Frances Beck, always offered helping hand
Frances M. Beck was always willing to lend a helping hand.
She volunteered at St. Pius X Grade School, organized festival dinners for St. Pius X Church, helped the Benedictine Sisters and volunteered at Madonna Manor.
"Mom grew up during the Depression and saw how much others needed help and that inspired her to help people throughout her life, " said a daughter, Phyllis Beck of Edgewood.
Mrs. Beck, 83, of Edgewood, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth North Hospice in Covington.
"She was really an outgoing person, " said her daughter. "She was a real people person. She liked to get involved in community activities."
Born on Feb. 11, 1922, Mrs. Beck was reared in West Covington during the Depression. Her mother, Goldie Rodgers, baked bread, which she and her sisters sold door-to-door to help the family make ends meet. She eventually had to quit Holmes High School to help support the family.
She married
Larry Beck at age 18 and they moved to a dairy farm in Edgewood.
"Mom did everything on that farm, from making butter, gathering eggs, killing chickens, milking cows and canning vegetables, " said another daughter, Linda Christensen of Edgewood. "She also made clothes for her children."
Mrs. Beck volunteered at the school cafeteria of St. Pius X Grade School in Edgewood, headed up the St. Pius X Church festival dinner for many years and was involved with the Confraternity of Christian Mothers.
She was a founding member of the Northern Kentucky Homebuilders Ladies Auxiliary and later served as president of the organization.
Mrs. Beck also was a member of the Erlanger Lioness Club and president of the Prime Time Seniors.
Surviving in addition to her daughters are sons, David Beck of Crittenden, John Beck of Crestview Hills, and Matt Beck of Fort Mitchell; another daughter, Carole Motzer of Lakeside Park; brothers, Jack Rod-gers of Taylor Mill and Sonny Rod-gers of Erlanger; sisters, Jesse Wallace of Independence, Hilda Schneider of Florence, and Imajean Scott of Erlanger; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Pius X Church, Edgewood. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to the Diocesan Catholic Children's Home, 75 Orphanage Road, Fort Mitchell, Ky. 41017.
Zella "Toots" B. Barnes, 72, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired transportation assistant from Boone County Public Schools. Her husband, Robert O. Barnes, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Margaret Barnes of Taos, N.M., and Susan Boyle of Corona, Calif.; her mother, Irene Dykes of Berea; brothers, Clifton "Sonny" Dykes of Somerset and Ronald E. Dykes of Lexington; a sister, Mable Brock of Berea; and one grandchild.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wesley's Chapel, Somerset. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Wesley's Chapel Cemetery, Somerset. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
Nancy Carol Beach, 59, of Sanders, died Sunday at Jewish Hospital, Louisville. She was a retired forklift operator from Ato-Chem Co., Carrollton, and a member of Sanders Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Wayne Beach; a son, John W. Beach of Sanders; a brother, John Curtis King of Loganville, Ga.; a sister, Brenda Sutherland of Bedford; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ghent Masonic Cemetery.
Paul Douglas Dorman, 86, of Taylor Mill, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Richard "Dick" Greis Sr., 60, of California, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired employee from Kroger's, Cold Spring, and a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Georgia Greis; sons, Justin Greis of Cincinnati, Michael Greis of Somerset, and Richard Greis Jr., of California; brothers, Donald Greis of Fort Thomas, Earl Greis and Robert Greis, both of Melbourne; sisters, Mary Ann Barbian and Ruth Schalk, both of Alexandria, and Jean Johnson of Bellevue; and one grandchild.

Wilma Lee Goshorn, 75, of Alexandria, died Monday at her residence. She was a homemaker and a retired teacher. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Highland Heights, Children's Ministries Program, and United Methodist Women Administrative Council and Staff Parish Relations Committee. Her husband, Daniel T. Goshorn, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons, Thomas Daniel Goshorn of Brooksville and Timothy Graden Goshorn of Alexandria; daughters, Judith Lynn Daley of Bethel Park, Pa., and Susan Lee Nelson of Cold Spring; brothers, Robert Graden of Cameron, Mo., and William Graden of Chiefland, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren.

Jerry M. Hall, 64, of Villa Hills, died Sunday at his friend's residence in Louisville. He was a retired truck driver.

Barbara "Bobbie" Hensley, 68, of Fort Thomas, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of Newport Eagles.
Survivors include her husband, John Hensley, Sr.; sons, John Hensley, Jr., of Alexandria, Mike Hensley and Kurt Hensley, both of Fort Thomas; sisters, Mary Ballard of Orlando, Fla., Betty Turner of Alexandria, Stella Kapper of Batavia, Ohio, and Alice Cook of Erlanger; brothers, Thomas Pence, William Pence and Alan Pence, all of Newport; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Scott W. Hicks, 37, of Erlanger, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a salesman for several local automobile dealerships.
Survivors include his father, Edward Hicks of Brooksville, Ohio; his mother, Cheryl Hicks of Erlanger; a brother, Allan Hicks of Versailles, Ind.; and maternal grandmother, Mildred Gottschalk of Erlanger.

Robert E. McMullen Sr., 67, of Union, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired owner of Bomac Transport, an Army veteran, and a Shriner.

Mary E. Morris, of Covington, died Feb. 15 at St. Elizabeth North Hospice, Covington. She was a retired receptionist and co-owner of Centennial, Inc., and a member of St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Her husband, James R. Morris, preceded her in death.

Claude Burdette Poole Sr., 74, of Lewis County, died Saturday at Fleming County Hospital, Flemingsburg. He was a retired farmer and fur buyer.
Survivors include a son, Claude Burdette Poole Jr., of Fairborn, Ohio; daughters, Linda Poole of Maysville, Emma Banks and Betsy Deborcle, both of Fairborn, Ohio; sisters, Shirley Thomas of Maysville and Marion Thomas of Aberdeen, Ohio; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Beverly J. Price, 59, of Heath, Ohio, formerly of Falmouth, died Saturday at Licking Memorial Hospital, Newark, Ohio. She was a member of Oakland Christian Church, Pendleton County.
Survivors include a son, Robert Kent Price of Jacksontown, Ohio; a daughter, Krista Gail Price of Heath, Ohio; her parents, Kenneth and Wanda Wilson Harper of Falmouth; brothers, Stephen Harper and Phillip Harper, both of Falmouth; and six grandchildren.

Orville Merrill Ransom, 88, of Taylor Mill, died Sunday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. He was a retired engineer from Ford Motor Co., and a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church, Latonia Lakes, and Masonic Lodge No. 109.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Webster Ransom; a son, Kenneth L. Ransom of Taylor Mill; daughters, Claudia A. Barnickle of Independence and Eileen J. Ransom of Dry Ridge; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Robert M. Rundo, 81, of Crestview Hills, formerly of Fort Thomas, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired clerk from the U.S. Postal Service and a Purple Heart Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a brother, John E. "Bud" Rundo of North Port, Fla.; one nephew and two nieces.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.
