California's Leola Young, helped found Jolly school, fire department
Leola Young helped in the founding of several institutions in the Campbell County river town of California.
Her first ballot was cast in 1926 when she voted to establish the A.J. Jolly School, where she later served as PTA president. And she was one of the founders of the Eastern Campbell County Fire Department, becoming a lifelong member of the ladies' auxiliary.
Mrs. Young, 91, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East in Ft. Thomas.
"She was a sweetheart, " said her daughter, Orveda Dunn of California. "She was a great mother and grandmother. She was Grandma Young to everyone in California."
Mrs. Young lived in California on property her husband's family obtained in the 1700s. Her husband, Clyde B. Young, died in 1985. She lived alone until January, when she became ill.
A homemaker, Mrs. Young lived for her community and her church, said her daughter. She was an avid reader.
She experienced the Flood of 1937, which destroyed her father's home. Her home was spared from serious damage in the flooding this March, her daughter said.
Mrs. Young was a member of California United Methodist Church, where she served on the church council. She was a Sunday School teacher and the historical secretary at the church.
Other survivors include 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at California Christian Church. Visitation will begin there at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Mentor.

Edna Kuhn Bailey, 94, of Covington, died at 3:45 p.m. Sunday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher. She also was a former kitchen supervisor with the Kenton County Jail. Her husband, William Bailey, died in 1992.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Marianna Bockus Becker, 90, of Dry Ridge, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of St. William Church, Williamstown. She was a member of Boone County Homemakers.
Survivors include sons, George R. Becker of Fairfield, Ohio, John W. Becker of Louisville, Paul R. Becker of Petersburg, James A. Becker of Dry Ridge and Lawrence J. Becker of Indianapolis; daughters, Betty J. Foppe of Cincinnati, Rose M. Gorman of West Chester, Ohio, Nancy H. Roland of Rabbit Hash, Barbara J. Scott of Dry Ridge and Linda L. Raper of Covington; a sister, Helen Smyth of Rabbit Hash; 48 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Thursday at the church. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum in St. Bernard, Ohio.

Mary "Marty" Felice Broderick, 67, of Ft. Mitchell, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired service representative with Cincinnati Bell Telephone.
Survivors include her husband, Emmett Broderick; and a brother, A. J. Felice of Erlanger.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Ft. Mitchell. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum, Ft. Mitchell.

Joseph P. Dwyer, 77, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., formerly of Covington, died April 3 in Hilton Head. He was a former employee of WLWT-TV, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Nahrup Dwyer; daughters, Kathi Woods and Michele Deede, both of Atlanta, and Kristine Berger of Los Angeles; a son, Kerry Dwyer of Los Angeles; and eight grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial was April 5 at St. Francis by the Sea Church in Hilton Head. Burial was in St. Francis by the Sea Cemetery, Hilton Head.

Kathi Ann Fowee, 39, of Edgewood, died Saturday at her home. She was a massage therapist at Bangz Salon in Edgewood and a team mother with the Northern Kentucky Youth Football League.
Survivors include her husband, Tom Fowee of Edgewood; sons, Dusten Fowee and Tommy Fowee, both of Edgewood; her parents, James and Alberta Sipple of Tipp City, Ohio; a brother, Jerry Crawford of Murray; and sisters, Pat Wilson of Highland Heights, Diane Willoughby of Burlington and Angela Combs of Florence.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Evergreen Mausoleum, Southgate.

William R. Goodridge, 44, of Elsmere, died at 9:28 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a disabled Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and a volunteer at Veterans Administration Hospital, Cincinnati.
Survivors include a daughter, Jamie Goodridge Thomas of Florence; a sister, Barbara Goodridge of Cincinnati; and one grandchild.

Andrew R. Henry, 57, of Maysville, died Friday at his home. He was a machinist with Western Paper Products, Cincinnati, and a member of St. James Church, Minerva. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

L. Paul Kelly, 78, of Villa Hills, died at 12:10 p.m. Monday at Rosedale Manor Nursing Home, Covington. He was a retired owner of Howard's Union 76 gas station on Fifth Street in Covington. He also was a member of Covington Elks, Covington Moose and Sunday Morning Clubs; Kenton County Boys/ Girls Club and St. Vincent De Paul Society. He was an Army Veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mary B. Flynn Kelly; a son, Dan Kelly of Ft. Mitchell; daughters, Brenda Augustin of Cincinnati, Mary Stevens of Ft. Mitchell, Colleen Kramer of Ft. Wright and Nancy Kelly of Villa Hills; brothers, Frank Kelly of Cincinnati and Cyril Kelly of Latonia; and 11 grandchildren.

Helen "Mam" Worstell Landau, 96, of Ludlow, died at 6:10 a.m. Monday at Deer Park Care Center in Silverton, Ohio. She was a stenographer and clerk-typist for the quartermaster stationed in Ft. Thomas during World War II.
She also was an employee of Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow, and a member of Ludlow Senior Citizens; First Presbyterian Church, Ludlow, and a volunteer with American Heart Association.
Survivors include a son, James V. Murphy of Cincinnati; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

James Arley LaPradd, 60, of Dry Ridge, died Monday at Veterans Administration Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a retired mechanic with Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky and an Air Force veteran. He also was a member of Disabled American Veterans and an honorary mem ber of TANK Credit Union.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Louise Vaughn LaPradd; a son, Kenneth Lee LaPradd of La Grange; daughters, Lavonne LaPradd, Sara Jo LaPradd and Lana Louise LaPradd, all of Dry Ridge; a brother, Kenneth Wayne LaPradd of Henderson; sisters, Sharon Decker of Smith Mills and Beverly Ann Fritts of Knoxville.

William H. Martin III, 65, of Covington, died Sunday morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a former music teacher at Lincoln-Grant School and at Holmes High School. He was a former executive director of the Northern Kentucky Community Center and field supervisor for the Northern Kentucky Office of the Kentucky Commission of Human Rights. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Covington.
Survivors include a daughter, Tonya Martin of Covington; and sisters, Mary Alyce Baughman and Willan Jenkins, both of Cincinnati.

Lois Janet Myers, 64, of Dry Ridge, died Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a retired Realtor with Bradley Weaver Associates.

Daniel Issac Powell, 49, of Erlanger, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired assembly technician with General Motors, Cincinnati, and a member of Gathering Place Church, Florence. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.

William George Young, 57, of Floyds Knobs, Ind., formerly of Dayton, died Saturday at his home. He was owner of Valu Market in New Albany, Ind. He was an Army veteran, a member of the Indiana Retail Grocers Association, the New Albany Elks Lodge and served on various other supermarket boards. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Floyds Knobs.
Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn Wallen Young; a son, Jeff Young of Edgewood; daughters, Kim Zembrodt, Karen Haubner and Jenny Young, all of Edgewood; a stepson, Ryan Leach of Floyds Knobs; stepdaughters, Heather Leach and Jessica Leach, both of Floyds Knobs; sisters, Maureen Myers of Ft.
