Miriam 'Min' Lampe, center of close-knit family
Miriam "Min" Witemyre Lampe made clothes for her children, was president of a mothers club and was at the center of a close-knit family.
"She was a great wife, mother and grandmother, and she loved every minute of it, " said Mrs. Lampe's daughter, Barb Haas of Fort Thomas. "She was a happy, happy person."
Mrs. Lampe, 81, of Fort Thomas, died of acute leukemia at St. Luke Hospital East on Wednesday, 40 years to the day after the death of her mother, Loretta Witemyre.
Mrs. Lampe attended St. Thomas School and graduated from Notre Dame Academy. She was past president of the St. Thomas Church Mothers Club and a member of the St. Thomas Boosters.
She was a member of the Highland Country Club in Fort Thomas and the Lake Country Club in Palm Desert, Calif., where she and her husband of 56 years, Jack E. Lampe, spent winters for many years. She loved playing golf and three weeks ago was among a foursome that won a golf tournament at Thunderbird Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
"Mom was a talented and creative person, " Haas said. "She made beautiful clothes for herself and her daughters and also did beautiful needlepoint and knitting. With dad, mom was responsible for creating a very close-knit family by having Sunday family dinners, backyard ball games with the grandkids and yearly vacations in Michigan."
Haas said friends and relatives were always welcome at her parents' home. "There were many spontaneous parties. Mom was famous for being able to stretch any amount of food into enough for an unexpected crowd.
"Special to grandkids was spending the night at grandma's and having her tell stories of her childhood as well as stories of raising her five children."
Besides her husband and daughter, survivors include sons, Jim Lampe and Tom Lampe, daughters, Sue Grimme and Joan Ferris, and a sister, Virginia "Tep" McCafferty, all of Fort Thomas; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Church, Fort Thomas.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 tonight at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.
Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Lula Baird, 73, of Florence, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
She was a retired leather cutter with Miller Shoe Co. Her husband, John E. Baird, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Brian K. Baird of Dry Ridge and John P. Cramer of Mount Orab, Ohio; a daughter, Karen Browning of Dry Ridge; a sister, Helen Webb of Independence; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Florence Cemetery.
Michael Joseph Barbian, 21, of Alexandria, died at 12:04 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a part-time worker with Lasting Impressions by Linda, Alexandria, a student at Northern Kentucky University and a member of the Northern Kentucky Fly Fishers Association.
Survivors include his parents, Stephen and Linda Peters Barbian of Alexandria; a sister, Christina Barbian of Erlanger; and grandparents, Ann Peters of Alexandria and Edna Barbian of Cold Spring.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Alexandria. Prayers will be at 9:45 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Alexandria.

Helen Schmidt Bridge, 87, of Oakland Park, Fla., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Tuesday at Northridge Medical Center, Oakland Park.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Marjean Wisby of Cincinnati; a sister, Mildred Schmidt of Oakland Park; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at noon Monday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Margaret Ferguson, 75, of Florence, died at 4 p.m. Wednesday at her home.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Church, Florence. Her husband, Wallace Lee Ferguson, died in 1987. A son, Danny Lee Ferguson, died in 1976.
Survivors include sons, Mark R. Ferguson of Sparta, Bruce L. Ferguson of Fairborn, Ohio, and Wallace Lee Ferguson II of Lexington; a brother, Earl Menz of Cincinnati; sisters, Verna Smith, Ruth Schrand and Carol Lammers, all of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Alma Donnelly Fitzwater, 79, of Erlanger, died Wednesday at Woodcrest Manor, Elsmere.
She was a homemaker. Her husband, James T. Fitzwater, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, David Fitzwater of Dry Ridge; a daughter, Beverly Coleman of Crestview Hills; sisters, Okla Vaughn and Elizabeth Keller; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Margaret Louise Ransom Glacken, of Latonia, died at 8:17 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a homemaker and a member of Madison Avenue Christian Church, Covington. She also attended Latonia Christian Church. Her husband, James "Rod" Robert Glacken, died in 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Luella K. Glacken of Latonia.

Jessie Kohler, 80, of Ludlow, died Thursday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia.

Herbert L. Richardson, 63, of Crittenden, died at 8:55 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
He was a retired truck driver with Thomas Trucking Co., Cincinnati, a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church in Grant County and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Richardson; a son, Dwayne Wilburn of Ludlow; brothers, Russell Louis Richardson of Demossville, Pete Wheeler of Lexington and Sonny Jett of Woodbridge, Va.; sisters, Virginia Lowe of Dry Ridge, Darlene Preston and Jeffnye Strey, both of Danville, Geneva Richardson of Paris and Alice Wheeler of Perryville; and five grandchildren.

Jean Wagner Sexton, 72, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington.
She was a retired cook with Biancke's and Family Fare, and a member of Central Christian Church. A son, David Wayne Sexton, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Ray R. Sexton; sons, Roger Earl Sexton of Nashville, Tenn., Ken Sexton of Mount Juliet, Tenn., Johnny "Mulehead" Sexton and Ronnie McKee, both of Cynthiana; a daughter, Elaine C. DeVoe of Xenia, Ohio; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Stevens, 89, of Latonia, died at 12:08 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
She was a retired tax examiner with the Internal Revenue Service. Her husband, Charles Stevens, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Nelson "Ben" Sanford of Latonia and Stanley Stevens of Fort Smith, Ark.; a daughter, Elizabeth Tyler of Modesto, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Bernard J. Tiettmeyer, 79, of Norwood, Ohio, died Monday at Hospice of Cincinnati.
He was a Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Tiettmeyer; a stepson, Mitch Green of Norwood; a sister, Eleanor Grefer of Fort Wright; and a step-granddaughter.

Walter A. Velosky, 87, of Williamstown, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown.
He was a retired machinist with American Tool Works, Cincinnati, attended Williamstown Baptist Church and was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Fern DeVol Velosky, died in 2001.
Survivors include sons, Howard A. Velosky of Frankfort and Samuel A. Velosky of Florence; daughters, Ann Huff of Alexandria, Irene Willoughby of Williamstown and Margie R. Jordan of Florence; a brother, Jim Velosky of Belleview; sisters, Margie Saunders of Fort Thomas and Mildred Yonker of Belle Valley, Ohio; 20 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Margaret Vogel, 98, of Highland Heights, died Wednesday at River Valley Nursing Home, Butler.
She was a homemaker, a past president of the St. Mary's Ladies Society and St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. She also volunteered at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights and was a volunteer election poll worker. Her husband, George Vogel, a son, Robert Vogel, and a daughter, Diane Vogel Herbert, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Joan Wehrman of California and Carol Havlin of Cold Spring; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Paul J. White, 85, of Newark, Ohio, formerly of Alexandria, died Wednesday at Heritage Unit, Newark Healthcare Centre.
He was a former pastor of several churches, a planter for Northside Baptist Church in Newark and an Army veteran of World War II
Survivors include his wife, Clara E. White; a son, David White of Guilderland, N.Y.; daughters, Melba Lukvee of Wilmington, N.C., Wanda Hoover of Grove City, Ohio, and Bonnie Birney of Pataskala, Ohio; a brother, Chester White of Alexandria; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Northside Baptist Church, Newark. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home, Newark. Burial will be in Pataskala Cemetery.
