Joe Merriman
Joe Wallace Merriman, death by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth “Beckie” Merriman, parents Krouth and Correlia Merriman, two sisters, Helen Corley and Chessie Adams, and a brother, K.O. Merriman, Jr.
He is survived by two sisters, Lonora Hayes of Dallas and Jane Gipson of Winnsboro; a brother, O.C. Merriman of Sherman; two daughters, Linda Wimbish and husband Wallace of Irving, and Glenda Clark of Garland; four grandchildren, Joe D. Clark and wife Deanne of Bonham, Sheri Dacon and husband Eric of Garland, Randy Clark and wife Julie of Granbury, and Keri Hawkins and husband Byron of Keller; ten great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, numerous relatives and friends, especially those members of Merriman Hills Baptist Church in Sherman where he was a founding member.
Joe enlisted in the Army Aircorps at age 23 and was inducted on December 8, 1941, the day after Pearl Harbor. He honorably served his country in World War II in both the Phillipine Islands and Okinawa. After returning home from military service, he spent his life farming like his father and grandfather before him. Some of his happiest times were spent plowing the earth and working the soil.
Joe and Beckie moved to Sherman in 1965. They kept busy with travel and church activities. Joe loved gardening and sharing the produce with friends and family. He was proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors on Monday evening from 5 until 7:00 p.m. at Dannel Funeral Home in Sherman. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 at Merriman Hills Baptist Church in Sherman. Cemetery in Dallas, Texas at 4:00 p.m.
Jimmie Highfill
Jimmie Brooks Highfill, 94, Cemetery west of Sherman on Jan. 7 at 10 a.m., with her son Brooks Highfill officiating.
Jimmie was married Brian Highfill in 1942. She worked in the shirt department of Pool’s Manufacturing from 1947-1979. She enjoyed crafts and really loved quilting. She made quilts for many people, including all her nieces. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, birds and all animals.
Jimmie was preceded in died in infancy; her husband Bryan and son Weldon Highfill; three brothers: Walter Brooks, Bill Brooks and Edward Brooks; four sisters: Jewel Smith, Morene Hall, Azell Hargrove, and Edna Tate. Survivors include her son Brooks Highfill and several nieces.
Jimmie will always be remembered and loved by her friends and family.
Warren G. Squires
Warren Glenn Squires Cemetery. Reverend Randy Reddell of Central Christian Church will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home.
Mr. Squires was married to Alice Carolyn Butts on June 15, 1946.
He attended high schools in Atchinson, Kansas and Denver, Colorado and continued his education at the University of Colorado and the University of Texas, at Austin, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering.
For the major portion of his professional career, Mr. Squires was employed by the Texas Power and Light Company, (now TU Electric) from 1950 to 1978.
He was division engineer in the Northern division of TP & L from 1954 until his retirement in 1978. Prior to 1950, he was employed by the Dallas Power and Light Company, North American Aviation Company, and a consulting engineering firm.
A resident of Sherman since 1954, Mr. Squires was an active member of the Central Christian Church, where he served as Deacon, Elder, Chairman of the Elders, Chairman of the General Board and Congregation, Trustee of the church, and Sunday School Teacher.
His professional affiliations included Life Memberships in the institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers.
He was also a member of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, where he was named by the Northeast Texas Chapter as “1972 Engineer of the Year”.
He was listed in Who’s Who in the South and Southwest in the 1975-76 edition.
He also served as a former president of the Northern Region Retirees Club of TU Electric.
Mr. Squires’ memberships in other organizations include the Sons of the American Revolution, Grayson County Historical Society, Texoma Outdoor Club, American Association of Retired Persons, Red River Historical Museum and the Sherman Community Players.
Mr. Squires and his wife Carolyn have been residing at the Renaissance for the past several years.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn, a sister, Katharine Prather of New Braunfels, one niece, Lynda Prather McLean and husband Mark, and one nephew, Wallace Brian Prather.

John Lewis Donihoo
On early Wednesday March 4, 2009 Papa John passed from this earth to his heavenly home. He Cemetery in Trenton, Texas. Officiating will be Rev. Donnie Fuller and Rev. Roger Spears.
Family night will be on Thursday, March 4, 2009 from 6 to 7:30PM at Dannel Funeral Home.
He was married Helen Juanita Howell in Texarkana, Arkansas.
They raised six children together and leave their legacy with their children and grandchildren who will follow on in their footsteps and join him someday. His wife Juanita preceded him in death by his parents, wife Juanita, son James Lewis (Pinky), grandsons David Lewis Page and Michael Page; brothers Coleman, Robert, Gene, Wayne and Kenneth; sister Marie Franklin.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law George and Marie Donihoo of Sherman; daughter and son-in-law Patsy and Ron Lewallyn of Sherman, TX daughters Kaye Rushing of Sherman, Faye Harper and Gail Lopez of Wake Village, TX; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren and his sister Louise Hendrix of Tom Bean.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Fuller, Donald Cato, Chris Cato, Jim Bob Donihoo, Josh Harper, William Harper; honorary pallbearers will be Marshall Shelby, Danny Shelby, Wayne Shelby and Stephen Fuller.
John Hardy Lawrence
John Hardy Lawrence, 91-year-old resident of Sherman, Interment will follow at West Hill born March 4, 1918, in the Hagerman Community, the son of Clarence and Nettie Siebman Lawrence. He attended school at Enterprise and Denison. On March 23, 1938 he death. He began his working career delivering milk from farmers to Kraft Foods. He also worked in maintenance for Ballard biscuit, later know as Pillsbury Biscuit Co., and he was a mechanic for Young Motors. He served on the school board in Pottsboro. He was a past member of Farm Bureau and a lifetime member of the Hagerman Baptist Church.
He was preceded in passed away on Sunday, April 12, at the Homestead in Sherman. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, April 15, at West Hill born on October 13, 1913, in Meridian, MS, to Ida Brown and Louis W. Hanner, Sr. He was educated in Meridian Public Schools, finishing high school in 1931. After working for a year, he entered Mississippi Baptist College in 1932, majoring in Chemistry, with minors in Mathematics and Physics. He graduated in 1937 and immediately began working for the Burroughs Adding Machine Co.
Louis continued working for Burroughs until he joined the US Navy, one month after the attack on Pearl Harbor. After four months of training at the US Naval Academy, he was commissioned as an Navy Ensign. Later he was sent to Purdue University for three months of naval electrical and diesel engine instruction. In March 1943, he arrived in Brisbane, Australia, on the staff of a naval amphibious group. He took part in Operation Cartwheel, as Gen. MacArthur invaded New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. He later served at Okinawa before returning home on December 24, 1945. On January 19, 1952, he death in 1998.
Louis was preceded in passed away Sunday, February 22, 2009, at Mullican Care Center. Arrangements are under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 25, at First United Methodist Church, with Dr. James Pledger and Dr. Tom Peel officiating. Cemetery.
The family will be at Dannel Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24.
Pallbearers will be Andy Waughtal, Dennis Teel, Clark Teel, Michael Teel, Raymond Teel and Jeffrey Mays with Jack Teel serving as honorary pallbearer.
Jackie was married Arlie David Teel, Jr. in Tulsa, and they enjoyed more than 57 years of marriage.
She was very actively involved with her family, church, and community. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Sherman, where she was active in the Adult Fellowship Class, the handbell choir, the mission committee, and United Methodist Women (having served as President and also Secretary-Treasurer). She was also a member of the Garden Club, Newcomers’ Club, Tuesday Literary Club, Bridge Club, Women’s Auxiliary of WNJ Hospital, Grayson County Republican Women. In addition, she had served as a Girl Scout Leader, Cub Pack Den Mother, and PTA President.
Jackie is survived by her husband; two sons: Dennis Teel and wife Helen of Irving, and Clark Teel and wife Ninette of Beaumont; two daughters: Leslie Teel of Garland and Laraine Waughtal of Olney; six grandchildren Michelle Lynn Salinas and husband Juan, Michael Wayne Teel, Angela Marie Howe and husband Craig, Jack Augustus Teel and wife Stacey, Charles Edward Walker Teel and Elisabeth Jacqueline Teel; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Waughtal and wife Ann of Stillwater, OK; a niece and a nephew.
