Frieda Ashcraft, art club member
Frieda L. "Fritzie" Ashcraft, homemaker and longtime member of the Covington Art Club, died Monday at the Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport. She was 90.
Mrs. Ashcraft was a petite lady with firm convictions and a love of art and music that she passed on to her daughter. "She saw to it that I took piano lessons and made sure I went to church every Sunday, " said her daughter, Juanita J. Dougherty of Ft. Mitchell. "I learned to appreciate music and art from her."
Mrs. Ashcraft did enamel work at the Covington Art Club and was an avid bridge player.
She and her husband, the late Julius C. Ashcraft, were married
in 1928. He was an engineer for the Standard Oil Co. for 35 years and also built homes. The Ashcrafts lived in Latonia and later in Boone County in a home Julius built. He built a new home for the family in Crestview Hills in the late 1960s and they lived there for nearly 20 years. In the late 1980s they moved to Ft. Mitchell, near their daughter.
"They were very close to their grandchildren, Scott and Stephanie, " Mrs. Dougherty said. "They took trips with them, watched them grow up."
During their retirement, the Ashcrafts wintered in Florida. Mrs. Ashcraft was a member of Lakeside Christian Church in Lakeside Park.
Julius Ashcraft died in 1992. Mrs. Ashcraft moved to the Baptist Convalescent Center a few years ago.
Other survivors include a sister, Minnie Caldwell of Demossville; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Highland Mausoleum, Ft. Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to the church building fund, 195 Buttermilk Pike, Lakeside Park 41017.

Clyde J. Abbott, 73, of Park Hills, died Monday at his home.
Arrangements are pending at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere.
Mitchell Engle, 33, of Ludlow, died Monday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a mechanic and a member of Kenton Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Belle Engle of Demossville; brothers, Michael Engle of West Liberty, Joe Engle of Burlington, Jeffrey Engle of Newport and Mark Engle of Crittenden; and sisters, Michelle Engle of Elsmere, Glenda Garcia of Lexington and Janet Engle of Demossville.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.
Mary Hyland, 86, of Park Hills, died at 2:15 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a retired cashier with Shillito's Department Store, Cincinnati, and a member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia. Her husband, Richard Charles Hyland, died in 1982.
Survivors include a son, Richard Charles Hyland Jr. of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; daughters, Carol Gutman of Park Hills and Jean Setters of Taylor Mill; and five grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Agnes Church, Ft. Wright. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U.S. 42, Suite C6, Florence 41042. Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.
Mary K. Jackson, 79, of South Carrollton, formerly of Melbourne, died Saturday at Muhlenberg Community Hospi tal, Greenville. She was a sales clerk with Wonder Bread in Dayton, Ohio, and an Avon representative. Her husband, Lawrence Jackson, died in 1977.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Alexandria Cemetery. Tucker Funeral Home, Central City, is handling arrangements.
Bertha Martin, 83, of Florence, died at 8:40 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
Arrangements are pending at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence.
John George Massey, 76, of Taylor Mill, died Sunday at Grant Manor Nursing Home, Williamstown. He was a former Greyhound bus driver and a maintenance man with Metro Housing. He also was a member of Latonia Christian Church and Walnut Hills Masonic Lodge, Cincinnati. He was a World War II veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Gorman Massey; a daughter, Carol Jean Huber of Edgewood; stepsons, Tom Gorman and Joseph Gorman, both of Cincinnati, and Sam Gorman of Melbourne, Fla.; stepdaughters, Nancy Elizabeth Gorman of Milford, Ohio, Sandy Mahlman of Albuquerque, N.M., Priscilla Gorman and Dixie M. Krras, both of Cincinnati; a brother, Erie Massey of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; a sister, Ruth Eckler of Williamstown; three grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Ruth S. Reich, 88, of Union, died at 11:15 a.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a retired AT&T; chief operator and a member of Florence Christian Church. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Vine Street Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati.
William Rogers, 58, of Morning View, died at 3:17 p.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Rita D. Von Lehman Rolfes, 75, of Ft. Wright, died Aug. 14 at Jewish Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker and a volunteer with Northern Kentucky Right to Life, Parish Kitchen, Catholic Social Services, St. Elizabeth Hospital and Villa Madonna Manor.
Survivors include her husband, Harry E. Rolfes; daugh ters, Dianne Lutz of Willisburg, Linda Griffith of Florence, Connie Bates of Ft. Wright, Barbara
Bulen of Ft. Thomas and Michelle Pharo of Cincinnati; sisters, Katie Volpenhein of Cincinnati and Helen Crotty of Crestview Hills; brothers, Joe Von Lehman of South Carolina and Louis Von Lehman of Florence; and 14 grandchildren.

Delpha Wisener, 90, of Latonia, died at 5:25 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a member of Church of Christ in Idabel, Okla., and a retired dry cleaning worker.
Her husband, Lester Wisener, died in 1969.
Survivors include daughters, Theresa Sutter of Monroe, La., and Clois White of Independence; a brother, Morris J. Davis of Belpre, Ohio; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Elizabeth Clare Woerman, 79, of Lakeside Park, died at 8:39 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
She was a homemaker and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Ft. Mitchell. Her husband, Urban John Woerman Sr., died in 1994.
Survivors include a son, Urban Woerman Jr. of Latonia Lakes; daughters, Lois Matthews of Granger, Ind., Sharon Colcord of Villa Hills and Connie Calvert of Florence; sisters, Mary Mueller of Dry Ridge and Julia Osseforth of Covington; and seven grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Visitation will begin there at noon Wednesday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Ft. Wright.
