James Bowling, a devoted Mason
James Earl Bowling was a good father who loved his job as splicing supervisor with Cincinnati Bell, where he retired in 1981 after 30 years.
"I think he enjoyed that (serving as a telephone pole splicer) more than being the supervisor, " said his daughter, Debbie Pfalz of Taylor Mill.
"I think he felt appreciative of the job because, not that it's a bad place to work now, but back in those days it was a good opportunity."
Mr. Bowling 85, of Taylor Mill, died Friday at St. Elizabeth North Hospice in Covington.
He was a U.S. Navy Korean and World War II veteran, and a member of the Latonia Baptist Church, the Bradford Lodge #123 in Independence and a member of the Scottish Rite.
Pfalz said her dad was an outgoing man who was very devoted to his Masonic Lodge and proud of his stint in the military.
He also loved to hunt and was very close with his granddaughter, Ashley Gunn, 23, of Colorado.
She said her most fond memories of her dad are the family vacations she and her two brothers spent each summer as children with their parents traveling to different state parks in Kentucky.
"It was just a good family time, " Pfalz said.
He is also survived by his wife, Dorothy Bowling, of Taylor Mill; and two sons, Ron Bowling of Petersburg, Ky. and Jim Bowling of Taylor Mill.
Services will begin at noon Monday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home in Latonia.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Taylor Mill.

Thomas J. Dickerson Sr., 84, of Newport, died Wednesday at his residence.
He was the retired owner of Dickerson Service Station, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel Dickerson; a son, Thomas J. Dickerson Jr., of Flemingsburg; daughters, Sharon K. Nelson of Newport and Pat Pangallo of Southgate; 26 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Southwest Ohio Crematory, Milford, Ohio, is handling the cremation.

Euna Eshom, 91, of Cincinnati, died Thursday at the Matrix of Westwood Nursing Home, Cincinnati.
She was a member of High Point Baptist Church, Cincinnati. Her husband, Clifton Eshom, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Patricia Case of Falmouth, Janet Sheldon of Carlisle, Ohio, and Mary Lou Bucksath of Richwood; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Rest Haven cemetery Chapel, Cincinnati. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Cincinnati.

Dianne Flege, 61, of Erlanger, died Wednesday at her residence.
She was a retired salesperson from End-O-Line, Fort Wright.
Survivors include her husband, Charles "Skip" Flege; daughters, Shanon Reffitt of Independence and Sheila Compton of Taylor Creek, Ohio; a sister, Nancy Hamm of Erlanger; and three grandchildren.
Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Henry Church, Elsmere. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Virginia Emmett Kuntz, 88, of Dayton, died Wednesday at Highlands of Fort Thomas.
She was a homemaker. Her husband, Anthony "Sam" Kuntz, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Don Kuntz of Melbourne and Len Kuntz of Newport; daughters, Janice Gastright of Dayton, Norma Weber of High Point, N.C., and Marlene Wesley of Independence; brothers, Earl Emmett of Dayton, John Emmett of Fort Wright, and Leroy Emmett of Harrison, Ohio; sisters, Loretta White and Shirley Emmett, both of Dayton, and Marion Koehler of Fort Wright; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was a retired metal worker for Michael Arts Bronze and a member of St. Henry Church, Elsmere.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Leiprecht; a son, Jim Leiprecht of Erlanger; a daughter, Linda Godsey of Independence; sisters, Carol McMain of Erlanger and Helen Freeman of Reseda, Calif.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

James O. Maxwell Sr., 64, of Florence, died Friday at his residence.
He was a laborer with Pierce Field Construction.

John Brady Scanlon, 32, of Newport, died Thursday at his residence.
He was the owner of Four Leaf Landscaping.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Geof and Janet Scanlon; his mother and stepfather, Ann Beckman-Carlisle and David Carlisle; a brother, Brennan Scanlon; and a sister, Kelly Ann Flesch.

He was a retired sales manager in the auto industry and an Army veteran. His first wife, Elizabeth Anne Wilson, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Grayson Wilson; a son, David Parke of Lexington; daughters, Alice Marsh of Carrollton, Colleen Crabtree, Connie McGlinchey, and Cheryl Neal, all of Lexington; a brother, Billy Wilson of Owen County; sisters, Imogene Kern of Memphis, Tenn., and Brenda Curtis of Owenton; and eight grandchildren.
