Sister Alma Kraemer, educator for 59 years

Sister Alma Marie Kraemer loved children and teaching so much that she spent 59 years as an educator.

"She never retired; she was still teaching last month. She loved the children, especially the little children, " said Sister Kraemer's sister, Sister Margaret Anne Kraemer.

Sister Alma Marie Kraemer, 77, a member of the Congregation of Divine Providence at St. Anne Convent in Melbourne, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

She was an elementary school principal for 24 years and an elementary school teacher for 35 years.

She was a principal for three years at Corpus Christi School in Newport and also was a principal at schools in Paintsville and Cumberland.

She taught five years at St. Vincent School in Newport, one year at St. Cecilia School in Independence and also taught at schools in Lynch, Middlesboro and Corbin.

"She spent most of her educational career in the mountains of eastern and southern Kentucky, " said her sister. "She loved the mountains.

"She was a very cheerful person and rather quiet. She kept on teaching because she really loved it."

Other survivors include nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at St. Anne Convent in Melbourne.

Visitation will begin at the convent at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a wake service at 3:15 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the Congregation of Divine Providence, 1000 St. Anne Drive, Melbourne, Ky. 41059.

Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.

Charles W. Armitage, 74, of Florence, died Sunday at Florence Park Care Center. He was a retired naval officer and Korean War veteran. His wife, Naka Kawaji Armitage, died in 1978.

Survivors include daughters, Linda Armitage of San Francisco and Kim Richmond of Florence; sons, Kenneth Armitage of Boston, Charles Armitage Jr. of Florence and Jimmy Armitage of Fort Wright; a brother, Gerald Armitage of Millington, Tenn.; a sister, Janet Alsip of Las Vegas; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Cremation will be at the funeral home.

Edna Cox, 81, of Erlanger, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Anita Davey of Burlington; a son, Dwayne Cox of Norwood, Ohio; sisters, Adaline Taylor of Butler, Lorraine Witt of Latonia and Margaret Adkins of Taylor Mill; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Parish Kitchen, 141 Pike St., Covington, Ky. 41011.

Ruie Johnson Cummins, 82, of Falmouth, died Friday at her home. She was a farmer and a member of Oakland Christian Church. Her husband, H. Albert "Hack" Cummins, died in 1993.

Survivors include daughters, Kaye Johnting of Falmouth, Kathy Aulick of Cynthiana; a son, Larry Cummins of Falmouth; a brother, Stanley Johnson of Falmouth; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will begin there at noon. Burial will be in Neave Methodist Cemetery, Bracken County. Memorials are suggested to Oakland Christian Church Building Fund, 5161 Milford Road, Falmouth, Ky. 41040.

Bernadette Deavy, 91, of Fort Thomas, died at 3:03 a.m. Friday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Therese Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella. Her husband, Bernard Patrick Deavy, and a son, John Deavy, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Michael P. Deavy of Independence; daughters, Mary Ann Broering of Fort Thomas and Elaine Fite of Cold Spring; sisters, Irma Gausepohl of Fort Wright and Thelma Lear of Fort Thomas; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to St. Therese Church, 11 Temple Place, Southgate, Ky. 41071; or Alois Alzheimer's Center, 70 Damon Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45218.

Norma C. Dilley, 81, of Park Hills, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a retired secretary with the University of Cincinnati and a member of St. Elizabeth Medical Center Auxiliary. Her husband, Lloyd Dilley, died in 2001.

Survivors include sons, Charles Dilley of Erlanger and Steven Dilley of Park Hills.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.

Frank M. Dixon, 67, of Florence, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired conductor with CSX Railroad and a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 1315.

Survivors include a son, Mike Dixon of Florence; daughters, Debbie Dixon Klawonn of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Tracey Dixon Leach of Winchester; a brother, David F. Dixon of Florence; and six grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at Hopeful Lutheran Church, Florence. Burial will be in Hopeful Lutheran Church Cemetery, Florence. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.

Karen Lynn Doolin, 56, of Union, died Thursday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a cafeteria worker at Ryle High School, Union. Her husband, Glenn Andrew Doolin, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Jarrod Doolin and John Doolin, both of Union; a daughter, Julie Doolin of Union; her mother, Sarah Kloeker of Union; brothers, Mark Kloeker, Dennis Kloeker, Michael Kloeker and Gary Kloeker, all of Union, and Dan Kloeker and Ted Kloeker, both of Walton; sisters, Laura McMurrer of St. Augustine, Fla., Pati Gilliece of Ludlow, and Marsha Waters and Linda Creech, both of Union; and two grandchildren.

Vincent G. Dryer, 35, of Covington, died Thursday at his home. He was a member of Faith Assembly Church of God, Covington.

Survivors include his parents, Audrey Dryer of Covington; brothers, Clinton W. Dryer of Fort Wright, Christopher L. Dryer of Covington and James A. Dryer of Latonia; and a sister, Audra M. Dryer of Ludlow.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Northern Kentucky Mortuary Service. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Cora A. Fowee, 80, of Edgewood, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Charles Fowee, died in 1999. Two sons and a daughter also preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Carol Schaefer of San Diego, Mary Fowee of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Sharon Schoenthaler of Highland Heights; sons, Charles Fowee of Florence, John Fowee of Boynton Beach, Fla., Daniel Fowee of Loveland, Ohio, Tommy Fowee of Edgewood, Joseph Fowee of Taylor Mill, Gregory Fowee of California and Scott Fowee of Sparta; a brother, Donald Campbell of Michigan; sisters, Elizabeth O'Hara of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Shirley Strull of Cincinnati; 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Wednesday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Sweedy Martha Hensley, 86, of Newport, died Saturday at Lakeside Heights Nursing Home, Highland Heights. She was a retired factory worker. Her husband, Freedis Hensley, died in 1994.

Survivors include brothers, Lester Herald of Lawrenceburg, Daniel Herald of Lexington and Lee Herald of Butler; and sisters, Ollie Storey of Lexington and Helen Friedman of Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Helen Gunning Mitts, 93, of Bellevue, died Saturday at Lakeside Heights Nursing Home, Highland Heights. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Earl Mitts, preceded her in death. A son, Edward Mitts, died in 2001. A daughter, Nori Mitts Huff, died in 2002.

Survivors include a son, Earl "Sonny" Mitts of Newport; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.

Ethel Bothman Porter, 55, of Maysville, died at 2:55 a.m. Saturday at University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Medical Center, Lexington. She was co-owner of Town and Country Truck Repair and C.P. Express Inc., an employee of Goodyear Tire Center and a realtor with Cecil Beckett Realtors. She was a member of Church of God, Hillsboro, Ohio.

Survivors include her husband, Carl E. Porter; a son, Carl E. Porter Jr. of Long Island, N.Y.; a daughter, Christina Nicole "Nikki" Branham of Versailles; brothers, Earl Ray Bothman Jr. and Troy Bothman, both of Maysville; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. today. Entombment will be in Maysville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Curtis William Prather, 74, of Owenton, died Friday at New Horizons Medical Center, Owenton. He was a farmer and a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Lee Raisor Prather; sons, Jerry W. Prather and Curtis D. Prather, both of Owenton, and Teddy W. Prather of Carrollton; daughters, Diane Clifton of Glencoe, Penny Hemmingway of Owenton, Wand F. Prather of Kenton County, Mary Chandler and Janet L. Maddox, both of Henry County; brothers, Herbert Prather, Paul Prather, Raymond Prather and Danny Prather, all of Owen County; sisters, Betty Jean Davis of Jonesville and Louise Brown of Middletown, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at McDonald and New Funeral Home, Main Street location, Owenton. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Owenton. Memorials are suggested in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 474, Owenton, Ky. 40359.

Jessie A. Puckett, 82, of Covington, died at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker. A son, Sonney Howard, died in 2001.

Survivors include her husband, Orville C. Puckett; sons, Donald Puckett of Southgate and Ronald Puckett of Latonia; a daughter, Ruth Fallon of Florence; sisters, Gloria Blanton of Hagerhill, Sybil Leonard of Tipp City, Ohio, Goldie Williams of Newport News, Va., Carol McKisic of Buckhannon, W.Va., and Brenda Jones of Bellevue; seven grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Gertrude Erma Evans Sexton, 72, of Florence, died Friday at Florence Park Care Center. She was a former assembly line worker with Kenner and Hasbro Toys and a member of Community Pentecostal Church, Independence. Her husband, Kenneth Sexton, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, James Brewster of Independence, Robert Brewster of Burlington and Kenneth Sexton of Portsmouth, Ohio; a brother, Fred Evans of Lansing, Tenn.; sisters, Hazel Crouch and Margaret Brown, both of Burrville, Tenn., Lula Hill of New Carlisle, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 tonight at Community Pentecostal Church, Independence. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to Community Christian Academy, 11875 Taylor Mill Road, Independence, Ky. 41051. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence, is handling arrangements.

Deven Ivan Thornberry, 7 days, the son of Cecily Thornberry and Ivan Smith of Independence, died at 5:15 p.m. Friday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.

Other survivors include grandparents, Robert and Becky Struve of Independence; and great-grandparents, Ruth Thornberry and Martin Jeffers, both of Covington, Elmer Thornberry of Harrison, Ind., and Peggy Ward, Steve Struve and Nadine Struve, all of Florence.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.

Eileen M. Zumbiel Williams, 82, of Erlanger, died Sunday at Woodcrest Manor, Elsmere. She was a secretary with the federal government, a member of St. Henry Church in Elsmere and Northern Kentucky Rose Society, and a Navy and Coast Guard veteran of World War II. A daughter, Cassie Williams, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Karla Gieske of Florence; a son, Ken Williams of Elsmere; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Henry Church. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested in the form of Masses.
