Rose L. Greene, longtime nurse

Rose L. Greene loved babies and small children and made them her vocation early, and later, in her life.

A former nurse, Mrs. Greene, 86, of Florence, died Friday afternoon at Woodspoint Geriatric Care Center, Florence.

Mrs. Greene and her husband, Gilby Greene, were married for 58 years. He served for many years on Florence City Council and is a retired principal of Turkeyfoot Junior High School.

A native of Georgetown who was reared in Owen County, Mrs. Greene studied nursing at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, where she also worked, said her daughter, Jane Piercefield. Her mother also worked at Children's Hospital in Cincinnati, and in Frankfort, Mrs. Piercefield said, and after taking off for several years to be a mother to her own children, she returned to nursing at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North.

"Children and babies were a specialty. It's what she loved. She worked with newborns and with premature babies, " said Mrs. Piercefield.

Her mother's decision to leave home and attend nursing school in Ohio was something of a departure from the norm of her time, Mrs. Piercefield pointed out.

Mrs. Greene was very active over the years within the Florence Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school for 30 years, her daughter said, and was also a longtime member of the Womens' Missionary Union and the Ladies' Circle.

Other survivors include a daughter, JaNelle Lopresti of Edgewood; a son, Gary Greene of West Bloomfield, Mich.; a sister, Louise Rose of Owenton; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Mausoleum, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to the church, 283 Main St., Florence 41092, or Alzheimers Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Cincinnati 45203.

Louise B. Beyers, 89, of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Sanders, died Friday in Florida. She was a retired teacher and a member of Main Street Baptist Church in Leesburg.

Survivors include her husband, Wilbur C. Beyers; a daughter, Anita Henry of Powell, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Warsaw Cemetery. Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw, is handling arrangements.

Charles Richard Clark, 37, of Covington, died Monday at his home. He was an employee of Fastemp Inc., Newport, and an Army veteran.

Survivors include a son, Charles R. Clark of Franklin, Pa.; his mother, Margaret McGinnis of Dayton; and a sister, Laura Lee McIntosh of Newport.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Dayton National cemetery in Dayton, Ohio. Alexandria Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Mary Lou Work Dills, 65, of Dry Ridge, died at 2:10 p.m. Saturday at her home. She was a retired inventory worker with Levi Strauss Co., Florence, and a member of Dry Ridge Baptist Church and Levi's Retirees Club, Florence.

Survivors include a daughter, Pam Rayburn of Bean Station, Tenn.; a brother, Andrew Work of Dry Ridge; and sisters, Eloise Adams of Dry Ridge, Freda Adams of Crittenden and Esther Gray of Pewaukee, Wis.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral home, Williamstown. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery.

David A. Harris, 94, of Covington, died at 9:25 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. He was a retired electrician with Miami International Airport and an Army and Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Marcella C. Shoemaker Harris; a brother, Joseph Harris of Deland, Fla.; and sisters, Jeanne Markowitz of Urbana, Ohio, and Mary Cooper of Findlay, Ohio.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials are suggested to Parish Kitchen, 143 Pike St., Covington 41011. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Ruth L. Horton, 74, of Ludlow, died at 5:40 a.m. Saturday at Gallatin County Health Care Center, Warsaw. She was a member of Sts. Boniface and James Church, Ludlow, and Ludlow Senior Citizens. She was a member of Women's Army Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include her husband, George G. Horton; sons, Melvin Horton of Washington, D.C., and Bill Horton of Florence; daughters, Linda Adams of Ludlow and Kathy Jones of Florence; a sister, Mary Ellen Buchheit of Alexandria; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Fairhaven Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 761, Covington 41012-0761.

Allen Kelley Sr., 58, of Covington, died at 6 p.m. Friday at St. John Health Care Center in Covington. Arrangements are pending at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Independence.

Estil McAllister, 68, of Carrollton, died Saturday at his home. He was a mechanic with Craig's Hardware Store, Carrollton. His wife, Margaret Jo McAllister, died in February.

Survivors include a son, Estil Dwayne McAllister of Worthville; his mother, Alyene Elizabeth McAlister; a brother, Sterling McAllister of Smithfield; and a sister, Deloris Jean Sharp of Turners Station.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.

Jack McKibben, 85, of Ft. Mitchell, died at 10:55 a.m. Friday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. He was a retired real estate broker and owner of Kentucky Home Realty. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Scottish Rite. He was a member of Kentucky Realtors' Board.

Survivors include his wife, Sadie McKibben; sons, Glenn McKibben of Erlanger and Dale McKibben of Cincinnati; brothers, Robert McKibben of Ft. Thomas, Charles McKibben of Highland Heights and Chester McKibben of Ft. Mitchell; sisters, Florence Ruth McKibben and Mabel Ward, both of North Carolina, and Gladys McKibben of Highland Heights; and three grandchildren.

Services were this morning at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 1885 Dixie Highway, Suite 250, Ft. Wright 41011.

Margie S. Moore, 66, of North Vernon, Ind., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died at 2:23 p.m. Saturday at her home. She was a retired security receptionist for Procter & Gamble. She was a member of Latonia Baptist Church and Scipio Baptist Church, North Vernon. Her husband, Donald Moore, died in 1968.

Survivors include daughters, Tonya Kordenbrock of Covington, Kimberly Proffitt of North Vernon, Ind., and Gina Kaiser of Ludlow; a son, Tim Moore of Covington; sisters, Juanita L. Burns of Arlington, Va., and Betty Perry of Independence; brothers, Edwin E. Bales of Cincinnati and Rodger Bales of Independence.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Robert William O'Hara, 58, of Corinth, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. He was a farmer and founder of Mike's Auto Salvage in Corinth. He was a member of St. William Church, Williamstown.

Survivors include his wife, Delores J. Halfill O'Hara; sons, Mike O'Hara of Corinth and Pat O'Hara of Crescent Springs; a daughter, Darlene O'Hara of Ft. Mitchell; his mother, Luvenia Ballenger O'Hara of Corinth; a brother, Eddie O'Hara of Hayes, La.; sisters, Mary Ann Cook of Williamstown and Betty Jo

O'Hara of Tulsa, Okla.; and six grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Visitation will be 6 to 9 tonight at Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church building fund, 8 Church St., Williamstown 41097.

Stephanie Scheepens, 83, of Ft. Wright, died at 2:35 a.m. Friday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. She was a retired employee of Goetz Candy Co. and a charter member of St. Dismas Church in Gurnee, Ill. She was a member of the church Altar Society.

Survivors include a son, James Scheepens of Seattle; a daughter, Carrie Brueggemann of Ft. Wright; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family at Salata Funeral Home in Gurnee, Ill. Memorials are suggested to the nursing home, 500 Farrell Dr., Covington 41011. Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington, is handling local arrangements.

Sally A. Schmidt, 87, of Ludlow, died at 11:50 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Richard Schmidt, died in 1961.

Survivors include daughters, Mary Ann Hoyeler and Janet Sue Henry, both of Ludlow; a brother, Jack Bailey of Houston; sisters, Evelyn Sims of Ludlow, Dorothy Stodsgill of St. Augustine, Fla., and Hattie Jones of New Albany, Ind.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Mary Margaret Schmitt, 95, of Warsaw, died Saturday at Gallatin County Health Care Center in Warsaw. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Church, Warsaw. Her husband, William Schmitt, died in 1978.

Survivors include a son, William H. Schmitt Jr. of Warsaw; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Warsaw.

Elyzabeth Ann Ward, 2, of Falmouth, died Sunday at her home after an extended illness. Survivors include her parents, Jeff and Theresa McDowell Ward.

Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.

Edith Wheelwright, 83, of Erlanger, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at her home. She was a retired cashier with Hilton Hotels and a member of Erlanger Christian Church.

Survivors include sons, Arthur Wheelwright of Erlanger and Richard Wheelwright of Iowa City, Iowa; a sister, Wilma Schroeder of Greeland, Miss.; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church, Graves Ave. and Home, Erlanger 41018, or to charity. Don Catchen and Son Funeral home, Elsmere, is handling arrangements.

Mildred J. Hathcock Winters, 79, of Ft. Thomas, died at 5:50 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East in Ft. Thomas. She was a homemaker and a volunteer with Ruth Moyer and Highlands schools. She was an Honorary Lifetime Member of Ft. Thomas Parent Teacher Association. Her husband, Jack L. Winters, died in 1984.

Survivors include a son, Philip Winters of Ft. Thomas; a daughter, Patricia Collins of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Jack Hathcock of Bellevue; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Evergreen cemetery Chapel, Southgate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U.S. 42, Suite C6, Florence 41042. Dobbling Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas, is handling arrangements.

Winston Trigg "Rusty" Worthington, 70, of Louisville, formerly of Mason County, died Saturday at Columbia Audubon Hospital in Louisville. He was a retired truck driver with Smith Transfer, Louisville, and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Hughes Worthington; a daughter, Diane Richardson of Louisville; a son, Winston Scott Worthington of Louisville; sisters, Helen Dean Worthington of Frankfort and Caryl Conger of Blacksburg, Va.; a brother, Fred D. Worthington of Fairborn, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery, Mason County. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U.S. 42, Suite C6, Florence 41042.
