ROCKY MOUNT -- Garland Cleophus Alford Jr., 73, died Saturday, March 27, 1999.
He was born October 5, 1925 in Edgecombe County, the son of the late Garland C. Sr. and Margaret Williams Alford. He was a retired service manager with John Vann Motors Auto Dealership and a World War II Army Veteran.
Surviving: wife, Rachel Deaton Alford of the home; sisters and brother-in-law, Jean Alford of Rocky Mount and Yvonne and Donnie Arrington of Rocky Mount; sister-in-law, Betty Ann Deaton of Candor; brother-in-law, Jesse W. Deaton of Tempe, Ariz.; two nieces and one nephew.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pineview Cemetery, Section 53.... The family will receive friends, 7-8:30 tonight at Johnson Funeral Home, Fairview Road, and other times at 8336 Town Creek Road, Rocky Mount.
HULDA EMMALINE HOLTER

Mrs. Hulda Emmaline Holter, 94 Jefferson, died Monday April 20 at Citizens Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Frederick.
She was predeceased by her first husband Clark C. Moser in 1946 and her second husband, John D. Holter in 1978.
Born in Galax, VA. she was a daughter of the late Lemuel and Caroline Elizabeth Mabe Frost and was also the last of her immediate family.
She was retired from the Frederick CO. school system as cafeteria manager at Middletown Elementary School. She was a member of the Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, Jefferson for over 80 years and was a lifetime deacon. She was a very active member at Pleasant View where she taught in the children's dept. of the Sunday School; was director of the Sunday school for many years; childrens director for many years; served as church clerk; directed vacation bible school and also cooked at Camp Piniel, a church camp near Thurmont and was active in the women's fellowship of the church serving in many officies. She also attended church at Tranquility of Fredericktowne where she had resided for five years.
She was a world traveller and was involved in many charitable organizations and has also volunteered at Valley Elementary School. She sponsored children with the Christian Children Fund and met one of her sponsored children in Africa.
She is survived by:
1 son = Glenn E. Moser and wife Shirley - Middletown;
1 daughter - Alma E. Dade and husband Stanley - Jefferson; another daughter-in-law - Marie Moser - Palm Coast, FL
She was predeceased by a son Clark WM. "Bill" Moser in 2003

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 East Main Street, Middletown on Thursday April 23. Funeral Services will be held 11 AM on Friday April 24 from the Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, Jefferson. Rev. Tim May will officiate.
Interment will be made in the church cemetery.

MARY MARGUERITE HENDERSON
February 6, 1958 - April 25, 2009
Ms. Mary Marguerite Henderson, 51 Burkittsville went home to be with the Lord Saturday April 25. 2009 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born in Frederick Co., February 6, 1958 she was a daughter of the late Roy and Mabel Weedon Henderson. She was a member of the Mt. Zion AME Church, Knoxville and assisted with the Lord's kitchen at the church and was a graduate of Brunswick High School.
She is survived by:
1 son - Michael Henderson and wife Mary - Hagerstown
1 granddaughter - Sierra Henderson. She was also predeceased by a granddaughter Bailey Henderson.
8 brothers and sisters - Roy Henderson - Burkittsville; Daniel Henderson and friend Pat - Hagerstown; David Henderson and friend Sharon - Burkittsville; Van Allen and wife Patricia Frederick; Richard Henderson and wife Bonnie - Petersville; Hilda Smith - Berlin, NJ; Virginia King and husband Thomas - Hagerstown; Betty Weedon and husband Maurice - Frederick a maternal friend - Barbara Terry Koroma - Lanham.
She is also survived by the following aunts and uncles - Christine Ambush, Bessie Holliman and Uncle Gene; Virginia Simms; Roxie Weedon, Uncle Richard, Uncle Cornelius. She was taking car of her loving Uncle Richard at the time of her death.
Also survived by many cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM on Thursday April 30 from the Mt. Zion AME Church, 202 Jefferson Pike in Knoxville. Rev. Jonathan Davis will offficiate.
There will be a viewing from 10 AM until the time of services at 11AM on Thursday.
Interment will be made in the AME cemetery in Burkittsville.

CLINTON, N.C. -- Henry Alford, 91, an electrical engineer, died of heart failure Friday at Sampson Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services are 3 p.m. today in Clinton City Cemetery. In the event of inclement weather, services will be held at Crumpler-Honeycutt funeral home, which is handling arrangements.
Col. Alford was a McComb native. He attended McComb Schools and Mississippi State University. He graduated in 1927 with a degree in electrical engineering and was commissioned second lieutenant by ROTC. He was a charter member of Mississippi State College Chapter of Tau Beta Pi Association, a national engineering honor society, and a member of the Jackson Mississippi Chapter of Professional Engineers.
He worked as an electrical engineer with the Tennessee Valley Authority and Rural Electric Administration. He served in the Army from 1941 until 1946. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Clinton, N.C. He was a Mason and a Shriner.
Survivors include: wife, Ruth; and brother, James Monroe Alford of Charlotte, N.C....

CARY -- Sarah Alford Hurley, 80, of Cary, formerly of Johnston County, died Monday at Western Wake Medical Center. Mrs. Hurley is retired from the Division of Motor Vehicles with twenty five years of service.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church of Cary. Entombment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, James Thaw Hurley; son, Ted Randolph Hurley and wife, Betty of Raleigh; daughter, Jane Hurley Mosley and husband, Jerry Wayne of Cary; grandchildren, Carlton Wayne Mosley of Cary; Kimberly Mosley White and husband, Greg of Charlotte, Paige Renee Hurley of Beaufort, NC and Gretchen Hope Hurley of Annapolis, MD; great-grandchild, Elizabeth Adeline Hurley of Beaufort, NC.

Graveside services will be held 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Lee Family cemetery in the Meadow Community Area, near Benson, NC.
Surviving: daughter, Anne A. Smith of Dallas, TX; son, W. Jerry Alford of Marietta, GA; sister, Katherine A. Echols of Macclesfield; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Alma K. Alford, age 77, of Hamilton, died at Mercy of Hamilton Progressive Care, at 3:45 p.m., on December 10, 1998. She was born in Hamilton, Ohio on January 10, 1921, the daughter of Nickolas and Magdalene (Bohr) Lauer. She was educated in the Hamilton Schools and the Cincinnati Beauty School. She married
Raymond Floyd Alford on June 28, 1947 in Hamilton, and he preceded her in death on March 26, 1993. She was a member of the S. Peter in Chains Catholic Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Love and her husband, Ronald of Florence, Kentucky; a son, Nick Alford of Hamilton; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; four brothers, Albert Lauer and his wife Antoinette, Ervin Lauer, Paul "Nick" Lauer and four sisters, Louise Tape, Helen Hurd, Jean Pater and her husband, Ray, all of Hamilton and Irene Digono of Fairfield and a sister-in-law, Gladys Lauer of Hamilton. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Elizabeth Lauer and Marie Bruck and two brothers, Eric and William Lauer.
Funeral services will be held at the St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church ... at 1:00 pm. Monday. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Webb Noonan Funeral Home ... with burial in the St. Stephen Cemetery....
