Judy Manning, Kenton court secretary
Judy R. Manning, a secretary who worked in the Kenton county courthouse, didn't want to see anyone mistreated.
And that included the children of parents who were cited to court for one reason or another.
"She gave everybody a fair shake, and she reprimanded women who hit their kids, " said Mrs. Manning's husband of 41 years, Charles Manning of Ludlow.
"She would tell the parents not to slap their kids around because the children didn't create the problem."

Mrs. Manning worked in the courthouse for about 12 years and served Judge Jaeger, Judge Martin Sheehan, Judge William Schmaedecke and others. She also worked in district and circuit courts.
Mrs. Manning was a Covington native who met her husband while both worked for a company in Ludlow.
"She swept me right off my feet. She treated me like a king, " Mr. Manning said.
Judge Jaeger said many of Mrs. Manning's co-workers donated their sick days to her in the hopes that she would recover.
"She was a wonderful lady, always willing to help other people, " Judge Jaeger said.
"She was compassionate and always willing to go the extra mile to help the people we serve. She was a wonderful lady and will be sorely missed."
Judge Schmaedecke agreed.
"We dedicated our court in her memory today. She was the model of goodness in a human being, a pleasure to work with, " Judge Schmaedecke said.
