James Walker
James E. Walker of Newport was a rock 'n' roll drummer, an antique-car restorer and a self-taught painter.
That was in addition to his full-time job as a machinist for Avey Machine and Tool Co.
"He was a talented man, " said Maxine Walker, his wife of 26 years. "And he was one of the most honest, fairest men I have ever known."
Mr. Walker, 62, died Tuesday at his home.
He was a member of Antique Car Club and of Trinity Baptist Church.
In the 1950s, Mr. Walker played drums and sang in a rock band called Ed Walker and the House Rockers.
Up until about a month ago, he and friends frequently gathered in his basement to jam to their favorite songs by Percy Sledge, Little Rich ard and other artists, his wife said.
Mr. Walker also was an avid auto restorer. He was proud of his award-winning 1929 Essex and 1932 Buick, which both took trophies at car shows. He also built motorcycles in his small garage.
Other survivors include a son, Greg Walker of Florence; stepsons, Terry Kyle of Morning View and Edward Kyle of Newport; daughters, Nancy Rapp and Debbie Berry of Florence; a stepdaughter, Tracie Bricking of Ft. Thomas; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be there from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
Stella Irene Baker, 82, of Brooksville, died Wednesday at her home. She was a retired employee of the Buckeye Catering Co.
Survivors include daughters, Doris Garrett of Brooksville and Nancy Balsh of Spring Hill, Fla.; a son, Clyde Baker of Milford, Ohio; a sister, Jo Ann Thurmon of Thomasville, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be there from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Grants Lick.
Ida C. Broughton, 76, of Latonia, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Hospice, Covington. She was a retired assembler for the Nutone Co., Cincinnati.
Survivors include her husband, Alex Broughton; a son, Everett Burton Jr. of Erlanger; a daughter, Helen Joyce Baudendistel of Burlington; a sister, Eva Jackson of Cannon; brothers, John Smith of Covington and Bill Smith of Cincinnati; five grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Full Gospel Pentecostal Church, Latonia. Visitation will be there from 4 p.m. Friday until time of services Saturday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Ft. Wright. Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, is handling arrangements.
Gordon R. Furnish, 62, of Taylor Mill, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired line maintenance worker for Owen County Rural Electric. He was a member of Paint Lick Baptist Church. He was also an Army Veteran of the Korean War and a member of Tadmor 108 Lodge, Warsaw.
Survivors include a son, Tim Furnish of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Melissa Stauter of Killeen, Texas and two granddaughters.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Paint Lick Cemetery. Visitation will be there from 10:30 a.m. to time of services Saturday. Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw, is handling arrangements.
Martha Goins, 92, of Alexandria, died at 11:55 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Hospice, Covington. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include daughters, Geneva Burdette of Seminole, Fla., Gertrude Lemmons of Bellevue and Juanita Lunsford of Bellevue; 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.
Steve Helton, 49, of Florence, died at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Hospice, Covington.
Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Lucille House, 85, of Taylor Mill, died at 4:28 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill, is handling arrangements.
Will Hill, 63, of Covington, died at 9:47 a.m. Aug. 29 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Covington.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Highlands Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell. There will be no visitation.
C & C Mortuary Services, Covington, is in charge of arrangements.
Sara Louise Florence Lenox, 78, of Pompano Beach, Fla., formerly of Berry, died Mondy at her home. She was a retired postmaster for the Berry Post Office. She was a Navy Waves veteran of World War II and a member of Berry United Methodist Church. Her husband, Lawrence Florence, died in 1975.
Survivors include daughters, Naomi Ramos of Pompano Beach and Varina Hallock of Caldwell, Idaho; three grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry. Visitation will be there from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry. Memorials are suggested to American Parkinson Disease Association, 222 Piedmont Ave., Cincinnati 45219.
Elmira Fryman McKenzie, 72, of Covington, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Jewell Wilson of Morning View; step-daughters, Joy Groves of Robertson County and Carlon Welch of Florida; sisters, Lizzie Plummer of Paris, Bessie L. Stoker of Robertson County and Angie K. Centers of Covington; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be there from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Piqua Cemetery, Robertson County.
Roy H. "Ozzie" Osborne, 52, of Williamstown, died at 7:54 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was an installation technician for Cincinnati Bell. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was also Sunday school superintendent at Williamstown United Methodist Church. He was a member of the administrative board and treasurer of the William Arnold Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Singleton Osborne; sons, Roy W. Osborne and David L. Osborne, both of Williams town; his mother, Nanette Miller Osborne of Williamstown; a brother, Terry F. Osborne of Virginia Beach, Va.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be there from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church.
Anna Lee Rust, 80, of Portland, Texas, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at Columbia Doctors Regional Medical Center, Corpus Christi, Texas. Her husband, Rev. E. Warren Rust, died in 1979.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Heatherly of Portland; a sister, Ola Andrews of Crystal River, Fla.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling local arrangements. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church building fund, 1305 Wildcat Drive, Portland, Texas 78374.
Paul H. Shelton, 80, of Carrollton, died Wednesday at Green Valley Health Care facility, Carrollton. He was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Marjorie Shelton, died in 1995.
Survivors include daughters, Paula Hibbard of Richmond and Terry Shelton of Fishers, Ind.; a sister, Elizabeth Bradley of Carrollton; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be there from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to time of services Friday. Burial will be in Carrollton IOOF Cemetery.
Lorene Vance, 71, of Covington, died Wednesday at her home.
