E. Lucian Bailey, musician, machinist
Growing up in Eastern Kentucky, E. Lucian Bailey could play practically anything with strings, from a guitar to a banjo to a mandolin.
Mr. Bailey was fond of those days when his Morgan County neighbors would get out their instruments and let loose during a hoedown.
And later in life, when he moved to Northern Kentucky, he held onto his love of hospitality and having a good time.
"He was always entertaining, " said a son, Donald Bailey of Cincinnati. "He never liked to travel, but he liked people coming to his place . . . He never had down days."

The retired machinist suffered his first heart attack about four years ago. Since then, he was plagued by more heart attacks and strokes.
After the strokes, he struggled to pronounce words, but he kept a positive attitude, his son said.
Mr. Bailey was an avid hunter. With his hunting dogs, he enjoyed pursuing rabbit, squirrel and other game on his 123-acre farm in Verona. He continued to hunt when he moved to a smaller 51-acre spread in Burlington.
"He was a country boy, " his son said.
