Ronald James Jones, involved in good causes
Ronald James Jones was an energetic businessman and Knights of Columbus office-holder who was adept at organizing charitable events.
"With the businesses he owned and the people he knew, he could get people involved in a lot of things for good causes. He was a great motivator, " said Mr. Jones' son, Joey J. Jones of Silver Grove.
Mr. Jones, 65, of Alexandria, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth South Hospital.
He owned and operated the Triangle Tavern in Silver Grove, owned Costa Foods in Cincinnati and distributed dairy products in Northern Kentucky.
After selling his businesses, he became a supervisor at the national headquarters of the Disabled American Veterans in Cold Spring.
Mr. Jones, a Newport native, was the only three-term grand knight of the Father DeJaco Council of the Knights of Columbus and held several other local and statewide offices of the organization.
The graduate of Silver Grove High School was a member of St. Philip Church in Melbourne and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Mr. Jones enjoyed playing golf and organized numerous golf outings to benefit charitable causes.
"He loved raising money to build things and buy things for kids' activities, " said his son. "He was always involved in good causes."
Other survivors include his wife of 44 years, Shirley Whitford Jones; a son, Jerry J. Jones of Alexandria; a brother, Ralph Jones of California, Ky.; three sisters, Florence Pelle of Wilder, Barbara DiMuizo of Florence and Shirley Steffen of Alexandria, and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Dobbling Funeral Home in Fort Thomas, with a Knights of Columbus service at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Philip Church in Melbourne.

Virginia C. Banzhaf, 88, of Fort Thomas, died Saturday at her residence. She was a homemaker and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Dora Chapter No. 2, Dayton, Daughters of the American Purity Council No. 13, Newport, and the Traveling Seniors of Dayton. Her husband, Edward Banzhaf Sr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Banzhaf of Jacksonville, Fla.; stepsons, Edward Banzhaf of Cincinnati and Robert Banzhaf of Boone, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Thomas E. Beechem II, 51, of Park Hills, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a pharmacist with St. Elizabeth Medical Center North and a member of the Fort Wright Civic Club, St. Agnes Boosters, and was a St. Agnes School coach.
Survivors include his wife, Paula Vordenberg Beechem; sons, Thomas Beechem, III, John Beechem, and Caleb Beechem, all of Park Hills; a daughter, Michaela Beechem of Park Hills; his parents, Thomas and Gladys Beechem of Park Hills; brothers, Brian Beechem of Erlanger and Joe Beechem of Eugene, Ore.; and sisters, Beth Krebs of Southgate, Mary Jo Whelan of Villa Hills, and Kathy Nadherney of Cincinnati.
No services are scheduled. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Mr. Beechem will be cremated. Margaret Elizabeth Best, 94, of Bethel, Ohio, died Monday at The Villa, Georgetown. She was a retired teacher and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Retired Teachers of Clermont County, and Retired Teachers of the State of Ohio.
There are no survivors.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Moore & Parker Funeral Home, Augusta. Visitation will begin there at noon Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Augusta. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Margaret A. Carroll, 75, of Hebron, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth North Hospice, Covington. She was a retired school teacher and a member of Sand Run Baptist Church, Hebron, and the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include her mother, Marie Carroll of Hebron; brothers, Bob Carroll of Sharpsville, Ind., Don Carroll of Tipton, Ind., Lynn Carroll of Hiram, Ga., and Pat Carroll of Emlyn; and a sister, Charlene Carroll of Hebron.

Charles A. Cox, 72, of Friendswood, Texas, formerly of Ludlow, died Sunday at St. Luke Episcopal Hospital, Houston, Texas. He was a retired right of way agent from the Kentucky Department of Transportation and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Ludlow, Ludlow Vets, and a coach and mentor of many Northern Kentucky sports leagues. His wife, Phyllis Cox, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Mike Cox of League City, Texas, Mark Cox of Houston, Texas, and Randy Cox of Friendswood, Texas; a daughter, Holly Collins of Magnolia, Texas; a sister, Lila Lee Van Stone of Indiana; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Saturday at Jeter Funeral Home, Friendswood, Texas. Local visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Burial will be in Forest Park East Cemetery, Webster, Texas.
Mary Dreyer, 63, of Park Hills, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a Kenton County juvenile court clerk and a member of St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright.
Survivors include her husband, Mark F. Dreyer; sons, Robert T. Dreyer and Stephen F. Dreyer, both of Edgewood; daughters, Connie M. Zembrodt of Petersburg, Marcy A. Gleick of Franklin, Ohio, and Susan L. Umbarger of Park Hills; a brother, Sam Alloway of Cincinnati; sisters, Faith Jacqueline Rossman of Cincinnati, Vivian Mayhugh of Amelia, Ohio, and Frances Alloway of San Diego, Calif.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

John H. Franxman, 81, of Covington, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired heavy equipment mechanic from Bavarian Trucking, Walton, an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of St. Pius X Church, Edgewood.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Bilz Franxman; sons, Richard Franxman of Union, David Franxman of Erlanger, Steven Franxman and Mark Franxman, both of Taylor Mill, Paul Franxman of Independence, Andrew Franxman of Crestview Hills, and Robert Franxman of Erlanger; daughters, Judith Schneider of Edgewood, Emily Franxman of Gaithersburg, Md., Rita Wood of Kermit, Texas, Leah Booker of Taylor Mill, and Rachel Martis of Independence; a sister, Sister Justina Franxman, O.S.B., of Villa Hills; and 18 grandchildren.

Terri Haight, 38, of Newport, died Monday at her residence. She was an employee at the IRS and a member of Holy Trinity Church.

Loreen McBurney Lusby, 91, of Carrollton, died Saturday at her residence. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Paul B. Lusby, preceded her in death.

James Glenden "Glenn" Williams, 74, of Independence, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired transport driver and a member of Carter's Chapel United Methodist Church, Gardnersville.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Williams; a son, Glenn Williams of Burlington; a daughter, Bev Ketron of Independence; a brother, Jeff Williams of Piner; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Stella Mae Jones Workman, 69, of Brooksville, died Monday at Augusta Health Care Center. She was a retired meat packer from Kern's Meat Locker and a member of Powersville Christian Church, Brooksville. Her husband, Darrell "Buck" Workman, preceded her in death.
