Ferry pilot James A. Bond, of Ghent
James Andrew Bond wanted to go out in style.
So, at his request, eight women will serve as pallbearers for the retired Ghent ferry pilot.
"If he was going to go out, he was going to go out on the arms of eight pretty women, " said his daughter, Barbara Taylor, of Louisville.
"It was his directive."
Mr. Bond, 77, died Tuesday at King's Daughters Hospital in Madison, Ind.
He was the former owner of Bond's Marathon Station in Ghent.
Then he became the pilot of the Martha A. Graham-Ghent and Vevay Ferry, which operated on the Ohio River.
He retired from the job when a bridge was built across the Markland Dam in 1978, his daughter said. Mr. Bond became a custodian with Kentucky Utilities Ghent Generating Station.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
"He was a colorful local guy, " Mrs. Taylor said. "He was a historian for Ghent, Ky., population 400. I believe he even was the mayor of Ghent for awhile."
In his spare time, Mr. Bond enjoyed making wine. He had his own label, "Ruptured Duck, " and gave the bottles away to his friends, his daughter said.
Other survivors include a son, Robbie Bond of Bowling Green; and three grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Church, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton.
Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton. Memorials are suggested to the church, 507 Fifth St., Carrollton, Ky., 41008.
Francis Cammack, 73, of Worthville, died Tuesday at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville. He was a deacon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Perry Park, and a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Jackson Cammack.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street in Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery, Owenton. Memorials are suggested to the church.
R. B. Dixon, 61, of Erlanger, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Arrangements are pending at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence.
Helen M. Galliher, 64, of Covington, died at 12:16 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was a homemaker. Her husband, John Galliher Sr., died in 1993.
Survivors include sons, Robert A. Galliher of Cincinnati, Dennis W. Galliher of Port Huron, Mich., Larry J. Galliher of Demossville, Adam Galliher of Townsend, Mont., Harrison S. Galliher, John Galliher Jr., Bo Galliher and Ronald Galliher, all of Covington; daughters, Gladys Combs of Morningview, Frances Galliher of Cincinnati, Diane Davis and JoAnn Huffman, both of Covington, and Susan Jean Brewer of Tampa, Fla.; a brother, Jack Fazzio of Ohio; 38 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Charles Allan "Hoop" Hamilton, 99, of Big Bone, died at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. He was a retired farmer.
Survivors include a sister, Susan Rich of California.
Services will be at noon Friday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Big Bone Cemetery, Union.
Ruth O'Dell Hewlett, 85, of Ft. Wright, died at 12:55 p.m. Tuesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Florence Christian Women's Group. Her husband, Luther B. Hewlett, died in 1994. Her daughter, Joan Williams, died in 1996.
Survivors include her sister, Mary Robertson of Roanoke, Va.

Katie P. Hipsher, 68, of Cincinnati, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Wednesday at her home. She was a retired teacher in the Covington Inde pendent School System and a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include her husband, Sam Hipsher; a daughter, Karen Hipsher of Cincinnati; brothers, Calvin Payne and Lou is Payne, both of Los Angeles; and a grandchild.

Micha Lea McMillan, 4 months, of Batavia, Ohio, died Tuesday at his home.
Survivors include his parents, Brandon and Mary McMillan; a sister, Whitley McMillan at home; paternal grandparents, Robert and Lois McMillan of Cold Spring, and Donna and Ed Waag of Loveland, Ohio; and maternal grandparents Harry Parvin of Mt. Carmel, Ohio, and Shirley and Tom Miller of Milford, Ohio.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will begin there at 12:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Gardnersville Cemetery.
Edward Albert Metz, 95, of Highland Heights, died Wednesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights. He was a retired time keeper with the old Cincinnati Times-Star. His wife, Marcella Metz, died in 1962.
Survivors include a son, William Charles Metz of Newport; a daughter, Dorothy Wetterick of Dayton; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a great- great-grandchild.

Robert J. Pendery, 80, of Dayton, died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday at his home. He was a retired pressman with the Cincinnati Enquirer and a member of the Cincinnati Woodcarvers Association. He also was a member of St. Xavier Church, Cincinnati, and the Cincinnati Press man's Union Local 20. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Kelly Pendery; sons, Richard Pendery of Crestview Hills and Roger Pendery of Dayton; sisters, Rita Phelps of Dayton and Joan Klare of Melbourne; and a brother, Jack Pendery.

Bertha Hickman Perkins, 64, of Highland Heights, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. She was a self-employed demonstrator.
Survivors include her husband Gerald Perkins; daughters, Jocelyn Couch of Melbourne and Sandy Eaten of Grants Lick; a stepson, Randy Perkins of Cold Spring; stepdaughters, Marsha Reinzen of Florence, Melodie Stephens of Garden Grove, Fla., and Jerri Perkins of Brown County, Ohio; a sister, Thelma Massingale of Ft. Thomas; and 13 grandchildren.

Mary Louise Schmitz, died at 5:40 a.m. Wednesday at Highlands of Ft. Thomas. She was a secretary and a member of St. Therese Church and its Altar Society. She also was a member of the Covington Art Club.

Minnie Lois Stewart, 61, of Falmouth, died Monday at her home. She was the retired owner of Stewart's Ambulance Service, Falmouth, and a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Butler. Her husband, Frank Stewart, died in 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Newkirk of Falmouth; sons, David Earl England, Mark England and Frank Patrick Stewart, all of Falmouth; a stepdaughter, Janice Wiggins of Falmouth; her parents, Alvah and Louella Johnson Moorhead of Brooksville; brothers, Bobby Moorhead and Ronnie Moorhead, both of Brooksville, and Tommy Moorhead of Germantown; sisters, Bertha Jones of Brooksville and Wilma Williams of Falmouth; and eight grandchildren.
Services were today at Falmouth Wesleyan Church. Burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Pendleton County. Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, is handling arrangements.
JoAnn Strange, 56, of Falmouth, died Wednesday in a single-car accident on U.S. 27 south of Falmouth.
Arrangements are pending at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Myrtle Blaker Wilson, 89, of Hebron, died at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a retired secretary with the Procter & Gamble Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Hebron Baptist Church. She also was a Sunday school teacher at Hebron Baptist and Sand Run Baptist churches. Her husband, Howard Watson Wilson, died in 1995.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sand Run Baptist Cemetery, Hebron. Memorials are suggested to the churches.
