Ronald Seiter passed on 'great sense of humor'
Ronald C. Seiter was a devoted family man who loved woodworking and Newport Catholic High School sports.
Mr. Seiter died Sunday at his home in Southgate. He was 60.
Born in Cincinnati, he grew up in Newport and attended Newport Catholic High School -- now Newport Central Catholic High School.
He spent 40 years as an offset printer, finishing his career at Beacon Printing in Newport, where he worked on commercial stationary items such as letterheads and business cards.
Of his character traits, his family best remembers his humor.
"He was very funny. He always had a joke, " said daughter Rhonda Schulte of Fort Thomas.
"He could always see the lighter side of things, " said another daughter, Beth Seiter, of Lexington. "We all have a really great sense of humor, and we know we got that from him."
He spent much time on his primary hobby, carving ornaments, animals, crosses and other trinkets for his family in his basement shop.
"We have a lot of wonderful crafts, " said his wife, Patricia Seiter.
One of his more memorable projects, she said, was the cradle he made for his three grandchildren.
Mr. Seiter also loved sports. He helped raise money at St. Therese School in Southgate for the athletic club while his three daughters attended there and helped coach the girls' basketball team. "He'd be at all our games, " Beth Seiter said.
Even after his daughters graduated, he continued to attend Newport Catholic football games.
He also enjoyed fishing and boating. Son-in-law John Shulte, 35, of Fort Thomas, spent a lot of time on the Ohio River with Mr. Seiter. "He would always be on the river for the fireworks, " Shulte said.
The son of German immigrants, Mr. Seiter also maintained an interest in World War II and the Holocaust.
