George Jaeger, a man of family, great faith
George Elwood Jaeger saw to it that his wife and three children were able to earn post-graduate degrees.
His daughter, Marsha Jaeger, has a doctorate in music and teaches at the University of California at Berkeley. A second daughter, Peggy McDannold of California, Ky., is an internal specialist at Patient First in Bellevue. His son, John Jaeger, is a dentist in New Castle, Ky.
And Mr. Jaeger's wife of 57 years, Betty, went back to school, earned a master's degree in elementary education and taught for 29 years at White's Tower School in Taylor Mill.
Mr. Jaeger, of California, Ky., died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital in Ft. Thomas. He was 80.
Mrs. Jaeger described her husband as "a man of great faith." He was an elder at Butler Christian Church and, for many years before that, an elder at First Christian Church in Covington.
He also was a former chairman and board member for the Christian Church Homes of Kentucky, which provides homes for seniors and children.
He met his wife when they were students at Simon Kenton High School. She was an eighth grader when he was a senior, but she said he wasn't that much older.
"It was just that he'd skipped a grade, " Mrs. Jaeger said.
In his later years, he took up woodworking, finishing a cherry mission-style curio cabinet a few months ago that sits in the greatroom of the Jaegers' home in Grants Lick. Also on display is a six-pound, something-ounce largemouth bass he caught at Ryland Lakes.
"He loved to fish, " Mrs. Jaeger said. "That's the only one he ever had mounted, though."
A World War II veteran, he was retired as director of Human Resources at Milacron. He was a member of the Regional Board of Christian Church Disciples of Christ, the Lion's Club of Butler and the American Legion in Independence.
He also was chairman of the Northern Kentucky Planning & Zoning Commission, as well as a member of the Covington Civil Service Commission, the Kenton County School Board and the Woodworking Club of Greater Cincinnati.
Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Burial: Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Nancy Brumfield, of Elsmere, died Thursday at her residence. She was a hairdresser.
Survivors include her husband, Oakley Brumfield; sons, Don Turner and Garry Brumfield; three sisters, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home, Nicholasville. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Nicholasville.
Elwood Finfrock, 74, of Highland Heights, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Harold Gene Finfrock, Sr., and her son, Harold Finfrock, Jr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Donna Adams of Cincinnati and Sandra Barnes of Cold Spring; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Cold Spring. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati.
Dr. Charles R. "Charlie Bob" Ford, 72, of Owenton, died Thursday at VA Medical Center, Lexington. He was a retired chiropractor, a Purple Heart veteran of the Korean War, and a member of El Bethel Christian Church, Owen County. His daughter, Summer Blairford, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Bishop Ford; sons, Sterling Ford of Alexandria, Sidney Ford of Owenton, Quinn Ford of Galveston, Texas, Matthew David of Wheatley, and Michael David of New Liberty; sisters, Lucy Sutherland of Ocala, Fla., and Betsy Ford of Owenton; and eight grandchildren.

William J. Huninghake, 64, of Bellevue, died Thursday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a self-employed lithographer and a member of First Baptist Church of Bellevue.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Crosby Huninghake; sons, James Huninghake and William Huninghake, Jr., both of Bellevue; daughters, Karen Daniels of Alexandria and Shelley Hall of Dayton; a sister, Katherine Ryan of Florence; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jessie Kohler, 80, of Latonia, died Thursday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Charles Kohler; a son, Bill Kohler; and a daughter, Diana Turner, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Ron Henry of Montgomery, Ala.; a daughter, Cynthia Varney of Covington; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Floyd "Shorty" McDaniel, 76, of Richwood, died Thursday at St. Luke West Hospice, Florence. He was a retired construction worker.
Survivors include his wife, Aliene McDaniel.
Services will be at noon Monday at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Richwood Cemetery.
Marie A. Racke, 89, of Highland Heights, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired cafeteria manager from Highland Heights Elementary.
She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Alexandria, Highland Heights PTA, and the Purity Council for Daughters of America.
Her husband, George E. Racke, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Glen Racke of Alexandria; a daughter, Janice Racke Painter of Alexandria; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Anna Lucille Smith, 92, of Cynthiana, died Thursday at her residence. She was a retired office clerk from Lloyd Rogers and a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Cynthiana, Order of the Eastern Star, Harrison Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and the Harrison County Homemakers.
Her husband, Lloyd J. Smith, Sr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Harry Louis Smith and Lloyd J. Smith, Jr., both of Lexington; a daughter, Priscilla Ann Rice of Harrison County; a sister, Elizabeth Hopper of Dayton, Ohio; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

James R. Smith, 55, of Corinth, died Wednesday at University Medical Center, Lexington.
He was a retired baker from Butternut Bakery.
Survivors include his wife, Penny Smith; a son, Jimmy Smith of Dry Ridge; brothers, Ronald Smith of Independence and Kenny Smith of Covington; his mother, Thelma Smith of Covington; and sisters, Diana Brownell of Vermont, Cheryl Voss of Covington, Carol Wilson of Corinth, and Donna Smith of Montana.

Howard E. "Buz" Storn, 52, of Alexandria, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a quality control inspector at Meyer Tool, Inc., Cincinnati, and a member of the Bob White Club, Claryville.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy Storn; a son, Craig Storn of Alexandria; daughters, Jayne Storn of Alexandria and Suzie Storn of Newport; brothers, Brad Storn of Alexandria and Ron Storn of Villa Hills; sisters, Julie Knight of Fairfield, Ohio, and Sue Sinkulor of Atlanta, Ga.; and one grandchild.

Mildred "Millie" Kafel Young, 77, of Dayton, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
She was a retired beauty salon owner and operator, and a member of First Baptist Church of Bellevue and the Order of the Eastern Star, Dora Chapter.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Young; a son, Gary Kafel of Bellevue; daughters, Cathy Vickers of Dayton and Sharon Wehmeyer of Fort Thomas; a stepson, Gary Young of Freeport, Ill.; stepdaughters, Marsha Young of Cleveland, Tenn., and Carol Ann Young of Brazil, Ind.; brothers, Robert "JR" Thompson of Covington, Estill "Mouse" Thompson of Manchester, and Ronnie Thompson of McKee; sisters, Mattie "Tillie" Martin of Las Vegas, Nev., Vera Leever of St. Augustine, Fla., Lois Smith of London, and Catherine Eastwood of Corbin; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
