Wester A. Alford Jr, a former firefighter on the fireboat Deluge, died Thursday of respiratory failure at University Hospital. He was 50. Mr. Alford was born in New Orleans and lived in Gretna. He attended Memphis State University in Tennessee. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart.
Survivors include his father, Wester A. Alford Sr.; his mother, Rita Claire Wininger Alford; and three brothers, Michael, Brian and Jeffrey Alford.
A Mass will be said Tuesday at 11am at Mothe Funeral Home..., Harvey.... Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park [Gretna, LA].

RALEIGH -- Aline A. Blowe, 77, of Raleigh and Emerald Isle, NC, died Thursday, April 15 at Rex Hospital. She was the wife of the late Sherman W. Blowe. She was the daughter of the late George Augustus and Martha Blanche Alford. Mrs. Blowe was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 19, at Montlawn Memorial Park.
Mrs. Blowe is survived by her sisters, Geraldine A. Hall and Christine A. Benton; brother, Paul Alford, all of Raleigh; nephews, Ronnie Alford and George Hall of Raleigh, Larry Alford of Chapel Hill and Mike Alford of Atlanta; nieces, Virginia Brown and Patricia Christianson of Atlanta; ten great-nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends at Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. Third St., Wendell, NC, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, April 18, and other times at the home of her nephew, George L. Hall, 4829 Rembert Dr., Raleigh, NC....
ARIA MAE ALFORD McCLINTON

On January 12th, God pulled one of his brightest stars and set it asail into the heavens. Mrs. Aria Mae Alford McClinton, of 1621 E. 19th Street, departed this life following a brief period of illness at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
She was born May 2, 1919 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to John and Lelia Higgins Alford. She was a resident of Winston-Salem for most of her life and a former cook at Summit School and Anderson High of Forsyth County, where she retired. Mrs. McClinton was also a beautician for many years. She joined Kimberly Park Holiness Church where she was a long time member and later became a member of the Church of Reconciliation Non-Denominational Church.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 16, 1999, at 2:00 p.m. from the Union Chapel Baptist Church.... Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens....
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Clatis C. McClinton, Sr. of the home; two son, Clatis McClinton, Jr. and James McClinton; two daughters, Ella Hallums and Clara Hauser, all of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three grandchildren, Carolyn Hallums, Sonya Hauser, and Kenneth Smith; three great-grandchildren, Jamela Smith, Jordan Hauser, and Tashelia Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mrs. Elizabeth Whitaker Alford, 83, formerly of Hutton St., Winston-Salem, died Wednesday, December 9, 1998, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born May 19, 1915 in Forsyth County to Ira Winfield and Eva Duggins Whitaker. Mrs. Alford was a member of Vernon Forest Baptist Church and was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 46 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Venice Lewis Alford; a daughter, Glenda Alford; a sister, Faith Coleman; and a stepfather, Walt Hill. Surviving are one son, Gary Alford, Sr. and wife, Donna, of Lexington; one grandson, Gary Alford, Jr., of Lexington; two great granddaughters, Jennifer Alford and Heather Alford, both of Lexington; one brother, Ira Leroy Whitaker; and one sister, Gladys Frye, both of Winston-Salem.
Funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.... Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens....

RALEIGH -- Ella "Ramona" Alford, 65, of 336 Meredith Street, died April 1, 1999. Mrs. Alford was born in Tarboro, to the William Linwood and Ida Tolston Coker. Funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday in the Montlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. The family will greet friends Sunday from 12 noon-2 p.m. at the home of Faye Batts, 376 Wilmont Dr.
Surviving are her husband, Robert W. Alford; two sons, Robert Alford Jr. of Greenville, SC, and Richard Alford, of Garner; granddaughter, Debbie Alford and grandson, Glenn Alford, both of Greenville, SC; two sisters and two brothers....

BENSON -- Essic Alford Jr., 74, of 204 E. Mann St., died Sunday in his home.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in St. James Disciples of Christ Church.... Burial will be in Resthaven cemetery in Dunn.
Mr. Alford is survived by his wife, Charlotte M. Alford of Benson; three daughters, Phyllis A. Alford of St. Albans, N.Y., Deborah J. Williams of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Sarona L. Alford-Creed of Westbury, N.Y.; two sisters, Cora Williams and Louise Clark, both of Benson; four brothers, Nathan Alford, George Alford, Abraham Alford and Joseph Alford, all of Benson; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Dafford Funeral Home in Dunn.

DURHAM -- Mrs. Ethel Mae Keyes, wife of Robert E. Keyes of 405 Whitmore Lane, Durham, formerly of Palm Harbor, FL, died Saturday, January 16, 1999 at Duke Medical Center.
She was born on March 17, 1918, in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Keyes studied at several colleges and universities around the country, and then enjoyed a lifelong career in government service. She was a member of St. John's Baptist Church, Raleigh.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law; Phyllis and T.C. Stanford of Durham, Patricia Perry and Ronald Davis of Wake Forest, and Linda and Billy Poole of Raleigh; a brother, Howard Alford of Huntington, WVA; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 7-8 p.m. today at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave (Rt. 70) Raleigh. The funeral service will be Monday, 11 a.m. in Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel.... Burial will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park....

LAURINBURG -- Mrs. Flodie Hardee Alford, 90, of 1104 Muse Street, died Wednesday at Manor Care Health Services in Pinehurst.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium Chapel.... Burial will follow at New Hollywood cemetery in Lumberton.
Born November 21, 1907 in Loris, SC, she was the daughter of the late Nedham and Lola Norris Hardee, and was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel L. Alford. Mrs. Alford was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Sue Alford of Laurinburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Edith and Arnold Wischhusen of Raleigh and Ethel and Jim Boozer of Summerfield; two sisters, Vera Todd of Farimont and Elnetta Patterson of Laurinburg; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren....
