Rev. Shelby North served as pastor, fire chaplain
Rev. Shelby O. North had a hard time keeping his seat at a restaurant.
Every time he and his wife, Willie Bowling North, went out to eat, Rev. North was too busy greeting friends at other tables to sit down himself.
"He was just a well-liked guy. He was a big help in the community, " Mrs. North said.
Rev. North, 70, of Hebron, died Friday morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington.
He was the pastor at Constance Church of the Brethren.
Mrs. North said her husband was an honest man who nonetheless found joy in a group of older folks called the Liar's Club, a daily gathering at Hardees restaurant near Burlington.
"A bunch of old men go there and have a ball, " Mrs. North said.
The inexhaustible pastor was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on a submarine in the Pacific theater.
He was a member of the Moose organization, and a captain and chaplain of the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department, where he served for at least 10 years, said his family.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 757 and, most importantly, a loving husband for 47 years.
Other survivors include daughters, Ona Mae Orr of Alexandria, Ohio, Donna Jean Vines of Hebron, and Sherry L. Downing of Pendleton County; brothers, Charles North of Erlanger and Owen North of Hebron; sisters, Esther Rozelle of Kettering, Ohio, and Nellie Kingery of Hebron; and 10 grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron.
Visitation will be there from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday with Masonic services at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Hebron Lutheran Cemetery.

Dorothy Marcella Carlisle, 74, of Cold Spring, died Tuesday at Allen Memorial Hospital in Jamesville, Iowa.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Northern Kentucky Association for the Retarded.
She was a past president of the Newport Catholic Mothers Club.
Her husband, Charles W. "Bill" Carlisle, died in 1988. A son, John "Bob" Carlisle, died in 1963.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Carlisle of Jamesville, Iowa; and two grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Cold Spring.
Daniel Gene Carson, 31, of Alexandria, died at 5 a.m. Friday at University Hospital, Cincinnati, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
He was a laborer for Castellini Co., Cincinnati. He was a former Alexandria firefighter.
Survivors include a son, Seth Carson of Alexandria; his father, Donald Gene Carson of Alexandria; his mother, Wilma Ann Carson of Alexandria; brothers, David Carson of Cold Spring and Kevin Carson of Alexandria.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Alexandria.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Alexandria Funeral Home.
Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Alexandria.
Stanley Frederick Glaser, 85, of Morning View, died at 1:05 a.m. Friday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights.
He was a retired machinist with Lodge and Shipley Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Morning View United Methodist Church.
His wife, Ethel Sexton Glaser, died in 1987.
Survivors include daughters, Marcella Beatrice Scully of Jasper, Fla., Freda May Houston of Morning View, Patricia Louise Hattendorf of Cincinnati, and Barbara Faye Dunn of Bethel, Ohio; a son, Stanley Frederick Glaser Jr. of Independence; brothers, Ralph Glaser of Taylor Mill and John Glaser of Hodge, S.C.; 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence.
Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Monday. Burial is in Floral Hills Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to the church.
Sister Mary Francis Kroeger, RGS, 82, of Ft. Thomas, died at 7:12 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas.
She was a retired seamstress and laundry worker, and a sister of the Good Shepherd.
Survivors include sisters, Catherine Kroeger CPPS, Dayton, Ohio, Agnes Adams of Beaumont, Texas and Estella Mueller; and a brother, Anthony Kroeger of Calumet, Mich.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Sisters of Good Shepherd, Pelletier Hall, Ft. Thomas.
Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Ft. Thomas.

Helen Luster, 75, of Florence, died at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
She was a former seamstress for Magliano Tailoring Co., and a member of the Erlanger Nazarene Church.
She was a member of the American Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union.
Her husband, James C. Luster, died in January.
Survivors include a son, James A. Luster of Florence; daughters, Alma "Sis" Luster and Nina L. Luster, both of Florence; a brother, Jason Vest of Casey County; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Monday.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Robert Louis Moser, 71, of Edgewood, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood, from a stroke.
Mr. Moser was a member of the Retired Air Force Reserves Association and of St. Louis Parish, Cincinnati.
Survivors include daughters, Carolyn Hanchin of Geneva, Switzerland, Victoria Moser of Florence and Patricia Burkhart of Everts; sons, Robert Moser of Concord, N.C. and Shelly Moser and Brennan Moser, both of Edgewood; sisters, Mary Ann Carlotta and Agnes Schroth; brothers, Tom Moser, Jerry Moser, and Paul Moser; and many grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue.

Stephen J. Mulroney, 40, of Cincinnati, formerly of Newport, was found dead at his home on Sept. 16.
Survivors include his father, Charles G. Mulroney of Newport; sisters, Charlean Sullivan of Janesville, Wis, . and Kathleen Plagakis of Bellevue; brothers, Charles Mulroney and Tim Mulroney, both of Ft. Thomas, Thomas Mulroney of Bellevue, David Mulroney of Covington, Dan Mulroney of Independence, and Michael Mulroney of Anderson Township, Ohio.
His mother Jean Mulroney, died in 1988.
Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Frank J. Nastold, 97, of Cincinnati, died Friday at Francis can at West Park nursing home, Cincinnati.
He was a printer for Billboard Publishing Co., Cincinnati and a member of St. Martin of Tours Church, Cheviot.
Mr. Nastold was also a member of the Jesuit Family Club of Cincinnati.
Survivors include sons, Rev. Donald O. Nastold and Thomas Nastold, both of Cincinnati; daughters, Sister Ruth Nastold of Cincinnati and Mary Lou Case of Ft. Wright, and two grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the church. Visitation will be there from 4 p.m. to time of services Monday with prayers at 7 p.m.
Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Frances K. Rose, 89, of Owenton, died Friday at Owen County Memorial Hospital, Owenton.
She was a homemaker and a member of Owenton First Baptist Church.

Barbara Switzer Schuster, 60, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Thursday at her home.
She was a former UNIX technical services manager with AT&T;, Cincinnati.
Survivors include a son, Michael Schuster of Cary, Ill.; a daughter, Michelle Schuster of Orlando; mother, Esther Sebastian Switzer of Scottsburg, Ind.; Nancy Minnick of Florence, and Elberta Lundy of Scottsburg, Ind.; brothers, Paul Switzer of Columbus, Ind. and Dewey Switzer of Butler; and four grandsons.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Elliston Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.

She was a former hostess for American Airlines and a member of Erlanger Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, William H. Vest; a daughter, Vickie Phelps of Burnside, and a grandchild.
