Cynthiana journalist Emma Lou Wade also made ceramics, was civic leader
Emma Lou Withers Wade of Cynthiana was active in her community as a newspaper writer, a business owner and civic leader.
She wrote in the Log Cabin and the Cynthiana Democrat for 47 years, taking over for her mother. She was a former Harrison County American Cancer Society drive chairwoman. And for more than 20 years she was the owner of the Dish Shed, selling ceramics she made in a kiln.
Mrs. Wade, 81, died Thursday at her home after a long illness. She suffered a stroke about two years ago.
"People respected her, " said a daughter, Carolyn Mae Williams of Harrison County. "She was a good example for anybody who knew her."
She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church in Cynthiana.
Mrs. Wade was a former 4-H leader and a member of its advisory council. She was a former Farm Bureau secretary and Welcome Wagon hostess. She also was a former member of Southern States lady committee and Kentucky Blue Ribbon Farm Family.
"She was a very sweet, loving Christian person, " Mrs. Williams said. "I'm 52 years old and I never heard my mother cuss, never saw her smoke, drink or spank her children."
Other survivors include her husband, Robert L. Wade; a son, Donald Wade of Harrison County; daughters, Lois Ann Hounchell Simpson and Rita Wade Brogli, both of Harrison County; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.
Ruth Ankenbauer, 81, of Cincinnati, died Wednesday at her daughter's home in Florence. She was a former purchasing agent with J. J. Newberry Co., Cincinnati.
Survivors include her daughter, Dian Froelicher of Florence; a son, Larry Ankenbauer of Memphis; sisters, Dorothy Kelly of Crestview Hills and Helen Mussman of Park Hills; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Agnes Church, Ft. Wright. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Nancy F. Bell, 63, of Elsmere, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a cashier with Wal-Mart, Florence, and a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, Covington. She was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include her mother, Hazel Y. Bell of Elsmere; and a brother, Robert G. Bell of Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Cremation will be at Cincinnati Cremation Society.

Phyllis Bitter, 60, of Covington, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

James P. Bolling, of Taylor Mill, died at midnight Monday at Alois Alzheimer Center, Greenhills, Ohio.
He was a retired civil engineer with CSX Railroad and a member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia, and University of Kentucky Alumni Association. He was a volunteer with numerous fund drives for Thomas More College. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Sophia Bolling; sons, James P. Bolling of Jacksonville, Fla., and Christopher F. Bolling of Newport; daughters, Barbara Bolling Beimesch of Taylor Mill and Beth Bolling Joos of Harrison, Ohio; a sister, Sara B. Menyhart of Albuquerque; and eight grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Monday. Entombment will be Tuesday in Mother of God Mausoleum, Ft. Wright.

Audra Jean Moore Booth, 58, of Cincinnati, formerly of Bracken County, died Thursday at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati.
She was a homemaker and a member of Milford Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Booth; sons, Gary Long and Terry Long, both of Brooksville; a daughter, Cathy Jo Thompson of Indianapolis; brothers, Jimm Dale Moore and Jackie Wayne Moore, both of Brooksville; sisters, Jenneth Kay Liming of Bethel, Ohio, and Diana Joy Sharp of Brooksville; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bracken Memorial Cemetery, Brooksville.
Minnie Bunch, 90, of Covington, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at St. John Nursing Home in Covington.

Robert J. "Goose" Caldwell, 70, of Carrollton, died at 6:20 a.m. Thursday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Louisville.
He was a retired Administrative Sgt. Major in the Adjutant General's office, Frankfort, and a member of the National Guard and Carrollton United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War II and the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Terri Lewis Caldwell; daughters, Robin Caldwell of Chicago and Janifer McCord of Burlington; a sister, Patty Murry of Carrollton; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.
Ward K. Duncan, 82, of Warsaw, died Wednesday at University Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati. He was a retired master carpenter and a member of Warsaw United Methodist Church; Tadmor F&AM Lodge, Warsaw, and a former master of Scottish Rite, Covington. His wife, Helen V. Duncan, died in 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, Augustine Miller of Covington; sons, Donald O'Connor of Frostproof, Fla., Thomas Duncan of Warsaw and Dan Duncan of Grapevine, Texas; a sister, Marjorie Grobmeier of Carrollton; brothers, Ray Duncan of Florence and Howard Duncan of Warsaw; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery.
Alice Katherine Girdler, 76, of Carrollton, died Wednesday at University Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati.
She was a laborer and a member of Dean Memorial United Methodist Church, Carrollton. Her husband, William Marion Girdler, died in 1993.
Survivors include four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton, and from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Worthville Cemetery, Carrollton.
Floyd Moore, 84, of Falmouth, died at 6:15 p.m. Thursday at Harrison Memorial Hospital, Cynthiana.

Mary S. Warken Nader, 71, of Ft. Wright, died at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
She was a retired sales clerk with Blanks Drug Store, and owner of Mary's Ceramics in Covington and Ft. Wright. She also was a member of St. John Church, Covington; South Hills Civic Club and a captain of 404 Club and Hanser Homes bowling teams. Her husband, Pete Nader, died in 1976.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Wallet of Cincinnati; sisters, Ruth Hargis of Ft. Wright, Emma Warken of Covington and Norma Nelson of Cincinnati; and one grandchild.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Ft. Idella Marie Schnitzler, 64, of Alexandria, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. She was a bookkeeper for Schnitzler Carpet Co., Alexandria, and a member of Nazarene Church, Carthage.
Survivors include her husband, Gail Schnitzler; a daughter, Cathy Schnitzler of Alexandria; sons, Bobby Schnitzler of Zephryhills, Fla., and Danny Schnitzler of Alexandria; a sister, Janice McCormick of California; a brother, Ron Brickler of Alexandria; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Mentor. Memorials are suggested to the church.
John "Jack" Schoborg, 72, of Independence, died at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

Millie Snider, 76, of Ft. Wright, died at 8:12 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Ladies Auxiliary of Kelly Furnish VFW Post No. 7099, Covington. Her husband, Edward A. Snider, died in 1978. Her son, Carroll, died in 1944.
Survivors include daughters, Shirley Brown and Beverly Snider, both of Florence; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.
Harland V. Harkie Stephens, 80, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home in Cynthiana. He was a retired farmer and a member of Falmouth Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include sisters, Rosella Crouch of Covington and Hattie Humphrey of Highland Heights; and brothers, James Stephens of Butler, Dwayne Stephens of Dallas and Harry Stephens of Falmouth.
