Dayton's Jerry Cox, loved family, garden
Jerry L. Cox suffered from vascular problems and had to have his legs amputated. But Mr. Cox wasn't one to be slowed by disability.
He had his car fitted to allow him to drive. He continued to work in his garden every day. And he kept his wife, children and grandchildren as priorities in his life.
"He never let anything get him down, " said Mr. Cox's wife of 31 years, Cindy Baxter Cox.
"He would get out there and do what he could do. He was loved by many people."
Mr. Cox, 55, of Dayton, died at 11:27 a.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East in Ft. Thomas. He was a retired metal worker with F. H. Lawson Co. in Cincinnati.
Mr. Cox was born in Northern Kentucky and developed many friends over the years, his wife said.
"He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, " Mrs. Cox said.
"He was very friendly and well-liked."
Other survivors include his daughters, Shaunna Cox of Dayton and Debbie Roberts of Bellevue; his mother and stepfather, Ethel and Clifford Wagner of Crossville, Tenn.; a brother, Dennis Cox of Dayton; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Undine Cox, 91, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., formerly of Carrollton, died at 2:06 p.m. Sunday at Community Care of Rutherford County in Murfreesboro. She was a retired telephone operator with South Central Bell, and a member of Carrollton Christian Church. Her husband, Don Cox, died in 1967.
Survivors include a son, Don K. Cox of Murfreesboro; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.
Marie A. Goebel, 91, of Wilmington, Del., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Thursday at Foulk Manor North Medical Center in Wilmington. She was a retired secretary with Ralph E. Goebel Wholesale Jewelry, Cincinnati, and a member of Summit Hills Country Club. Her husband, Ralph E. Goebel, died in 1987.
Survivors include daughters, Virginia A. Goebel of Hockessin, Del., and Cathleen G. Welsh of Wilmington; a sister, Ethel Kuester of Kenton County; four grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.
Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation Service of Delaware, Wilmington, is handling arrangements.
Rod Gruelle, 37, of Union, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a board member of AIDS Volunteers of Northern Kentucky.
Survivors include his mother, Francis Gruelle; a sister, Saundra Riddell; and a brother, Ronald Gruelle.
Services will be private. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Cremation Society of Greater Cincinnati is handling arrangements.
Pamela Guillen-Khan, 45, of Rising Sun, Ind., formerly of Campbell County, died at 11:10 p.m. Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, Covington.
Survivors include a son, Darrell J. Stroud of Coral Gables, Fla.; daughters, Teresa Ann Stroud and Carolyn Stroud, both of Miami, Fla., Kellie M. Stroud of Rising Sun and Christina Faye Stroud of Louisville; her mother and stepfather, Anna Black and Jim Tribbey of Rising Sun; a brother, Lawrence Russell II of Ludlow; sisters, Carolyn J. Russell of Hollywood, Fla., Helen K. Cole of Elsmere, Sherry A. Rizzo of Ludlow, Elizabeth L. Slay of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Pastora D. Philpot of Elkhart, Ind.; and two grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Visitation will begin there at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington 41014.
Willena Bramlett Hernandez, 66, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. She was a retired employee of the Gap, Florence.
Survivors include sons, Richard Earl Masters of Hebron and Anthony William Hernandez of Florence; a daughter, Sandra Kay Cupples of Port Arthur, Tex as; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Davis Cemetery, Scott County. Memorials are suggested to Kidney Foundation of Central Kentucky, 2417-B Regency Road, Lexington 40503.
Adell C. Jones, 78, of Cincinnati, formerly of Covington, died at 11:25 p.m. Sunday at Communicare of Clifton Nursing Home in Cincinnati. She was a retired final inspector with Miller Shoe Manufacturing Co., Cincinnati, and a former sales clerk with Cincinnati department stores.
Survivors include a sister, Im ogean Warren of Cincinnati.

Edith Marie Meredith, 70, of Latonia, died at 6 a.m. Sunday at her home. She was a retired assistant housekeeping supervisor with Holiday Inn Hotel, Covington. Her husband, William Oscar Meredith, died in 1992.
Survivors in clude sons, Fred Meredith of Florence, Lawrence Meredith of Hebron, David Mer edith of Silver Grove, William Patrick Meredith of Williamstown, Danny Meredith of Florence and Charles M. Margie Mineer, 68, of Maysville, died Monday at her home. She was a machine operator with Randell Co., Flemingsburg, and a member of Maysville Wesleyan Church. She was a member of Maysville VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her stepmother, Mildred Hilterbrand of Maysville; sisters, Brenda Back of Lexington, Jeannie Burton of Clayton, Ohio, Margaret Dunn of Maysville, Katherine Purcell of Georgetown, Anna Lee Roush of Lynchburg, Ohio, and Minnie Stoner of Indiana; and brothers, James Eubanks, Danny Hilterbrand, Johnny Hilterbrand, Ronnie Hilterbrand, Sammy Hilterbrand and Scotty Hilterbrand, all of Maysville, and Kenny Hilterbrand of West Union, Ohio.

Ona Mae Okvit, 77, of Alexandria, died at 4:50 p.m. Sunday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. She was a homemaker. Her husband, William Okvit, died in 1976.
Survivors include daughters, Ida Marie Hunt of Covington and Libby Ann Goodridge of Alexandria; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Gerald T. Parker, 62, of Florence, died at 12:01 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. He was a warehouse manager with Dixie Wholesale Co.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Becker Parker; daughter, Teri Ritter of Los Angeles, Patti Jones of Conifer, Colo., and Lorinda Schied of Beulah, Colo.; sons, Chuck Ritter of Bellevue, Kael Parker of Hamburg, Germany, and Scot Parker of Colorado Springs, Colo.; his mother, Jessie Parker of Pueblo, Colo.; sisters, Phyllis McMeekan of Maumee, Ohio, and Mary Quintana of Pueblo; a brother, Bill Parker of Pueblo; and seven grandchildren.

Alice V. Riesenberg, 81, of Ft. Thomas, died at 6:35 p.m. Sunday at Highlands of Ft. Thomas nursing home. She was a retired teacher with Toronto, Canada, schools, and a worker with the Kenton County School Board in the Bookmobile Library.
Survivors include a sister, Rosemary Holloran of Indianapolis.

Violet Longstreet Roberts, 87, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Somerset, died Sunday at Montclair Nursing Home in Omaha. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Matt Abbett Roberts Jr., died in 1996.
Survivors include sons, Matt A. Roberts of Omaha and Brian Lindsay Roberts of China; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
