ETHEL PRATT DEAN, of Wayne, W.Va., departed this life Thursday, April 24, 2008 at the age of 99. She was preceded in death were four brothers, Luther, Herb, Dewey, and Charles Pratt, and two sisters, Ida Akers and Lutie Marcum.
Survivors include four sons, Everett Dean and his wife Elsie, Gary Dean, Ronnie Dean, and Oliver Dean, all of Wayne, W.Va.; two daughters, Deloris Adkins of Wayne, W.Va., and Jewell Chambers and her husband Ken of Hager Hill, KY; 19 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and 21 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 4 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Ministers Ken Chambers, Dan Chambers, and Deacon Eddie Dean officiating. Burial will follow in the Dean Burial will follow in the Stevens Family death. He graduated from Buffalo High School and loved coon hunting and the outdoors. Survivors include four sisters: Roxie Akers and husband John, of Wayne, W.Va., Susie North and husband Frank of Huntington, W.Va., Judy Thompson and husband Larry David of Genoa, W.Va., Renee Smith and husband Mike of Wayne, W.Va.; seven brothers: Jack Stevens and wife Cookie, of Huntington, W.Va., Jesse Stevens, Vernon Stevens, David Stevens and wife Lynn, Samuel Stevens, Mark Stevens, and Burgess P. Stevens and wife Penny, all of Wayne, W.Va.; his girlfriend and life mate, Mary Taylor of Wayne, W.Va., and her children, Arthur Jr. Taylor, of Leon, W.Va., Teddy Taylor, of Maryland, Angela Dawn Bowen of Morgantown, W.Va., and Kimberly Taylor of North Carolina; many special nieces and nephews who Timothy loved to pick on; and a host of friends and neighbors. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
VICTORIA ANN RAMEY, 37, of Wayne, W.Va., Burial will follow in the Ramey death. She is survived by her father, James Ramey of Wayne, W.Va.; one brother, Norman Ramey and his wife Jolene of Wayne, W.Va.; one sister, Alma Lee Estep and her husband Gary of Branchland, W.Va.; one niece, Brittany Anna Ramey of Wayne, W.Va.; one grandmother, Alma Lee Clark of Huntington, W.Va.; her aunt Helen Norma Browning of Huntington, W.Va.; and a host of friends and family. The family would like to express a sincere thanks to Hospice, and a very special thank you to Pat Napier, who went out of her way to comfort Victoria with loving care. GOLDIE MAE RICE, 70, of Wayne, W.Va., Burial will follow in Community Memorial Gardens. Goldie was death, along with one grandson, Dalton Rice, and a special friend Tammy Workman.
Survivors include four daughters, Deborah Aliff and her husband Eddie of Wayne, W.Va., Angela Dalton and her husband Willis of Wayne, W.Va., Lisa Rector of Lincoln Co., and Annie Porter and her husband Timothy of Wayne, W.Va.; seven sons, John Rice and his wife Debbie of Wayne, W.Va., Dana Rice and his wife Michelle of Loganville, Georgia, Terry Tomblin and his wife Mary of Commerce, Georgia, Richard Tomblin and his wife Jeannie of Wayne, W.Va., Dewey Keith Tomblin and his wife Bonnie of Culloden, W.Va., Eddie Dean of Wayne, W.Va., and very special son Tom Smith and his wife Tammy of Wayne, W.Va.; 23 beloved grandchildren; two sisters, Barabara Poindexter of Huntington, W.Va., and Charity Stafford and her companion Sidney of Wayne, W.Va.; one brother, Ray Spencer of Columbus, Ohio; one special daughter, Suzie Ramsby; close friend and sister, Jennie Robinson; four daughters-in-law, Peggy Tomblin of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Regina Kennedy of Huntington, Beth Rice, and Dinkie Lambert; special neighbor Porky Porter of Wayne, W.Va., friend Glenna Cline; and additional friends and neighbors too numerous to mention. The family will receive visitors after 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home to help with final expenses.
FREDA MAE WHITT HAZELETT, 46, of Wayne, W.Va., Burial will follow in Mount Vernon death along with her mother, Freda Mae Vaughn, her grandfather, Pappaw Whitt, and her father-in-law, Buck Hazelett. She leaves behind her husband, Dale Hazelett of Wayne, W.Va.; one daughter, Amy Queen and her husband Brandon of Wayne, W.Va.; one son, Jeffrey Hazelett and his fiancé Audrey Johnson, both of Lavalette, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Brayden and Brycen Queen, of Wayne, W.Va., and Kailen Hazelett of Lavalette, W.Va.; Also surviving is her father, Clarence Buddy Whitt and his wife Carol of South Point, Ohio one sister, Emma McFeeley and her husband Dennis of Huntington, W.Va.; one brother Stephen Whitt and his wife Angela of Sarasota, Fla.; mother-in-law, Opal Hazelett of Lavalette, W.Va.; sister-in-law, Diana Kendeick of Lavalette, W.Va.; four nieces, Crista Kendrick, Gina Kendrick, both of Lavalette, W.Va., Stephanie Taylor and Melissa McFeeley, both of Huntington, W.Va.; four nephews, Denny McFeeley of Huntington, W.Va., Andrew Whitt, Adam Whitt, and Zach Whitt all of Sarasota, Fla.; special friends Violet Walters and Shelley Maynard both of Lavalette, W.Va.; and a host of friends and family. DOUGLAS KAY CROCKETT, 61, of Barboursville, W.Va., Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Burial will follow in the Maynard Burial will follow at Elmwood preceded in preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Vitura Adkins, one sister, Eva Lee Cuckler, and one cousin, Linville Adkins. Bobby served in the US Army during the Korean War and was an honor guard at the Tomb of Unkown Soldiers at Arlington. He was also an accomplished guitar player. Surviving are one daughter, Frances Marcum and her husband Bob of South Point, Ohio; three grandchildren, Vicki Bradley and her husband Don, Beverly Bailey and her husband Jay, John Conley and his wife Sidney; 11 great grandchildren, Tyler Crockett, D.J. Bradley, Danielle Bradley, April Conley, Morgan Conley, Jalyn Bailey, Lakin Bailey, Brayden Bailey, Wes Thompson, Wade Thompson, Rachel Bailey and her husband Drew; and one great-great grandson, Bryson Bailey. Also surviving are one sister, Virginia Porter, and four cousins, Oscar Adkins, Helen Holley, Jim Adkins, and Bill McDowell, all of Huntington, W.Va. As per his request, there will be no services. Johnson Tiller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. We will all miss seeing his smiling face!
