Thelma Tobin, served music clubs
Thelma Kelton Tobin will be remembered for her love of music and way with words.
"She had a lot of talent. . . a way with words, in speaking before groups and organizing things, " recalled Mrs. Tobin's niece, Mary Lee Kelly of Taylor Mill.
Mrs. Tobin, 88, of Cincinnati, formerly of Kenton County, died Friday night in the Hospice of Blue Ash, Cincinnati.
Though her formal musical training was limited to some lessons on the piano, Mrs. Tobin was a life-long music lover. She was a member of National Federation of Music Clubs and past president of Mt. Auburn Music Club. She was a member of Cincinnati Symphony Club and was a past program chair of the Greater Cincinnati Christian Women's Club.
Her aunt was involved in numerous musical endeavors and productions, from performing to organizing and promoting them, Mrs. Kelly said.
A native of Kenton County, who lived for many years in Taylor Mill, Mrs. Tobin dabbled with writing and also had a talent for telling stories, Mrs. Kelly said. "She was really blessed with a terrific memory. I remember her telling me so many interesting stories. I wish I would have recorded them, " Mrs. Kelly said.
Mrs. Tobin, a retired legal secretary, had worked for a number of firms throughout the area. She was a member of Latonia Baptist Church, where she was involved with a Sunday School class program.
Mrs. Tobin was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and had a keen interest in genealogy, Mrs. Kelly said. Her aunt also traveled extensively, including visiting Ireland, she said.
Mrs Tobin's husband, John Tobin, died in 1986. Her first husband, Charles Kelton, died in the 1970s.
Survivors include another niece, Barbara Sue Morgan of Florida; and a nephew, Roy Howard of Covington.
Services were this morning at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Burial was in Independence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the church building fund, 38th and Church St., Latonia 41015.
Elmer Clay Ashcraft, 63, of Jonesville, died Saturday at his home. He was a retired state employee and farmer, and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Jonesville.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Thomas Ashcraft; sons, Jimmy Clay Ashcraft of Deland, Fla., Timmy Wayne Ashcraft of Owenton and Johnny Clay Ashcraft of Jonesville; a sister, Betty Lou Ashcraft of Jonesville; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation began there at noon. Burial will be in Jonesville Cemetery.
Elizabeth R. Stern Bollman, 77, of Covington, died at 2:10 a.m. Sunday at Drake Center, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker and a retired beautician and cosmetologist in Middletown, Ohio. Her husband, Robert E. Bollman, died in 1993.
Survivors include sons, Carl L. Bollman of Burlington and Robert E. Bollman of Covington; sisters, Juanita Osborne of Middletown, Ohio, and Dorothy Tuszynski of Decatur, Ind.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Sarah Browning, 100, of Falmouth, died Saturday at Eastern Star Nursing Home, Louisville.
Arrangements are pending at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.
Garnet Gray Clark, 86, of Covington, died at 6 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Care Center in Covington. She was a retired bookkeeper with John Shillito Co. and Dodd Jewelry Co. in Cincinnati, and was a member of Rosebud Chapter No. 39 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Cincinnati Professional Women's Club and Ft. Wright Leisure Club. Her husband, Biddle Clark, died in 1954.
Survivors include a brother, Bernerd Gray of Kenwood, Ohio; and a sister, Eileen Chase of Covington.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 1885 Dixie Highway, Suite 250, Ft. Wright 41011.
Loretta Catherine Deitzer, 69, of Covington, died at 5 a.m. Sunday at Florence Park Care Center in Florence. She was a retired bookkeeper with Teamsters Local No. 100, Cincinnati. Her husband, Ben Deitzer, died in 1991.
Survivors include a son, Arthur Plybon of Independence; a daughter, Karen Schmidt of Covington; four grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Church, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.
Rev. Earl Edwards, 70, of Hebron, died Sunday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.

Una Johnson, 67, of Walton, died at 12:15 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of Taylor Mill Church of Christ. Her husband, James Edward Johnson, died in 1977. A son, James Arnold Johnson, died in 1957.
Survivors include daughters, Sandra F. Armstrong of Taylor Mill and Linda K. Wright of Walton; a son, Steven Clay Johnson of Independence; sisters, Reba Petry of Crestview Hills and Pat Antrobus of Walton; a brother, Bill Brown of Morning View; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Charles Nyland Marks, 91, of Ft. Wright, died Saturday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. He was a retired electrician with Union Terminal, Cincinnati, and a member of Knights of Columbus Carroll Council. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local No. 74, Cincinnati. His wife, Katherine L. Crowe Marks, died in 1966.
Survivors include a daughter, Eileen Kolkmeier of Ft. Wright; sons, Jim Marks of Nashville, Tenn., and Dan Marks of Latonia; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Lana Turner McIntosh, 44, of Alexandria, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. She was an employee with Carmel Manor Nursing Home, Ft. Thomas, and a member of New Macedonia Old Regular Baptist Church, Newport.
Survivors include her husband, Alfred McIntosh; a son, Charles Thomas McIntosh of Alexandria; her parents, Rosa and Earl Turner of Alexandria; a sister, Cathy Turner of Booneville; brothers, James Turner of Newport and Jeff Turner of Alexandria; and two grandchildren.
Services were this morning at the church. Burial will be at 4 p.m. today at Letcher Turner Cemetery, Breathitt County. Cooper Funeral Home, Alexandria, handled arrangements.
Nanci Shields O'Hearn, 69, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., formerly of Walton, died Friday at Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Mike O'Hearn of Tempe, Ariz.; sisters, Pauline Foster of Ft. Lauderdale, Betty Taylor of Hamilton, Ohio, and Faye Cicero of Margate, Fla.; a brother, John Shields of Pompano Beach, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fairchild Funeral Home in Ft. Lauderdale.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery in Ft. Lauderdale.
Rosetta Reinhart, 90, of Ft. Thomas, died at 12:30 p.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital East in Ft. Thomas.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Thomas Church in Ft. Thomas. Her husband, Joseph F. Reinhart, died in 1979.
Survivors include six grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Ft. Thomas.
Juanita "Bonnie" Riggs, 68, of Maysville, died Friday at Columbia Hospital in Maysville.
She was a retired nurse's aide with Peterson's Nursing Home in Goshen, Ind., and a member of Plainview Baptist Church.
Her husband, Elzia Lee Riggs, died in 1972.
Survivors include sons, David Lee Riggs of Union City, Ind., Ronnie Alfred Riggs and Ricky Allen Riggs, both of Maysville, and James William Riggs of Goshen, Ind.; daughters, Bonnie Bradford of Dover, Judy Ruark of Aberdeen, Ohio, Mary Setzer and Ruth Martin, both of Goshen, Ind.; brothers, Carl Gilbert Sr. of Maysville and Thomas Hubbard of Mt. Olivet; 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery.
Norma Jean Stephany Sanson, 69, of Newport, died at 11 p.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas.
She was a housekeeper at St. Luke.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Toler of Newport; a son, Michael Stephany of Newport; a sister, Mamie Hopper of Norwood, Ohio; and a brother, Chelsea Thomas of Grants Lick.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas.
Visitation will begin there at noon Tuesday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.
Paul Arden Thirs, 78, of Villa Hills, died Friday at Florence Park Care Center in Florence.
He was a retired self-employed dairy man in Villa Hills and a member of Crescent Springs Presbyterian Church.
He was a charter member of Villa Hills Civic Club.
Survivors include his brother, George Thirs of Lakeside Park.
Services will be at 2 p.m. to day at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger.
Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Dorothy Mae Tustin, 70, of Ryland Heights, died at 5:30 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.
She was a re tired employee of Kroger's Covington and Latonia stores.
Survivors include her husband, Smokey Tustin; and a sister, Eilene Harmon of Cincinnati.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
Visitation will begin there at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Ft. Wright.
