Latonia's Monta Pace, career saleswoman

Monta Pace of Latonia was always there to extend a hand - whether it was to her department store customers or the family members who called her mother, grandmother and great- grandmother.

"She could be strict at times, but she was always there to help everybody. She was very helpful, " said her son, Dennis Pace of Ludlow.

Mrs. Pace died Sunday night at Rosedale Manor in Covington. She was 84 years old.

A native of Covington, Mrs. Pace was a saleswoman with the Lazarus Department Store (formerly Shillito's) in downtown Cincinnati for about 25 years, much of that time in the hosiery department.

When she retired in the mid-1970s, she had more time to devote to one of her favorite pastimes: reading.

"She loved reading almost any kind of book she could get her hands on, " said Dennis Pace.

Mrs. Pace's husband, Fenton Pace, died in 1995.

Besides her son, Mrs. Pace is survived by five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home in Latonia. Visitation will begin there at noon Wednesday.

Burial will be in Highland cemetery in Ft. Mitchell.

Alyne Bolin Brown, 86, of Cynthiana, died Monday at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home in Cynthiana. She was a former teacher, a homemaker and a member of Cynthiana Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Robert Larry Brown of Harrodsburg; a daughter, Suzette Moore of Cynthiana; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.

Charlotte Mae Burnette, 71, of Warsaw, died at 7:25 p.m. Sunday at her home. She was a homemaker, a retired employee of Square D, Florence, and a member of Oakland Baptist Church, Glencoe.

Survivors include her husband, John James Burnette; daughters, Janice Lee Smith and Judith Fae Blevins, both of Dry Ridge, Connie Colleen Hughes Ogburn and Donna Gail Burnette, both of Warsaw; a stepdaughter, Doreen Jewel Miles of Dry Ridge; a stepson, Ernest Ray Burnette of Dry Ridge; brothers, Johnny Lee Self of Little Rock, Ark., and George Wilbur Self of South Hackensack, N.J.; sisters, Eloise Buno of Las Vegas, Norma Curtis of Dallas and Velma Haydon of Little Rock; 10 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Oakland Baptist Church, Glencoe. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Glencoe. Memorials are suggested to the church or the National Kidney Foundation.

Jack David Edgley, 47, of Alexandria, died at 6 a.m. April 6 at his home.

He was a disabled nurse with University Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati, and a member of St. Joseph Church, Camp Springs.

Survivors include a daughter, Amberly Edgley of Edgewood; his mother, Joanna L. Mahaney Edgley of Alexandria; a sister, Chris Bezold of Camp Springs; and brothers, Paul Edgley of Plains, Kan., Mark Edgley of Cold Spring, Joe Edgley and Scott Edgley, both of Alexandria.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Dobbling Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Mentor. Memorials are suggested to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 10901 Reed Hartman Highway, Cincinnati 45242.

Arthur Paul Graden, 65, of Apopka, Fla., formerly of Alexandria, died March 26 at Florida Hospital North in Altamont Springs, Fla. He was a dairy farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Graden; a daughter, Ardith Rosingnol of Charleston, S.C.; sons, Guy Graden of Jacksonville, Fla., Gregg Graden of Newberry, Fla., Brian Graden and Eric Graden, both of Apopka; a sister, Wilma Lee Goshorn of Highland Heights; brothers, James R. Graden of Cameron, Mo., and William E. Graden of Chiefland, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Services were March 29 at Loomis Funeral Home in Apopka. Burial was in Greenwood Cemeteryin Apopka.

Will Ed "Bill" Ison, 64, of Maysville, died Monday at Columbia Hospital in Maysville. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Mae Hill Ison; a son, George E. Ison of Mason County; daughters, Melissa M. Meadows of Maysville, Lena G. Dugan of Fleming County, Sara M. Barker of Bracken County and Angela D. Ison of Ewing; brothers, Denver Lee Ison and Matthew Ison, both of Sandy Hook, and Vernon Ison of Olive Hill; sisters, Iona Clevenger of Columbus, Ohio, and Elaine Hamilton of Mays Lick; and eight grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mays Lick Lighthouse Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick, and at noon Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Wedonia Cemetery.

Ellen Johnson, 72, of Hamilton, Ohio, died Sunday at her home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Clarence Johnson, died in 1978.

Survivors include sons, Lloyd Johnson of Cincinnati and Tony Johnson of Smith; daughters, Marie Sparks of Cincinnati, Linda Brown of Nevada, Martha Emery of Harlan, Wanda Weaver of Caywood, Christine LeMaster of Bledsoe, Ida Pace of Galstone, Ruth Duncan of Teetersville, Linea Wagner of Hillsboro, Ohio, and Billie Jo Caddell of Globe, Ariz.; a brother, Robert Williams of Bardo; 58 grandchildren and 90 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Free Pentecostal Holiness Church in Fairfax, Ohio. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. today to time of service Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Walnut Hills Cemetery, Cincinnati. Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, is handling arrangements.

John Anthony Repka, 74, of Independence, died at 2:55 a.m. Monday at his home. He was an order clerk with Dixie Wholesale Grocery and a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Independence. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita L. Taylor Repka; a daughter, Tillie Estreicher of Florence; sons, Mike Repka of Independence and Nick Repka of Walton; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Lung Association, 1113 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati 45227.

Louise Salmons, 86, of Erlanger, died at 5:44 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a former housekeeper with St. Benedict Church Rectory, Covington. She also was a former member of the church, of St. Mary Altar Society at St. Henry Church, Elsmere, and of the Grandmother's Club. Her husband, Elmer Salmons, died in 1962.

Survivors include a son, Gary Salmons of Edgewood; daughters, Shirley Brinkman of Crescent Springs, Nancy Due of Erlanger, Janice Hall of Park Hills and Kathy Stidham of Erlanger; 16 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Henry Church. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Elmer E. Smith, 67, of Erlanger, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired electrical maintenance worker with Wadsworth Electric Co., Covington.

Survivors include his wife, Rose E. Fredericks Smith; daughters, Peggy S. Dillion of Florence and Deborah L. Chihak of Crittenden; sisters, Louise Tupman of Florence, Mary McIntosh of Covington, Vivian Meyer of Cincinnati and Sheila Leiprecht of Elsmere; brothers, Milford Smith of Florence and Ray Smith of Edgewood; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Ralph Stamper, 88, of Crittenden, died today at St. John's Nursing Home, Covington.

Arrangements are pending at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge.

Lillie C. Warner, 77, of Lebanon, Ohio, formerly of London, died at 2:55 p.m. Sunday at Otterbein Retirement Center in Lebanon. She was a retired secretary with the U.S. Postal Service, Cincinnati. Her husband, Michael H. Warner, died in 1981.

Survivors include a son, Michael D. Warner of Dallas; a daughter, Beverly S. True of Middletown, Ohio; a brother, John Chadwell of Batavia, Ohio; sisters, Edna Minton of London, Rebecca Day of Cincinnati, Vergie Leytze of Cincinnati and Sara Graves of Georgetown, Texas; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimers Research Center, 231 Bethesda Ave., Cincinnati 45229.
