JAMES HAROLD ADKINS, 71, of Wayne, W.Va., preceded in marriage on April 4, 2009; devoted daughters Vickie Hill, Kimberly Wooten and Jamie Adkins; grandsons Darius Adkins, Kody Adkins and fiancee Lacey Moore, and Jason Blankenship and his wife Gwen; granddaughter Kayla Adkins and great-granddaughter Caylyn Rae Adkins (Poppy's Girl); two great-grandsons to be Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2009, at Johnson-Tiller Funeral Home, Wayne, with Jimmy Carter officiating. Burial will follows at Everett Adkins preceded in Burial will follow in Docks Creek death along with seven brothers, Orie, Virgil, Don, Bob, twin brother Woodrow, Onnie, and Tex Cline; and three sisters, Virgie Toler, Nellie Massey, and Corbie Cline.
Franklin was a retired coal miner who loved family and friends. He enjoyed bluegrass music and played various musical instruments. He also liked motorcycles, 4-wheelin, and playing on his dozer.
Survivors include two sons, Franklin Cline, Jr. of East Lynn, Samuel Cline and his wife Phyllis of Beech Fork; seven daughters, Marybell Kennedy and husband Randall, Deedra McMillion and husband Barry, Frances Burns and husband James, Selena Bell Baker, all of East Lynn, Darlene Bishop and husband Vincent of Simon, W.Va., Delores Kennedy and husband Robert of East Lynn, and Heather Moore of Richmond, Va.; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is one bother, Acie Cline and wife Wilma of Lynco, W.Va.; very special friend, Betty Adkins of Hamlin, W.Va., and a host of friends, family, and neighbors too numerous to mention.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Lester and Elder Ostes Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Vaughn Mills death along with three brothers, Wallace, Gartha, and Lewis Meade. Martha was a devoted wife and mother who loved gardening, crossword puzzles, and reading.
She is survived by her husband, Noah Kirk, Jr.; two daughters, Sondra Pelfrey of Huntington, and Geisha Miller and her husband Bill, of Huntington; three grandsons, Noah Blevins, Jesse Blevins, and Brody Pelfrey, all of Huntington; four great grandchildren, Aeris Blevins, Sophia Blevins, Benjamin Blevins, all of Oh., and Blaine Blevins of Huntington. Also surviving is one sister, Patsy Stroud of Breeden, W.Va., two brothers, Aley Meade of Earling, W.Va., and B.F. Meade of Princeton, W.Va., and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Friday, February 13, 2009 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Brother Phillip Stroud officiating. Burial will follow in the Baby Meade death along with two sisters, Joan Curnutte and Teresa Stamper, whom he now joins in heaven with the Lord.
He is survived by his wife Dotty Stamper; and one daughter, Terri Stamper. He is also survived by his mother, Hazel Stamper; two sisters, Linda Finley and her husband Lester, and Jean Sammons and her husband Don; three brothers, Ron Stamper and his wife Evelyn, Barry Stamper and his wife Sherry, and Charles Stamper; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Andy was a beloved father and husband and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2009 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Brother Donnie Wells and Rev. Everett Meddings officiating. Burial will follow in the Stamper Family death along with one brother-in-law, Leonard Hand.
Surviving is her husband of 44 years, Dewey R. Johnson of Wayne; one son, Greg Johnson of Ashland, Ky., and Gary Harrison; and one daughter, Deborah and Chad Tiller of Huntington; one brother-in-law, Robert Johnson and his wife Ann of Huntington and their family; two sisters-in-law, Delores Esque and her husband Roland, and Sandra Hand, all of Huntington, and their families; several cousins, including Pat Adams of Huntington; very special friends and caregivers, Julia Bernoski of Ceredo, W.Va., Theresa Bevins of South Point, Oh., Barbara Crosier of Proctorville, Oh., Deloris Adkins of Wayne, and Twila Richards of Lavalette, W.Va., as well as, Georganna Tucker, Pat Napier, Rhonda Davis, Felicia Vance, and Teresa Johnson with Hospice of Wayne and Huntington; and extended family and friends too numerous to mention.
Shirley graduated Huntington High School in 1953 and was a lifelong member of the 7Th Avenue Baptist Church. She worked at Appalachian Power Company from 1954-1965 in the Wheeling and Huntington labs. She and Dewey owned and operated 5th Ave. Coin Laundry through the 1970s, were co-owners of Ceredo Mortuary from 1980-1986, then founded and own Johnson Tiller Funeral Home in Wayne, through the present.
As a 7-year member of the Musical Arts Guild, Shirley sang Beethovens Ode to Joy with the Robert Shaw Orchestra and Choral which was performed in German as part of the Marshall Artist Series. In addition to singing, she was a talented accordion player and pianist. Additionally, she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sororities for over 50 years, having held all offices and chaired all committees, most recently with the Lambda Master chapter. She was a past member of the Pea Ridge Womens Club, Wayne Womens Club, and past President of the Wayne County Inter-Club Council, volunteering over 20 years to the organization.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Dillon officiating. She was death was two sisters, Stella Ratcliff and Laura Mae Stephens, along with two brothers, Austin Talbert and Thomas Talbert.
Survivors include her husband of 34 years, 4 months, and 13 days, Gary Knight; one sister, Beulah Chapman and her husband Douglas; four brothers, Arthur Talbert Jr. and his wife Yvonne, Donald Talbert and Mikalene Smith, Charles Talbert and his wife Violet, and William Talbert and his wife Connie, all of Wayne; special canine companions, Rachel Kathleen Knight and Buster Brown Knight; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Dillon officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
