Mary Pittman, 84, born May 21, 1922 in Commerce, Texas to Clyde B. Ketron and Lillian Craig Ketron. She moved to Van Alstyne in 1967 and established Greenbriar Charolais Farms and Mary Pittman's Tea House. She was a member of the Hurricane Creek Rotary Club, the Grayson County Republican Party and DAR.
Survivors are her daughters: DeAnn Cummings of Richardson; Robin Reynolds Burns and husband Bill of Fort Worth; Janet Cooley and husband James of Van Alstyne. Mrs. Pittman is also survived by her grandchildren; Steve Burns and wife Jamie; Tom Burns; Joanne Michgelson and jhusband Eric; Megan Tagert; Scott Cooley and wife Christina; Blake Cooley; Mary Cummings and husband Steve Bloomquist; Lizbeth Pomerlow and husband Pat; Robin Verwey and husband Andre; James Pittman and wife Tamara and 10 great-grandchildren. Loving caregivers are Lloyd and Ann Stewart; Vickie Barker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mary Pittman Scholarship Fund for Grayson County College c/o Independent Bank.
Irene Flora Jones

Services for Irene Flora Jones, 88, of Sherman who born on June 22, 1918 in Toronto, Ontario the daughter of George Edward Wall and Flora Brown Wall Her father born and she was raised by Malcom McGregor and her mother.
She was schooled in Canada but had to quit to help her parents support the family during Great Depression.
When she was thirty two years old she death and she moved to Sherman four years ago.
She is survived by her daughter: Bonnie Smith of Sherman and 2 grandsons: James Smith and Jason Smith.
Irene will be missed by nieces, nephews and cousins who reside in Toronto, and her special friends Josey and Chico of Sherman.
Mary Kathleen Johnson
Mary Kathleen Johnson, 61, of Sherman, born March 31, 1949 in Culver City, California to Richard Rarrick and Maxine Pickett Rarrick. She passed away on Friday, September 10, 2010 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital – WNJ. He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Acosta; three brothers: William Acosta of Denison, TX; Gary Acosta of Durant, OK, and Allen Acosta of Denison, TX; and five sisters: Alice Schotz of Tennessee, Janice Higgs of Tom Bean, TX, Karen Hoffman of Durant, OK, Nita Acosta of Sherman, TX, and Cindy Acosta of McKinney, TX. Memorial services will be held at Four Rivers Outreach, 210 S. Rusk, Sherman, TX at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 16, 2010.
Destini Nicole Trevathan - Hamm
Destini Nicole Trevathan-Hamm, 26-year-old Sherman resident, born January 2, 1984, in Sherman, TX, to Rusty Trevathan and Traci Gann Langley. She was raised in Tom Bean, Texas where she attended school. She has four beautiful daughters. Destini was a waitress at the Olive Garden Restaurant in Sherman, Texas.
Preceded in passed away at his residence on Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Memorial services for Jason will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Hagerman Baptist Church in Pottsboro. Reverend Neal Alexander will officiate. Services are under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home.

He was preceded in passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at Texoma Medical Center. Memoral services will be held on Friday, May 28, 2010, 2:00 pm at Dannel Funeral Home, with Reverend Neill Morgan officiating.
Margie was married Bedford F. Paulk in Texarkana, TX. Margie worked for several years at Katy Railroad in Denison and retired from Arco Oil Company of Dallas. She and Bedford moved to Sherman from Dallas in 1985. Bedford death were her parents; her husband; two brothers, Leonard Telford and Billy Hugh Telford; three sisters, Lucille Wakefield, Ima Belle Collier, and Rosemary Barkett. Surviving are her sister, Evelyn Cook; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Judy Telford; and many friends.
In addition to flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 322 W. Pecan, Sherman, TX 75092.
Judge R.C. Vaughan
Senior District Judge (retired) R.C. Vaughan, 94, of Sherman, Cemetery on Texoma Parkway.
Judge Vaughan was married Ona Sutherland of Winnsboro, a registered nurse at the Katy Hospital. They had been died on Dec. 19, 2006.
He enlisted in the Army as a private in 1942, then was accepted for training at the Army Counter Intelligence School and later was appointed a special agent with the CIC in South Texas, New Mexico, and the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific. While on the Island of Guadalcanal he was promoted to first lieutenant and later served as Judge Advocate in the Judge Advocate General Corps.
When he was discharged from the Army in 1946 he returned to his law practice with Hal M. Rawlins in Denison. In 1948 he was elected Judge of the Grayson Court at Law, then in 1952 he was elected judge of the 15th Judicial District Court and served in that office until his retirement in 1985, the longest tenure of any elected public official in Grayson County history. Even after retirement he was a “traveling judge, ” spending many days on the bench in Gainesville and Dallas.
In 1992 the Grayson County Law Library in the Sherman courthouse was named in his honor. Through the years he was active in many programs, including the Boy Scouts, the Optimist and Kiwanis clubs, Juvenile Board of Grayson County for 32 years, Juvenile Alternatives and was an organizer of the Grayson County Family Clinic. His service to the community stretches across many organizations throughout the county.
He was a past president of the Grayson County Historical Society, a member of the Grayson County Historical Commission and the Texas Historical Commission. He was a trustee of the Old Settlers Association, past president of Grayson County Frontier Village, a 50 year member of Lone Star Lodge 403, AF&AM; in Denison and held district and grand lodge positions.
In 1984 he was named chairman of the Grayson County Sesquicentennial Committee and in 1989 was chairman of the county’s bicentennial celebration and later co-chairman of the county Millennium Committee. In 1990 he was awarded the Outstanding Jurist Award by the Texas Bar Foundation.
Judge Vaughan began writing a weekly column in the Herald Democrat about Grayson County’s colorful history in 1985. Twenty-five years later, his column is still appearing in the newspaper and the number has grown to almost 1, 000 columns.
In 2007 the Herald Democrat and the Grayson County Millennium Committee co-sponsored the publishing of a book of his columns, “The Life & Times of Grayson County, Texas.” The book sold out in one month and has been reprinted.
The Judge was preceded in death by his wife Ona Sutherland Vaughan; one son, James Benton Vaughan; his parents, former County Commissioner Ben and Anna Vaughan; one sister, Inez Vaughan Hord; and his dear friend, Neilson Rodgers.
The family would like to thank his special caregiver, Nelda Burks of Sherman, for her kindness with Judge Vaughan.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Susan Vaughan of Sherman; four grandchildren, Chris Vaughan of Greenville, Laura Kesler and husband, Chris of Washington, D.C., Kristi Butler and husband, Cody, of Keller, and Elizabeth Porras of Dallas; six great-grandchildren, Austin and Emily Butler of Keller, Megan, Lauryn, Cody, and Shannyn Kesler of Seattle, WA; two special nieces, Donna Hord Hunt and husband, David, of Denison and Monna Hord Buckley and husband, Newton, of McKinney; and several other nieces and nephews.
