Dr. John Moseley
President Emeritus of Austin College and lifelong leader in the Presbyterian Church, Dr. John Dean Moseley, 93, born on November 17, 1915, in Greenville, Texas, to Ernest and Lillie Alexander Moseley. He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Jewel Moseley Rowe of Greenville, and Olive Moseley Mandrell of Austin.
Dr. Moseley graduated with a bachelor’s degree from East Texas State College in Commerce, a master’s and a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He worked in government first at the national level, serving in the Office of Price Administration and later at the Bureau of the Budget in Washington, D.C.. Governor Alan Shivers brought Moseley back to Texas in 1950 to create the Legislative Research Council, where he served as director for three years.
In 1953, Dr. Moseley took the unexpected step of becoming President of Austin College in Sherman, Texas. For twenty-five years, he brought to this liberal arts college his unique problem-solving approach, questioning mind, creativity and willingness to take risks; he is credited with the institution’s growth in enrollment, campus facilities, innovative curricula, and reputation so that Austin College today is a recognized leader in higher education circles nationwide. After his retirement as President in 1978, Moseley continued his involvement with Austin College, serving as Chancellor and Director of the College’s Center for Program and Institutional Renewal. Dr. Moseley was instrumental in the forming of Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas (ICUT) and in securing legislation to create the Texas Tuition Equalization Grant. Dr. Moseley received several honorary doctorates and numerous local, state, and national awards for his leadership in higher education, the community, and the church.
Dr. Moseley was active in the Sherman community, serving as president of the Chamber of Commerce, chair of the United Fund of Sherman, director of Goals for Sherman and the Consortium for Community Education Development, Inc. He was a member and ordained elder of Covenant Presbyterian Church (formerly First Presbyterian Church) since coming to Sherman in 1953. When declining health prevented his attending church, he and his wife worshipped with Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church of Dallas on WRR 90.1.
Dr. Moseley met his wife, Sara Bernice Honea of Anson, Texas, when they were both members of the Presbyterian Youth Council in the 1930s. He is survived by his wife of 68 years; their three children: Sara Caroline Moseley of Dallas; John Dean Moseley, Jr., and Alice Butler of Irving; Rebecca Moseley Gafford and her husband, Ron, also of Dallas; four grandchildren: Peter Junkin and his wife, Michelle, of Edmond, Oklahoma; Andrew Junkin and wife Lynn, of Broomfield, Colorado; Dr. Jennifer Gafford of Denver Colorado; and David Gafford and wife Giselle of Dallas; and five great-grandchildren: Amira and Samuel Junkin of OKC, Nicholas and Isabel Junkin of Colorado, and Dean Gafford, of Dallas; and nieces and nephews.
The family will be at home on Friday, March 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. A family service will be held in Dallas on Sunday, March 15; a public memorial service celebrating Dr. Moseley’s life will be held in Wynne Chapel at Austin College on March 24, at 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the John D. Moseley Alumni Scholarship Fund at Austin College, Suite 6G, 900 N. Grand Ave., Sherman, TX 75090 or the memorial fund at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 322 W. Pecan St., Sherman. TX 75090.
James Terry Paine
James Terry Paine, 66, of Sherman, interment at West Hill born August 10, 1942 in Sherman to J. B. and Velma Buchanan Paine. He attended Bryant Elementary School and graduated from Sherman High School. He was a self-employed salesman.
Preceded in passed away Thursday, February 5, 2009, at Texoma Healthcare. Arrangements are under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 9, at St. Stephens Episcopal Church at 11 a.m., with Rev. Martin Yost officiating.
Henry was married Frances Marie Jeffes in Austin. He was a business owner who specialized in small engines. He retired from the Dallas Times Herald.
He was a 32nd degree Mason, an endowed member of the Andrew Randell Lodge and a member of the Hella Temple Shrine.
Preceded in died April 8, 2009, in Brenham.
Mrs. Clark was passed away on Monday, March 30, at Medical Center of McKinney. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, April 3, at Dannel Funeral Home. Cemetery with Rev. Raymond England officiating. The family will be at the funeral home on Friday morning at 9 AM.
Elizabeth was married John Covey in Sherman, TX. They were death in 2000. Elizabeth began working at the S. H. Kress store in Sherman during high school and continued to work there after she was death by her parents, husband, brother, Raymond Shade, and sisters, Gladys Phares and Grace Moore. She is survived by a son, John Covey and wife Jean of Grapevine; two daughters, Susan Waller and husband Lamar of Leonard, Patricia McLaughlin and husband Robert of Cairo, Egypt; sisters Clara Hamilton of Orlando, FL, Joyce Carr of Whitesboro, and Beatrice Harbison of Sherman; two granddaughters, Melanie Covey, and Amy Stephens and husband Bill, two great grandsons, Caleb and Caden Stephens and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a host of friends.
We are truly grateful for the care she received at Autumn Leaves of Garland and the wonderful friends she made there.
Donald Morgan
Gordonville - Donald Leslie Morgan, 78, of Gordonville, Texas went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home.
Donald was death by his wife Karen, parents Arthur and Nellie Morgan and brother Eugene Morgan.
Memorial services will be at 11 AM, Monday, March 30, 2009 at the Willis Baptist Church in Willis, Oklahoma. Maylor Ward will be officiating.
Larry Mygrant
Larry Glen Mygrant, 72-years-old Sherman resident, funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday March 21, at West Hill born September 8, 1936, in Waupecong, Indiana, to Ralph and Lucille Sommers Mygrant. He was a graduate of Converse High School in Converse, Indiana and studied Business administration and Marketing at Lincoln Institute and Indiana University. He served in the 38th Infantry Division of the Indiana National Guard. He had more than 20 years of sales and manufacturing experience, most recently was employed with Reedrill Corporation in Sherman.
Larry was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He has served as director of Junior Achievement in Kokoma, Indiana, and as an advisor to the Sherman club. In Kokomo he was very active in other civic activities, including United Way of Howard County, the Chamber of Commerce, Little League coach, and the Board of Education of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Genee was the eldest of four children, death by her parents and brothers Lynn and Robert Carter both of Sherman.
Pallbearers will be Scott Carter, Kerry Shelton, Andy Trice, Fred Gunter, Axel Alvaradu, and Jeff Baron. Honorary pallbearers will be Adrian Demers and Gary Shaw.
The family will be receiving visitors on Monday from 7 until 9 p.m. at Dannel Funeral Home.
