VERDIE POLLY SARTIN, 82, of Crawley Creek, formerly of Wayne, W.Va., Burial followed in the Sartin-Brewer Family death along with one daughter, Lottie Sartin, five brothers, Naamen, Garland, Herb, Lelsie Belcher, and Rommie Dempsey. Survivors include one brother, Dewey Ray Belcher of Baltimore, MD; one sister, Myrtle White of Morristown, Tenn. Also surviving is eight children, Geraldine Hill of Wayne, W.Va., Madleine Sartin of Columbus, OH, Alene McCloud of Lorain, OH, Bo Sartin of Columbus, OH, Nellie Bragg of Columbus, OH, Betty Lucas of Wayne, W.Va., Melvin Sartin of Columbus, OH, and Peggy Sartin of East Lynn, W.Va.; thirty-one grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, wife and friend to many. The family received visitors after 6 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home, and again on Thursday after 5 p.m. at the Neely Branch United Baptist Church.
Roxie Evelyn Beckett Cox preceded in death were father- in-law, Alley Cox, one brother, Ralph Beckett, brother-in-law, Jim Sanders, and a great-grandson, Chase Jayden Mustang-Cox.
She will be remembered and missed by her husband, Ronald Cox; children, Ronnie Cox and his wife Quinn, Kym Yeager and her husband Doug; grandchildren, Tabitha Takala and her husband J. J., Elizabeth Yeager, Christopher Cox, and Doug Yeager, Jr.; all of Columbus, Ohio. Also surviving is her mother-in-law, Mary Cox; sisters: Lovada Fitzpatrick and her husband Bennie of Carroll, Oh., Dora Lee Damron and her husband Ralph of Dunlow, WV, Betty Reed and her husband, John of Inez, Ky., Reva Wallace and her husband Jeff of Lavalette, WV, and Karen Bowen and her husband Charlie of Proctorville, Oh.; brothers: Charles Beckett and his wife Fonda of Buffalo, WV., Johnny Beckett and his wife Mary, Tommy Beckett and his wife Patricia, and Roy Beckett and his wife Kathy, all of Dunlow, WV., brother-in-laws, Kenny Cox and his wife Linda of Genoa, WV and Colen Cox and his wife Belinda of Wayne, WV, and special family friends, Randy George and Brenda Williams. She is a beloved aunt to 36 nieces and nephews, 57 great-nieces and great-nephews and 4 great-great nieces and great-great-nephews.
Throughout the years Roxie has served her community in many ways including serving as treasurer in several associations including Parsons Baptist Church, where she was a member, Marion Franklin Boosters, First Ladies Bowling League, and many others. Roxie was recently inducted into the Marion Franklin Hall of Fame and crowned Pageant Parent of the year by the Ohio American Coed Pageants. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
BERNICE OPAL PEPPER ESQUE, of Huntington, W.Va., entered her heavenly home December 11, 2007 on her 91st birthday. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home, Wayne by Rev. Ed Hood. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service with preceded in death were sisters, Muriel, Hazel, Dorothy, Virginia, and a brother, Irvin. Survivors include one son, Roland Esque and his wife Delores of Huntington, with whom she previously made her home; two grandsons, Bian Nash and his wife Mary of Moulrie, GA, Douglas Esque and his wife Nadia of Huntington; one granddaughter, Crystal Esque Welch and her husband Jef of Huntington; one great-grandson, Nathan welch; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Esque; and faithful friend Betty Nash who Bernice counted as a family treasure. Heartfelf thanks go to the staff at Heritage Center and to Hopspice. Maw-Maw will be sadly missed by her family who have fond memories of her. While we grieve the loss of this dear lady, our hearts are warmed knowing that she met her beloved Savior, Jesus, on her birthday.
MILDA NAPIER, 76, of Kiahsville, W.Va., Burial will follow in Community Memorial Gardens.
Milda was death. She attended Faith Freewill Baptist Church in Lavalette and loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include three sisters: Thelma Pack, Mary Potter, both of North Carolina, and Vada Cordell and husband Johnny of Paintsville, OH; five brothers: Charles Spence and wife Lucinda of Kiahsville, W.Va., Guy Spence of West Hamlin, W.Va., Freddie Spence and wife Violet of Pecks Mills, W.Va., Basil Spence and wife Sharon of Wayne, W.Va., and Chester Spence of Ferrun, Va.; four daughters: Linda Massengill and husband Thomas, Judy King and husband Dickie, Donna Napier, all of Sidney, OH, and Jewel Napier and husband Mark of Wayne, W.Va.; five sons: Kennith Napier and wife Teresa of East Lynn, W.Va., Bobby Napier and wife Georgia Sue of Kiahsville, W.Va., Charles Napier and wife Patty, David Napier, and Roger Napier and wife Cathy, all of Sidney, OH; twenty-one grandchildren including one special grandson whom she raised, John Allen Napier and wife Jennifer of Sidney, OH; thirty-one great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and friends and neighbors too numerous to mention. The family will receive visitors after 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
BURGESS ROWE, 78, of Genoa, W.Va., Burial will follow in the Thompson death was four brothers, Dude Rowe, Ralph Rowe, Curtis Rowe, and Ray Rowe; and three sisters, Emmie Coak, Vennie Kitts, and Olive Robertson. Burgess was a member of Rush Branch Baptist Church and loved picking up cans and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Susie K. Rowe of Genoa, W.Va.; three sisters, Florida Robertson of Wayne, W.Va., Hazel Harvey of Wayne, W.Va., and Audrey Jewell Watts of Kenova, W.Va.; one brother, John Rowe of Genoa, W.Va.; special care giver of 25 years, Jo Ann Rowe; and a host of nieces and nephews. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Johnson Tiller Funeral Home is honored to serve the Rowe family.
Loving husband, father and grandfather, LEON TAYLOR, 67, of East Lynn, W.Va., formerly of Hawthorne, Fla., Burial will follow in the Osburn death along with one brother, Gene Taylor, and one infant sister, Rose Taylor. He was a member of the Wolf Pen Church of Christ and a retired welder with ACF Industries in Huntington where he worked for 32 years. Leon also loved working on antique cars.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Martha Jewell Francis Taylor of East Lynn, W.Va.; five daughters, Brandy Taylor and Joe Thompson, Mary and Mark Ritter, Felisha and Jeff Hale all of East Lynn, W.Va., Tonya and Reuben Fetty of Prichard, W.Va., Debby and Greg Miller of Riverview, Fla; two sons, Brian Taylor and Harriet Brooks of East Lynn, W.Va., Rick and Patty Stapleton of Starke, Fla; two sisters, Joann and Ronnie Robertson, Joyce and James Chappell; two brothers Gary and Doris Taylor, and Earl Taylor; one aunt, Lillie Watts; one sister-in-law, Shirley Taylor; eighteen grandchildren; twelve grandchildren; numerous step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. MADONNA RAE ADKINS, 30, of Huntington, W.Va., Burial will follow in the Hurston Adkins death.
Madonna was the loving mother of one daughter, Melita Brook Adkins of Huntington. Additional survivors include her mother, Patty Adkins of East Lynn; her grandparents, Melita Adkins Wooten and Irvin Wooten of East Lynn; her aunt, Yvonne Conn and husband Terry of Man; her uncle Clifford "Kip" Adkins and wife Linda of Franklinton, NC; cousins Kelly Fekete and husband Johnny, James Conn and wife Jennifer, all of Man, Tara Epperheart and husband Tommy of Logan, Candace Adkins and husband Eric of Bedford, VA, Richard Adkins and wife Beki and Damon Adkins and wife Angie, all of NC; best friend Leigh Ann Caserta Carter of Man; and a host of friends and family. ANDREW JACKSON WILLIAMSON, 88, of Wayne, W.Va., formerly of Dingess, W.Va., Burial will follow in the Williamson death.
Survivors include his wife Marjorie Perry Williamson of Wayne; five children, John D. Williamson and wife Sylvia of Dingess, W.Va., Stella R. Vance and husband Donald of Dingess, W.Va., Andrew J. Williamson Jr. and wife Muriel of Southgate, Mich., Benny Williamson and wife Marsha, and Rudy Williamson and wife Janice, all of Dingess, W.Va.; one sister, Margie Elledge of North Carolina; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Andrew was a World War II veteran and served two years with the United States Navy stationed in the Philippines. He was a 35 year member of the UMWA and retired from Elkay Coal Company. Andrew was also an Ordained Deacon of the Mt. Moriah Church at East Fork of Twelvepole. The family will receive visitors after 6 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home.
