Charlene Morrison, special-ed teacher
Charlene Miller Morrison of Newport was a longtime elementary school teacher who felt obedience was the key to a child's education.
Mrs. Morrison, died Wednesday at Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport. She was a homemaker and a teacher with the Covington Independent School District and Hickory Grove Baptist kindergarten.
In mid-career, Mrs. Morrison became a special-education teacher.
"She went back to school and did special-ed so she could deal with all types of kids, " said a son, Mike Morrison of Independence.
Mrs. Morrison taught a voluntary religion class at Fifth District School. Then she went to Hickory Grove Baptist Church, where she taught preschool and kindergarten.
She enjoyed crafts, sewing, church and being with her family.
"She was the mother and wife that everyone should want, " her son said.
She was a member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church in Independence. Her husband, Rev. James W. Morrison, died in 1990.
Other survivors include a son, Dr. Jim W. Morrison of Dallas; sisters, Dorothy Benter of Covington and Jean Grizzel of Dayton, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Visitation will begin there at 8 a.m. Saturday. Entombment will be in Evergreen Mausoleum, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Georgetown College Scholarship Fund, 400 E. College St., Georgetown 40324, or the church, 19169 Taylor Mill Road, 41051. Lena Bonar Bay, 86, of Dover, died Tuesday at Columbia Hospital, Maysville. She was a homemaker. Her husband, George Leland Bay, died in 1984.
Survivors include daughters, Dorothy J. Wood of Dover and Judy C. Schmudde of Alexandria; sons, Donald K. Bay of Vanceburg and Ernest D. Bay of Lynchburg, Ohio; a brother, Jess Bonar of Indiana; 11 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Johnsville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 1885 Dixie Highway, Suite 250, Ft. Wright 41011.
Juanita Blagg, 71, of Highland Heights, died at 4:55 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was owner of Juanita's Shop beauty salon in Ft. Thomas, and a volunteer at Veterans Administration Nursing Home, Ft. Thomas. She was a member of John R. Little VFW Auxiliary Post No. 3186, Southgate.
Survivors include sisters, Dorels Smith of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Dale Samples of Anchorage, Alaska.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to VFW Cancer Fund.
Robert Lee Cave, 76, of Hebron, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron.
Bettie T. Conrad, 76, of Burlington, died Tuesday at Dillsboro Nursing Home in Dillsboro, Ind. She was a retired secretary with the law office of Ed Monroe in Falmouth, and a member of Falmouth Christian Church. Her husband, Arnold Conrad, died in 1963.
Survivors include sons, Tom Conrad of Indianapolis and David Conrad of Burlington; a daughter, Kathy Conrad Cole of Versailles; a sister, Ruth Ann Moore of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth. Memorials are suggested to the church, 303 W. Shelby St., Falmouth 41040.
Florence J. Diedenhofer, 71, of Erlanger, died at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Bellevue.
Survivors include daughters, Ruth Bartlett and Sueann Willingham, both of Erlanger; a son, Charles Diedenhofer of Erlanger; sisters, Betty McCarty of Chicago, JoAnn McCaughan of Florence and Dorothy Bohnert of Covington; a brother, John Martin of Covington; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Helen Gagle, 73, of Ludlow, died at 10:08 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Hospice Unit, Covington. Arrangements are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.
Bina Sparks Hobbs, 94, of Aurora, Ind., formerly of Grant County, died at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Woodland Hills Care Center in Lawrenceburg, Ind. She was owner of Hobbs General Stores in Quercus Grove, Ind., and in Aurora. Her husband, George W. Hobbs, died in 1971.
Survivors include a daughter, Lorene Howell of Williamstown; a son, Raymond Hobbs of Cincinnati; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Robert E. Lawrence, 71, of Carrollton, died Tuesday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton. He was a retired deputy director of the Kentucky Bureau of Rehabilitation Services and a member of St. John Church in Carrollton. He was a member of National Rehabilitation Association and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He also was an Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Bess Ashby Lawrence; daughters, Kelly Ann Lawrence and Kimberly L. Lawrence, both of Carrollton; a son, Robert E. Lawrence II of Carrollton; and four grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home in Carrollton. Burial will be in Asby-Lawrence Cemetery, Carroll County.
Edith Martin, 92, of Ft. Thomas, died Wednesday at St. Joseph Hospital, Atlanta. She was a former freshman dorm mother at Morehead State University and a member of First Christian Church, Ft. Thomas.
Survivors include a son, Doug Martin of Irving, Texas; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas. Visitation will begin there at noon Saturday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to the church, 1031 Alexandria Pike, Ft. Thomas 41075.
Floyd Allen McBurney, 70, of Sanders, died Tuesday at his home. He was a farmer and a member of Dean Memorial United Methodist Church, Carroll County. He was a past master of Carrollton Lodge No. 134 F&AM, and a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Covington Royal Arch Chapter in Carrollton. He was treasurer and a member of Worthville Volunteer Fire Department and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include brothers, Robert McBurney of Carrollton, James Edward McBurney of Tamalis, Calif., and Lawrence Thornton McBurney of Hewitt, Texas; and a sister, Loreen Lusby of Madison, Ind.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ghent Masonic Cemetery.
Gerald A. McCall, 55, of Cincinnati, formerly of Erlanger, died Tuesday at his home. He was a retired boiler operator for Cincinnati Water Works.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Herzog McCall; a daughter, Melissa Marie Palmer of Tucson, Ariz.; sons, George Frederick McCall and Jarrard Allen McCall, both of Cincinnati; a brother, James McCall of Cincinnati; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.
James S. Med, 90, of Ft. Wright, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a retired employee of General Electric, Cincinnati, and a member of New Thought Unity Church, Cincinnati. He was the 1933 Ohio Handball Champion and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Nelson Med; daughters, Demeris Moeves of Ft. Wright, Cheryl A. Deglow of Cincinnati and Yvonne Bonnie Binkley of Florence; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the church. A reception will follow services at the church. Arnold Nantz, 64, of Dry Ridge, died at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired truck driver with Nutone Inc., Cincinnati, and a member of Shiloh Community Church, Grant County. He was a deacon, song leader and Sunday school teacher with the church. He also was a member of Nantz Family Gospel Singers.
Survivors include his wife, Dora Scott Nantz; sons, Dewyene Nantz, Jeff Nantz, Mitch Nantz and Jason Nantz, all of Dry Ridge; daughters, Darlene Carrig and Deana Wilson, both of Dry Ridge; a brother, Jimmy Nantz of Richwood; a sister, Bessie Martin of Glasgow; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at noon Friday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to the church, Shiloh Road, Corinth 41010.
Robin Lillian Reed, 33, of Williamstown, died at 9:35 p.m. Monday in Florence of injuries suffered in an automobile accident. She was a computer operator with ChoiceCare, Cincinnati, and a member of St. William Church, Williamstown.
Survivors include her husband, James Wesley Reed; daughters, Bobbie Jo Reed, Danielle Reed, Casey Reed and Kory Reed, all of Williamstown; her father, John L. Evans of Cape Coral, Fla.; and sisters, Lelou Serenko of South Fork, Pa., Terry Burdett of Twentynine Palms, Calif., and Debbie Brown of Salix, Pa.

Hazel M. Rhodes, 89, of Paducah, died at 7:43 a.m. Monday at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, John P. Rhodes Jr. of Paducah; a daughter, Susan Grayson of Crescent Springs; a sister, Doris Carneal Ruffin of Paducah; four grandchildren and one great- grandchild.

Glee Barber Wells, 71, of Mt. Olivet, died Wednesday at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, William Alton Wells; a son, William Jennings Wells of Mt. Olivet; daughters, Sandra Myers of Germantown and Sharon Foster of Jupiter; sisters, Keitha Johnson of Dundee, Marcine Blaesdel and Gail Walschon, both of Greenville, Mich.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
