Marguerite Perkins, loved to stay home with family
Marguerite Helen Perkins spent her life caring for others.
Mrs. Perkins, who died Wednesday at 85, first cared for her husband, Robert E. Perkins, who died in 1968.
Then she cared for her mother, who died in 1972, and her sister, who died in 1991. Then she cared for her brother-in-law, who died a year later.
"She would have been a wonderful nurse, " said her daughter, Teena Findley, who has lived with her mother in Taylor Mill all her life.
"She was a wonderful, compassionate, loving, caring, responsible, conscientious person."
Born in Rockcastle County, she moved to Decoursey while still a child and graduated from Dixie Heights High School in 1939.
She met her husband during World War II when he was stationed in Fort Thomas, and they married
in October 1942. After his death, she never remarried or even dated, her daughter said.
She didn't go to work outside the home after his death either, but somehow managed to keep her household going. "I really don't know how she cared for us, " her daughter said.
She was a lifelong member of Latonia Baptist Church, but never held any offices there.
Aside from shopping and eating out, Mrs. Perkins most enjoyed staying home with her family. "Home was where her heart was, " her daughter said. "She was very satisfied by being home."
Other survivors include a daughter, Vonda Gail Alford of Camp Dennison, Ohio; sisters, Mildred Ringeisen of Latonia and Janet Wilson of Pleasant Ridge, Ohio; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Latonia Baptist Church, 3800 Church St., Covington, Ky. 41015; or the charity of the donor's choice.
Charles S. Cleveland Sr., 86, of Covington, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired carpenter with Carpenters Union Local 126, a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Latonia and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cleveland; sons, Gene Cleveland and Charles Cleveland Jr., both of Covington; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Monday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Calvary Christian School, 5955 Taylor Mill Road, Covington, Ky. 41015.
Katherine Knight Elam, 86, of Florence, died Wednesday at Villaspring Care Center, Erlanger. She was a retired registration assistant with the Louisville Convention Bureau and a former employee of the Nestle Beich Candy Co. Her husband, Charles R. Elam, died in 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Charlene Rouse of Florence; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Pearson's Funeral Home, Louisville. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 tonight, and from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. William J. Gregory Jr., 70, of Erlanger, died Thursday at his home.
He was a retired welder with Mar Mat Steel Fabricating Co., Erlanger, and Cincinnati Milacron, a deacon at Erlanger Baptist Church, and an Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel Gregory; sisters, Nancy Duechle of Fort Mitchell, Sue Scott of Erlanger, Phyllis Bobinger of Erlanger, Mary Gregory of Las Vegas and Gayle Amussen of Glendale, Calif.; and brothers, Robert Gregory, Victor Gregory and Thomas Gregory, all of Erlanger.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Erlanger Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Anna Pearl Ross Johnson, 89, of Walton, died Wednesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence.
Arrangements are pending at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton.
Marian E. Rehkamp, 84, of Covington, died Thursday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. She was a payroll department worker with Cincinnati Milacron and a member of Legion of Mary, Catholic Golden Age, and the Benedictine Guild.
Survivors include a brother, Earl Rehkamp of Covington, and a sister, Delores Rogers of Covington.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to St. Charles Care Center, 500 Farrell Drive, Covington, Ky. 41011. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.
Matthew P. Sandfoss, 40, of Melbourne, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.
He was a manager of the Drug Emporium, Cincinnati.
Survivors include a son, Matthew Hunter Sandfoss of Cincinnati; his mother, Joanne Sandfoss of Melbourne; and a brother, Lawrence "L.J." Sandfoss Jr. of Melbourne.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Philip Church, Melbourne.
Visitation will begin there at 8 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

L. Winston Sorrell, 78, of Falmouth, died Wednesday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati.
He was the former owner of Deluxe Dry Cleaners in Falmouth and a member of Falmouth Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae Sorrell; sons, Steve Sorrell of Foster and Bruce Sorrell of Falmouth; a daughter, Amy Norton of Falmouth; sisters, Ada Moore and Hattie Daugherty, both of Falmouth; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Arthur F. Stone, 35, of Gardena, Calif., formerly of Cincinnati, died Saturday at Inland Valley Regional Medical Center in Wildemor, Calif.
He was a pit manager with Pachanga Casino in Temecula, Calif., and a former employee of Argosy Casino, Lawrenceburg, Ind.
Survivors include his wife, My-Tien Stone; sons, Michael Stone and Arthur Stone, both of Norwood, Ohio; a daughter, Magen Stone of Norwood; his father, Joseph H. Stone of Newport; and sisters, Traci Sebastian of Maysville, Rebecca Adams of Erlanger and Karen Rardin of Coral Springs, Fla.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill.
Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Saturday.
James "Jack" William Wainscott, 74, of Worthville, died Wednesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Louisville.
He was a farmer, a member of Dallasburg Baptist Church, and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Towles Wainscott, and a son, James Wainscott of Worthville.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Dallasburg Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at McDonald and New Funeral Home, Owenton, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Burial will be in Wheatley Cemetery.
