William McKinley King loved children, church
For William McKinley King, there was no such thing as too much time with his family.
On weekends like this one, the clan would gather at his home, rake leaves and have a hot dog roast.
"My dad's kindness is just overwhelming, " said daughter Rhonda King of Covington. "He just loved his children and grandchildren very much. We had housefuls, and he loved it."
Mr. King, 76, of Covington, died Friday at his home.
He retired after 27 years as a warehouse man for Merchants Cold Storage Co., Cincinnati. He was a board member and head usher of the Montana Avenue Church of the Nazarene, Covington, and an Army veteran of World War II.
Church, and bringing up his family in the church, came first. "He passed out candy to children every Sunday morning, " Ms. King said.
"My dad never met a stranger, and his No. 1 priority was praying for others."
Other survivors include his wife, Nellie King; sons, Billy Joe King of Covington, Henry King of Taylor Mill and Mark King of Erlanger; daughters, Beverly Ball of Ryland Heights, Sheila Jones, Gloria Anderson and Elizabeth Hunter of Covington, and Kristi Armstrong of Westwood, Ohio; a brother, Charles King of Grant County; sisters, Myrtle Williams and Rhonda Morillion of Lawrenceburg, Ind., and Jane Sandlin of Bethel, Ohio; 20 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.

Kimberly Hargan Akins, 38, of Erlanger, died Wednesday at her home. She was a bus driver for Kenton County schools.
Survivors include sons, Dustin L. Bennett and Sean R. Bennett of Erlanger; a daughter, Alisha N. Bennett of Erlanger; her parents, Jack Heist and Bernie Heist of Erlanger; and a sister, Valerie S. Gore of Elsmere.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.
Virginia Anderson, 88, of Ft. Wright, died at 12:43 p.m. Friday at the Highlands of Ft. Thomas Nursing Home. Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.
Jewell V. Ferrell, 82, of Foster, died Friday at her home. Arrangements are pending at Metcalfe-Hennessey Funeral Home, Augusta.
Robert Fulweiler, 81, of Covington, died at 2:10 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospice, Covington. Arrangements are pending at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia.
Robert Gilvin, 79, of Covington, died at 8:26 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a heavy-equipment operator for Local 18 of the Ohio Operating Engineers, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Gilvin; daughters, Angie Gilvin of Florence and Marie Yarber and Brenda Barker of Mt. Sterling; brothers, William Gilvin, Raymond Gilvin and Earl Gilvin of Mt. Sterling; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Jack D. Holland, 73, of Alexandria, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. He was a retired truck driver for U.S. Shoe, Cincinnati, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Bellevue.
A son, John David Holland, died in 1994. Survivors include his wife, Betty Burlew Holland; a son, Greg Holland of Alexandria; a sister, Edna Barger of Somerset; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Alexandria Funeral Home, with visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Patrick S. Huron, 55, of Dover, died at 6:22 a.m. Thursday at the Mason County Jail. He was a self-employed bookkeeper and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Georgette "Etta" White Huron; sons, Ray Huron, Ricky Huron, Joshua Huron and Ted Huron, all at home; a daughter, Cathy Wietrick of Huntington Beach, Calif.; brothers, Terry Huron and Timmy Huron Maysville; and a sister, Peggy Tucker of Maysville.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville, with visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Charleston Bottoms Cemetery, Maysville.
Ruby Lee Kendall, 92, of Carrollton, died Thursday at Green Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center, Carrollton. She was a retired clerk for Hill's Grocery in Carrollton and a member of the Valley Christian Center church, Carrollton.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Quackenbush of Vestal, N.Y.; a sister, Martha Buhlig of Milton; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

George A. Lange, of Pembroke Pines, Fla., formerly of Ft. Mitchell, died Wednesday at his home. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Strassburger Lange; brothers, Ed Lange of Lakeside Park, Lou Lange of San Diego, Ferd Lange of Ft. Mitchell and Rob Lange of Park Hills; sisters, Margaret Moss of Edgewood and Gerry Willman of Taylor Mill.

Ronald W. Lantz Jr., 34, of Ludlow, died Friday at Beechwood Home, Cincinnati. He was a former manager for IGA grocery stores in Ludlow and Germantown, Ohio.
Survivors include his parents, Ronald W. Lantz and Ruth Martin Lantz of Ludlow, and a sister, Ronda Zwick of Ludlow.

Anna Maude Lippert, 79, of Augusta, died Friday at Columbia Hospital, Maysville. Arrangements are pending at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Augusta.
James Brandon Settles, 17, of Corinth, died Thursday in an automobile accident on Gratz Road in Owen County. He was a senior at Owen County High School and a member of the school's football team.
Survivors include his parents, Gary Settles and Carla Faye Thomas Settles; a sister, Christina Leigh Thomas of Gauley Bridge, W. Va.; a brother, Justin Settles of Owen County; grandparents, James Settles and Sandra Settles of London and Carlotte and Sarah Thomas of Charleston, W. Va.

Mary E. Sumner, 102, of Covington, died at 2:50 a.m. Friday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of Ludlow First Baptist Church.
Her husband, William T. Sumner, died in 1977. Survivors include daughters, Nona McGuffey of Ludlow, Nadine Sexton of Ludlow, Sue Lacker of Cincinnati and Alma Tarkington of Windsor, N.C.; sons, Robert Sumner of Harrisburg, Ill., Edwin Sumner of Cincinnati and Donald Sumner of Keller, Texas; sisters, Muriel Hansford of Jefferson City, Tenn., and Ione Ambrister of Knoxville, Tenn.; a brother, Richard Miller, of Hixson, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Ellen Fuller Venard, 65, of Ft. Thomas, died at 7:30 a.m. Friday at her home. She was a homemaker and past president of the Altar Society and Mother's Club at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Ft. Thomas.
Survivors include her husband, Robert H. Venard of Ft. Thomas; a daughter, Diane Russell of Villa Hills; sons, Stephen Venard of Villa Hills and Daniel J. Venard of Wilder; her mother, Mary Ellen Fuller of Cincinnati; a sister, Lynn Gerth of Cincinnati; and three grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with prayers at 9 a.m. at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas. Thomas Emmett West, 89, of Claryville, died Thursday at Batavia Nursing Home. He was a retired dry cleaner.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret M. Stanhope West; a son, Thomas West of Cold Spring; a sister, Mary Louise Howard of Carrollton, Texas, and four grandchildren.

Donna Elaine Womack, 55, of Mt. Washington, Ohio, died at 7:10 p.m. Thursday at Hospice of Cincinnati. She was a manager for Whispering Pines apartment complex, Mt. Washington, and a member of the Madison Avenue Christian Church, Covington.
Survivors include her husband, Gene G. Womack; daughters, Gayle Elaine Walden of Covington and Jackie Lee McMonigle of Ft. Thomas; and two grandchildren.
There will be no services. Cremation will be by Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.
Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.
Louis Daniel Ziegler, 88, of Cincinnati, died Wednesday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a 50-year employee with Magnus Metal Co. until his retirement in the 1970s, and a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Cincinnati.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Ziegler; a son, Ronald Ziegler of Alexandria; a daughter, Anita Macadam of Middletown, Ohio; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the church, with visitation at noon. Burial will be private.
