Joe Smith

Joe Elton Smith, 77, of Sherman, “went to sleep in a hospital bed and woke up safe in the arms of Jesus, ” on Friday, December 8, 2006. Joe was the son of Mary Iva Walker and Joe Etheridge Smith. He was married Jessie Ann Dea on September 1, 1952, in Seymour, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years; two sons, Daniel Joe Smith and his wife Syl of Spring, Texas, and Jonathan Fred Smith of Englewood, Colorado; three daughters, Glenda Marie Perry and her husband Mike of Sherman, Lillian Ann Smith of Sherman, and Stephanie Gaye Switzer and her husband Perry of The Colony, Texas. Joe is also survived by two grandsons, Will and Andrew Perry of Sherman; and five granddaughters, Virginia, Victoria and Angela Perry of Sherman, Alyssa Switzer of The Colony, Texas and Jacqueline Reader of Slidell, Louisiana. Joe is survived by five brothers: Bob Smith of Millington, Tennessee, Henry Smith of San Angelo, Texas, Billy Smith and his wife Kathie of Frisco, Texas, Johnny Smith and his wife Darlene of Carrollton, Texas, and Jerry Smith and his wife Paula of Little elm, Texas. He is also survived by one sister, Mary Wright of Burleson, Texas; one sister-in-law, Pat Smith of Balmorhea, Texas, two brothers-in-law, Milton Dea of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Bob Cameron of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in Cemetery under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home.Daniel and Jonathan Smith, Mike and Will Perry, Perry Switzer and Tom Buttine will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob, Henry, Billy, Johnny and Jerry Smith; Milton Dea and Don Shoffit.
The family wishes to thank Home Hospice of Grayson County, and the Gamma Gamma Gamma Fraternity of Austin College who made it possible for Joe to remain at home in his own room until his born August 3, 1954 in Graham, Texas, where she grew up and attended school.
She death by her parents, Albert R. and Stella Reedy Carnley.
Mary was a former bookkeeper and had lived in Sherman for the past ten years.
She is survived by a daughter: Meshelle Holcomb and two granddaughters: Alicia (Allie) and Hanna.
She is also survived by brothers: David Carnley and wife Jonni of Hugo, Oklahoma, Boyd Carnley and wife Regina of Lake Kiowa, TX and Carl Carnley and wife, Kathryn; sisters: Kathryn Moss and husband, Larry of Sherman and Martha Burnett of Whitesboro, TX. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Mary Maedell Geist Hammonds

A celebration of life for Mary Maedell Geist Hammonds, 87, of Van Alstyne, Texas who born on January 27, 1919 in Mount Calm, Texas, the daughter of Stephen Horn and Nancy Blackburn Horn.
She attended schools in Acme, Texas, where she played basketball and was so exceptional that she received an offer to play for Quanah.
She death on February 1, 2001.
Mary was baptized in the Baptist faith and she had a very strong faith and belief which she passed onto her family by the example she gave. Throughout her life she worked in a number of vocations from cutting meat for Winegardens Market to cooking for the nuns and priests at a catholic school in California. Locally she worked cleaning houses and also at a dress shop in Sherman.
She was a member of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary in Sherman.
She was preceded in passed away peacefully on Monday, December 4, 2006 at her residence at Avalon residential Care Home in Dallas, Texas, after a long illness from Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes.
The graveside memorial service for Margie Lea Sherer will be at the West Hill born on August 19, 1930 in Lawrence, Kansas to her father Harvey Hearl Sherer and her mother Edna Gross Sherer.
Margie grew up in Gainesville, Texas. She graduated from Gainesville High School, Gainesville Community Junior College and from North Texas State University.
In 1971, Margie earned a post-graduate degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and was certified as a medical records administrator.
Margie had a long and productive career as a medical records administrator, having worked for Gainesville Memorial hospital, Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, the Texas State Department of Health, and Medical City Hospital of Dallas.
Margie Sharer’s final professional employment was a s Director of Medical Records at R.H.D. Memorial Hospital, Dallas, Texas, from which she retired several years ago after more that fifteen years of service.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents and by her beloved sister Kathryn Franks.
Margie is survived by her nephew: Kevin Franks and his children, Kelly Crystal Franks and Kyle Wayne Edward Franks and by Margie’s niece Kerri Robertson and her children, Robin Leann Robertson and Matthew Wayne Robertson. Margie is also survived by many cousins and friends who loved her, including MaryLou Lueb of Sherman, Jack Benbow of Houston, Guy Arrington of Dallas, John Beauduy of Dallas, Jean Griffin of Rockdale, Texas, Garry Gross of Arkansas, Claire Spearman of Benbrook, Texas, Louis Duane Gross of California, Loretta Rossien of Seabeck, Washington and Margie’s friend Betty Lou Henderson of Gainesville, Texas.
