Sister Germann, educator; used discipline, kind heart
Sister Mary Ambrose Germann used discipline and love to firmly ground her students in academics and self-worth.
The longtime teacher and principal "wanted to have discipline in her classroom, but at the same time she had a kind heart, " said Sister Alice Gerdeman, a fellow nun at the Congregation of Divine Providence in Melbourne.
Sister Germann died Thursday at the Holy Family Home in Melbourne. She was 91.
She celebrated her 70th Jubilee in August.
Her faith "was just her whole life, " said Sister Gerdeman. "Her life was a life of faith, and everything she
did was motivated by that force."
A native of Ripley, Ohio, Sister Germann earned an associate degree in education at Xavier University.
She taught and served as principal at St. Bernard School in Dayton, Corpus Christi School in Newport and Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Burlington.
She also taught at St. Gregory School in Barbourville, St. Agatha School in Winchester, St. Cecilia School in Independence and a school in Maryland.
"She was very, very interested in her children getting a well-rounded education, " said Sister Gerdeman. "She was very much into teaching the basics, and then they would build from there.
"She seemed to have a special love for children who had a little harder time."
Sister Germann was still working part-time as an educator at the age of 81.
Survivors include a sisters, Sister Mary Gabriel Germann, a member of the Divine Providence in Melbourne, and Martha Enginger of Cincinnati; and brothers, Aloysius Germann of Birmingham, Ala., and Bernard Germann of Seaman, Ohio.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 4 p.m. Monday at St. Anne Convent in Melbourne. Visitation will begin there at 2:30 Monday.
Burial will be in St. Anne Convent Cemetery.

Ann Ruhall Belleville, 86, of Ft. Pierce, Fla., formerly of Grant County, died Thursday at her home.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Margaret Sue Lucas of Atlanta, and stepsons, James Belleville and Charles Belleville, both of Indiana.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. April 5 at Williamstown Cemetery. Local arrangements are being handled by Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.
Clarence Foster Jones, 91, of Florence, died at 4:05 p.m. Friday at Florence Park Care Center.
He was a retired carpenter's helper for L & N railroad. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia.
Survivors include sisters, Jean Smith of Winchester and Lucille Durbin of Winchester.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Visitation will begin there at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Carlisle Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Holy Cross Church, 3612 Church St., Latonia 41015.

Frank O. Kendall, 81, of Ludlow, died at 5:20 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Nursing Home, Covington. His wife, Margie, died in 1986.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Pohlmann-Linnemann VFW Post 1484 in Park Hills.
Survivors include sons, Onie Fezzer Kendall of the state of California, Mike Kendall of Charleston, S.C., Jerry Kendall of Washington, Kendall of Villa Hills, Robin Kendall, Frank Kendall and Monty Kendall of Ludlow, Ethan Kendall and Ethan Owen Kendall of Erlanger; daughters, Jonial Lawson of Villa Hills, Patsy Young of Ft. Mitchell, Mona Bowling of Dalton, Ga., and Candy Coleman of Independence; 43 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be there from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Vernon "Bud" Kinman, 73, of Warsaw, died Thursday at his home.
He was a retired employee for the state Highway Department. He was a member of the Good Guys club and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include sons, Vernon Kinman Jr. and Eric J. Kinman, both of Warsaw; sisters, Ruth Courtney of Ft. Wright and Helen Boaz of Chattanooga, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be there from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Glencoe Cemetery.

Carl P. Milar, 67, of Latonia, died at 1 p.m. Thursday at his home.
He was a retired teacher for Cincinnati Bell Telephone. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Gere E. Milar; sons, Carl James Milar of Elsmere and John Edward Milar of Florence; a daughter, Maria Ann Milar of Carrollton, Texas; a brother, James Milar of Maineville, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 today. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Ft. Wright.

Charles McCarty, 90, of Falmouth, died at 1:30 a.m. Friday at Rosedale Manor, Covington.
He was a retired machinist who worked for Cincinnati Planer Co. and Newport Steel.
Survivors include his wife, Iola Turner McCarty; sons, Charles McCarty and Paul McCarty, both of Independence; daughters, Rosella Spencer of Falmouth and Lois Miller of Newport; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Falmouth Wesleyan Church. Visitation will begin there at noon Monday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Jan Rose Mills, 63, of Ludlow, died at 7:45 p.m. Thursday at her home.
She was a member of Ludlow Christian Church.
Her husband, Addison Mills Sr., died in 1988.
Survivors include a daughter, Gina Beutel of Florence; sons, Ronnie Mills of Florence and Addison Mills Jr., of Villa Hills; a brother, Tex A. Inman of Tucson, Ariz.; and two grandchildren.

Amelia E. Nelson, 74, Newport, died Thursday at her home. She was a homemaker.

Joyce Faye Readnour, 66, of Crittenden, died at 7:58 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a homemaker and a member of Ralph Fulton VFW Post 6423, Erlanger. She was a member of Johnson-McElroy American Legion Post 227, Walton. Her husband, James O. "Buddy" Readnour, died in 1992.
Survivors include sons, James Readnour and Charles Readnour, both of Crittenden; brothers, Cliff Ryan of Walton, Earl Ryan of Covington, Robert Ryan of Peoria, Ill., and J.C. Ryan and Walt Ryan, both of Verona; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton. Visitation will be there from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Carpenter Family Cemetery, Richwood.
Helen Schroeder, 76, of Elsmere, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Walter J. Schroeder; a son, Pete Schroeder of Dayton; a daughter, Angele M. Alexander of Walton; a brother, Erich Dudeck of Germany; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Rose Bell Sellers, 88, of California, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas.
She is a retired employee for Model Laundry, Covington.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Stamper of California; a son, William Sellers of New Port Richey, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will be there from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Mentor.

Lillian C. Totten, 86, of Covington, died at 6:57 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
She was an assembly worker for Clopay Blind Co., Cincinnati.
Survivors include a niece, Judith Warren Evans of Dayton, Ohio.
There will be no services. Mrs. Totten donated her body to University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
