Jerry Racke, coach, skilled trap shooter

Educator and sports coach Jerry Racke was one of the finest trap shooters in the United States.

"He probably would have been on the U.S. Olympic team in 1980 if not for the U.S. boycotting the games in Moscow that year, " said his brother, Henry Racke of Alexandria.

Mr. Racke, 64, of Alexandria, died Monday in Birmingham, Ala., where he had been putting bird dogs through field trials.

He coached football and golf at Campbell County High School, where he also was a teacher and assistant principal. He later was director of transportation at the school.

Mr. Racke was a trap shooter for more than 40 years and was national president of the Amateur Trapshooting Association, which has about 100, 000 members.

He also was an avid horseman who showed draft horses at the Alexandria Fair and Horse Show, and he rode Tennessee walking horses in conjunction with putting bird dogs through field trials.

"He was well known for his sports endeavors, " said his brother. "He loved animals and the outdoors. He hunted and fished from the time he was a child.

"He was a very friendly, outgoing guy. He enjoyed being around people who shared his interests in sports and the outdoors. He lived his life doing exactly what he wanted to do."

The graduate of Campbell County High School and Eastern Kentucky University was a former board member of Holly Hill Children's Home.

In addition to his brother, survivors include his wife, Faye, and a sister, Iris Leo Stull of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Alexandria.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Alexandria Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Alexandria.

Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Trap Shooting Hall of Fame Scholarship Fund, Hall of Fame, 601 W. National Road, Vandalia, Ohio 45377.

Alta Harper Aulick, 96, of Cynthiana, died Sunday at Grand Haven Nursing Home, Cynthiana.

She was a homemaker and a member of Oakland Christian Church, Falmouth. Her husband, Oral H. Aulick, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Larry Aulick of Cynthiana; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Memorials are suggested to Oakland Christian Church, 5161 Milford Road, Falmouth, Ky. 41040.

June Fay Erb Blatt, 84, of Fort Thomas, died Wednesday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home, Fort Thomas.

She was a homemaker. Her husband, Wayne Blatt, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen Blatt of Cold Spring; a brother, Robert Merrill of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and a sister, Bonnie Shoemaker of Newport.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Newport.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, is handling the arrangements.

Dolly Bosshammer, 95, of Shreveport, La., formerly of Covington, died Wednesday at Colonial Oaks Nursing Home, Bossier City, La.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, Shreveport, La. Her husband, Lamar Bosshammer, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Mary Darby of Shreveport, La., and Betty McDavit of Miami, Fla.; five grand-children and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. There is no visitation.

Albert Thomas Cahill, 87, of Cincinnati, died Monday at Jewish Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a retired cook at the Salvation Army, Cincinnati.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mary Jean Cahill of Cold Spring; and a niece, Linda McQuistion of Uniontown, Ohio.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Divine Mercy Parish, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Joyce Ann Gripshover, 72, of Edgewood, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth North Hospice, Covington.

She was a retired manager from McDonald's. Her husband, Cecil Gripshover, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Paul Gripshover of Florence, Mark Gripshover of Union, Dan Gripshover of Fort Mitchell, and Tom Gripshover of Crittenden; a daughter, Sheila Dailey of Edgewood; brothers, Dale Fewell of Edgewood and Gary Fewell of Covington; a sister, Kay Fewell of Erlanger; and 11 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Friday at St. Pius X Church, Edgewood. Visitation will begin there at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Paul Eugene Irwin Sr., 67, of Independence, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

He was a retired aircraft maintenance manager at Raytheon Corp. and a retired Air Force master sergeant.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Bass Masters Anglers Sportsman Society.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Irwin; sons, Eric Irwin of Princeton, Texas, and Lt. Col. Paul Irwin Jr., of Ports-mouth, R.I.; a brother, William Irwin of Hilliard, Ohio; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Dayton National Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio.

Velma Dean Blevins Lindon, 78, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker and a Salvation Army Silver Star mother.

Her husbands, Jesse Lindon and Harold David Brewer, and three children, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Daniel C. Lindon of Florence and Gary L. Burgess of Dayton, Ohio; daughters, Judy Vaglis of Staten Island, N.Y., Marcella Carlson of Lafayette Hill, Penn., Lovoice Stokes of Franklin Park, N.J., Savannah Sue Rider of Florence, and Cindy Louise Lindon of Patriot, Ind.; brothers, John Blevins of Jacksonville, Fla., and James Blevins of Alexandria; sisters, Johreta Roach of Wilder and Janet Bartlett of Newport; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Helen Frye Meschendorf, 94, of Fort Thomas, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Thomas Church, Fort Thomas, St. Thomas Mothers Club, St. Thomas Boosters, Daughters of Isabella, Rosary Society, and Bridge Marathon.

Her husband, William John Meschendorf, and her son, Richard W. Meschendorf, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Mary Ann Jenkins and Betty Jo Harmon, both of Fort Thomas, and Willette Meschendorf of Cincinnati; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Church, Fort Thomas. There is no visitation.

Bill Newton, 72, of Falmouth, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Scott Newton; sons, Billy Ray Newton of Campton and Dale Newton of Owenton; daughters, Regina Rosell of Worthville and Rhonda Howell of Carrollton; brothers, Johnny Lee Newton and Harvey Newton, both of Newport; a sister, Callie Fry of Plainsville, Ind.; 30 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Morgan Cemetery, Pendleton County.

Rosella M. Plummer, 92, of Highland Heights, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband, John N. Plummer, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, John Plummer of Fort Thomas; daughters, Janice Wendel of Rotonda West, Fla., and Joyce MacMillan of Fort Thomas; a brother, Ed Gantner of Milford, Ohio; a sister, Lorraine Wiggins of Highland Heights; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Dr. Ron Rosenstiel, 63, of Barbourville, died Monday at Knox County Hospital.

He was a professor of sociology at Union College, Barbourville.

Survivors include his wife, Robin Becker Rosenstiel; a son, Aaron Rosenstiel of Lexington; daughters, Shannon Maynor of Asheville, N.C., and Gay Slone of London; a brother, Paul Rosenstiel of Fort Thomas; and a sister, Judy Eubank of Walton.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Sacred Valley Cemetery, Barbourville.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
