of Family Tabernacle Church of God in Glencoe and the church women's auxiliary. She was a Sunday school teacher.
"She liked to play the piano, " said her son. "She played at home and mostly played church music. She liked to knit, and she loved to decorate for the holidays. She always liked to dress everything up.
"Church was extremely important to her. She liked to help a small church grow in attendance."
Mrs. Messer was especially family-oriented, said her son.
"She was very interested in the lives of her children and grandchildren and enjoyed finding out more about her ancestors, " he said. "She liked researching the family tree."
Other survivors include her husband, Dallas Messer Sr.; sons, Andrew James Messer and Jeremy E.D. Messer, both of Walton; her mother, Pauline Barnett of Walton; a brother, Luther F. Barnett Jr. of Boone County; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Hope Church of God in Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home in Florence. Burial will be in Gardnersville Cemetery.

Norma Laverne Boyers, 70, of Walton, died Saturday at her home. She was a retired receiving clerk with Levi Strauss Co., a member of First Baptist Church of Walton and a Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Boyers Jr.; a son, Donnie Boyers of Morning View; daughters, Debbie Gaines and Vickie Benton, both of Walton; a brother, Kenneth Jenkins of Butler; sisters, Doris Lovelace of Falmouth, Ardella Osborne of Florence and Martha Wafford of Butler; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Walton. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Turner Ridge Cemetery, Falmouth. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, 47 S. Main St., Walton, Ky. 41094.
George W. Buckner, 86, of Butler, died Jan. 11 at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

Donald E. "Doc" Eggleston, 65, of Hebron, died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at his brother's home in Glencoe. He was the former owner of Eggleston Brothers Garage in Hebron.
Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda Robinson of Glencoe; sons, Shane Eggleston of Berry and Keith Eggleston of Howell, Mich.; his mother, Elizabeth Wilson Eggleston of Florence; brothers, Jimmy Eggleston of Bracken County, Wayne Eggleston of Newport, Tenn., George Eggleston of Glencoe and Billy Eggleston of Amelia, Ohio; a sister, Bessie Vines of Florence; and nine grandchildren.

William Otto Gruner, 63, of Fort Thomas, died at 3:45 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired lithographer with Cincinnati Printing Co. and a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Thomas.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Whitey Gruner; a daughter, Amanda Vinson of Barbourville, W.Va.; a son, Raymond Gruner of Fort Wright; his mother, Josephine Glass Gruner of Lexington; a sister, Carol Weddle of Campbellsville; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Earlin "Tom" Jones, 85, of Glencoe, died at 1:50 p.m. Saturday at New Horizons Medical Center, Owenton. He was a former labeler with Gibson Wine Co., Covington, a former groundskeeper with Highland cemetery in Fort Mitchell and a farmer, and was a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church, Glencoe. His wife, Agnes Beach Jones, died in 1980.
Survivors include sons, Harlan T. Jones of Glencoe and Roger Jones of Crittenden; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Margaret "Peggy" Ellis Kinney, 90, of Edgewood, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker, a former teacher and past president of the Kenton County PTA District. She was also president of the Dixie High School PTA.
Survivors include her husband, W. Shelby Kinney; sons, Van Kinney of Park Hills and Ellis Kinney of Louisville; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Beginning Presbyterian Church, Erlanger. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Mentor. Charles "Jeep" Leppert, 80, of Covington, died at 4:30 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a retired machinist with Dover Corp., Cincinnati, and a member of St. John Church, Covington. His wife, Catherine Volkman Leppert, died in 1994. A son, Clarence Leppert, died in 1988.
Survivors include sons, Kenneth Leppert of Covington and Charles Leppert of Florence; a daughter, Carol Hudson of Walton; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mary F. Loy, 70, of Newport, died at 3:45 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a retired server with White Castle restaurants.
Survivors include daughters, Katie Williams of Dry Ridge, Carol Ward of Cincinnati and Missy Davidson of Newport; sons, Will Loy of Tennessee and James Loy of Batavia, Ohio; a sister, Clara McClain of Louisville; a brother, Huell Johnson of Tennessee; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

E. Ruth Wilson Roy, 79, of Dry Ridge, died at 5:44 p.m. Friday at her home. She was a former employee of Bendix Corp., Cincinnati, and National Distilleries in Cincinnati, and a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, Liberty. Her husband, V. Ray Roy, and a son, David Roy, both died in 1982.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Jane Benedict of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Raymond J. Scharf, 80, of Cold Spring, died at 9:10 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired shipping clerk with Hudepohl Brewery, Cincinnati, a member of St. Joseph Seniors at St. Joseph Church in Cold Spring and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Stadtmiller Scharf; sons, Jerry Scharf and Michael Scharf, both of Alexandria, and Donald Scharf of Fort Thomas; daughters, Janet Scharf and Mary Ellen Daniels, both of Cold Spring; a sister, Shirley Munch of Cincinnati; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Beatrice Moore Scott, 74, of Sparta, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a bank teller, a former city council member and a member of Warsaw Baptist Church and the Warsaw Woman's Club. Her husband, Oatney E. Scott, preceded her in death.
Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Lois A. Simpson, 70, of Cynthiana, died Saturday at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington. She was a former employee of the University of Kentucky Faculty Club, Food Lion and Ammerman Plumbing Co. Her husband, William K. Simpson Jr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, James K. Simpson of Harrison County and Wayne Simpson of Jackson; a daughter, Jayne L. Bell of Harrison County; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Virgil C. Stewart Sr., 71, of Covington, died Friday at Veterans Administration Hospital, Cincinnati.

Anna Mae Strause, 72, of Independence, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a former factory worker with Levi Strauss. Her husband, Wilbur Lee Strause, and a son, Randall Ray Strause, both preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Danny Strause of Independence, Michael Strause of Covington and William Strause of Killeen, Texas; brother, William Northcutt of Garden City, Mich., Eugene Northcutt of Greenfield, Ind., and Jerry Northcutt of Crittenden; a sister, Charlotte Morphew of Burlington; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Clarence VanHook, 86, of Crittenden, died at 1:13 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown. He was a retired laborer. His wife, Vida VanHook, died in 2003.
Survivors include stepsons, Herschel Rainwater and Robert Rainwater, both of Cincinnati, and a stepdaughter, Dorothy West of Tupelo, Miss.
