VEVAY -- Alma Ruth Alford Benham, 72, of Springfield, Ohio, died Wednesday at her home. She was a native of Ohio County and a member of Springfield United Methodist Church.
Survivors: two sons, Kenneth and William Benham, both of Springfield; and three sisters, Doris Osborn of Palm Bay, Fla., Virginia Richards of Fairview and Aldean Brindley of West Melbourne, Fla. Funeral: 11 a.m. Monday, Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home. Burial: Rising Sun New Cemetery, Rising Sun....
Mrs. Adam Matot
Memorial services for Madelene Matot, 88, a service volunteer for many years, will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the First United Presbyterian Church, West Seneca. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
Mrs. Matot, formerly of Tonawanda, died Tuesday (Nov. 7, 1978) in the Aurora Park Health Care Center after a long illness.
Mrs. Matot worked with church and community groups which made craft projects and knitted items for hospital patients and nursing home residents. She was a former employee of Kensington High School.
The former Madelene Lutz, she was born in Buffalo and attended School 32. She was married
to Adam Matot, and for many years attended Augustan Lutheran Church on Tonawanda.
Surviving are a son, Earl Matot of Chino, Calif.; a daughter, Norma L. Biles; a sister, laura H.B. Lutz; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Prominent City Businessman Dies Tuesday.
Augustus Ashworth, former Education Board Member, succumbs
Augustus Ashworth, 91, of Central Ave., well known local businessman, died at 4:30 pm yesterday at Middletown Hospital where he ad been confined since Dec. 23 of last year.
A resident of Middletown since 1897, Mr. Ashworth was president and treasurer of both Ashworth Coal Co and Ashworth Realty Co. He was active in those organizations until last Dec. 6, when he fell and fractured his hip.
A native of Pomeroy Ohio, Mr. Ashworth was a graduate of the Lebanon Normal School. For five years he taught school at Miltonville, following which he was for 15 years at the Tytus-Gardner Paper Co.
Mr. Ashworth operating the Ashworth Coal & Realty Companies for the last 44 years. From 1908-1916 he was a member of the Board of Education.
The deceased was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was affliated with Jefferson Lodge #90, F. and A.; Middletown Chapter, No 87, Ral Arch Masons; the Dayton Consistory of Scottish Rites and Antioc Shrine.
He is survived by his widow, Pearl; three daughters, Mrs. Nelle Leasure and Miss Elizabeth Ashworth, both of this city, and Mrs. Esther Stevens of Steubenville; one son, Robert, connected with his father in business; five grandchildren; and one brother, Charles of Pomeroy.
The family will receive friends at the McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home tomorrow. Jefferson Lodge #90 will conduct funeral services at the funeral home tomorrow.
Funeral services and Scottish Rite Ring services will be held at the funeral home Friday. The Rev. H.H. Jung will officate with burial in Woodside cemetery.

Jewel M. Alford Hayes, age 92, died Sunday November 22, 1998 at Fort Hamilton Hughes Hospital. She was born March 19, 1906 in Boswarth, Kentucky, daughter of Jerome S. Howard and Pearl Willmott Howard. On February 9, 1927 she married
Alvin Elmer Alford; he preceded her in death February 16, 1961. She married
John W. Hayes June 3, 1972.
She is survived by her husband, John W. Hayes of Hamilton, Ohio; her son, Donald E. Alford and daughter-in law, Margie of Indianapolis, Indiana; three grandchildren, Mrs. Hugh (Donna) Autry of Lakeland, Florida, Barbara Alford of San Diego, California and Scott Alford of Indianapolis, Indiana; a great granddaughter, Cassandra Rae Autry of Lakeland, Florida; a sister, Mrs. Viola Woods of Cincinnati; half sister, Mrs. J.D. (Pat) Brown of Tennessee; a half brother, Jerome S. Howard, Jr. of Roanoke, Virginia and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Howard of Winter Haven, Florida. She has three step children, Willis Hayes of Hermosa Beach, California, Joyce Harn and her husband, Keith of Redondo Beach, California and James Hayes and his wife, Jill and their two sons, John and Jeffrey of Redmond, Washington. A brother, Eugene W. Howard; grandson, Keven D. Alford and her parents preceded her in death.
Jewel was a member of the West Side Baptist Church for 65 years. She was a Sunday School teacher and worked in Bible School. She enjoyed making quilts and knitting. Jewel and her husband were in the process of moving to California where her death occurred. Her husband, John will be moving to California and his new address will be 1910 Clark Land, Redondo Beach, California 90278.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 980 N.W. Washington Blvd.... Burial will be in the Rose Hill Mausoleum....

Leo Alford, 47, of Akron, Ohio, and formerly of Battle Creek died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, in Akron.
He was born July 7, 1951, in Battle Creek to Nathaniel and Margaret (Adams) Alford.
He attended Battle Creek Public Schools and served in the U.S. Army from April 29, 1969, to March 1, 1971, during the Vietnam War.
He was a self-employed auto mechanic in Battle Creek before moving to Ohio five years ago.
His marriage to Darlene Jackson ended in divorce.
Surviving are daughters, Trashon and Teyuna Alford of Battle Creek; three grandchildren; his mother and stepfather, Margaret and Charles Cribbs of Battle Creek; his maternal grandmother, Nannie G. Adams of Battle Creek; brothers Leon Alford and Eric Chapman of Battle Creek, and Nathaniel Alford of Cleveland; sisters, Zenelda Alford of Cleveland and Barbara Chapman of Battle Creek; and stepsisters, Yvonne Hoyt and Charlene Cribbs of Battle Creek.
His father died in 1972.
Community involvement, hobbies: Enjoyed working on automobiles and drawing.
Services: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in fort Custer National Cemetery....

BEAVER DAM -- Dan Allen Alford, 70, a retired assembler with Gates Rubber Company died Sunday in a North Charleston hospital. The funeral will be at 2p.m. Tuesday in Mount Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial, directed by Dial-Murray Funeral Home of Moncks Corner, will be in Johnson Cemetery.
Mr. Alford was born in Conway, a son of Allen M. Alford and Rosie Huggins Alford. He was a Mason. He was a member of Mount Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving are his wife, Eva Page Alford; three daughters, Dale Jane Smith of Lebanon, Nancy Branton of Goose Creek and Stephanie Clark of Moncks Corner; two sons, James N. Alford of Reno NV, and Thomas A. Alford of Beaver Dam; a sister, Joyce Martin of Orangeburg; a brother Vernon Alford of Greenville; 11 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
