Dr. Daniel Boeh, raced horses
Dr. Daniel Henry Boeh delivered a lot of babies in his career, and then he cared for their babies, too.
Dr. Boeh, 87, of Ft. Thomas, died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Ft. Thomas. He was suffering from cancer.
He practiced medicine for about 40 years, said his wife of 57 years, Ophelia Gardner Boeh.
"His patients liked him very well, " she said.
The Boehs met in the 1930s, when Mrs. Boeh moved from Western Kentucky to enter a nurses' training program at the former Speers Hospital in Dayton.
Dr. Boeh, a native of Newport, was doing an internship at the hospital when they met.
He practiced medicine in Hazard and Silver Grove before opening a practice in Dayton.
Dr. Boeh was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Bellevue and the Northern Kentucky and American Medical Associations.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in New Guinea as a doctor for about a year.
The Boehs owned thoroughbred horses and raced them at Churchill Downs in Louisville, River Downs in Cincinnati and at a track near Columbus, Ohio.
In the 1970s, Dr. Boeh was the track doctor at Turfway Park in Florence and at River Downs.
Other survivors include sons, Dr. Daniel G. Boeh of Paducah and David A. Boeh of Bellevue; four grandchildren, one step-grandchild and one step-great-grandchild.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Ft. Thomas. Memorials are suggested to St. John United Church of Christ, 415 Park Ave., Newport, Ky. 41071.
Eva Atwood, 72, of Warsaw, died Wednesday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. She was a homemaker and a nurse's aide. Her husband, Alvin Atwood, died in 1996.
Survivors include daughters, Lisa Alexander of Los Angeles, Brenda Taylor of Cincinnati and Jeanette Humer of Warsaw; a sister, Grace Stewart of Fairfield, Ohio; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis.
George Lewis Davis, 70, of Independence, died at 7:45 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a retired pressman with Multicolor Type Co., Cincinnati, and a member of St. Stephen Episcopal Church, Latonia. He was a member of Bradford Masonic Lodge, Independence, and the Indra Consistory of Scottish Rite, Covington; a volunteer at Ryland Elementary School and an Army veteran of the Korean War. His wife, Loretta Davis, died in 1996.
Survivors include a son, Daryl L. Davis of Elkridge, Md.; a daughter, Dianna D. Brierly of Independence; a sister, Fran Koher of Ft. Thomas; and three grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Craigory Lee Dyer, 27, of Corinth, died Tuesday in Corinth of injuries suffered in an auto accident. He was a member of Assembly of God, Owenton.
Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Dyer; sons, Jason Dyer and Craigory Lee Dyer, both at home; a daughter, Jessica Dyer, at home; his father and stepmother, Aaron and Joyce Dyer of Corinth; a brother, Gregory B. Dyer of Corinth; sisters, Doris Parker of Corinth and Anna N. Hawkins of Owenton; stepbrothers, David Lay, Jimmy Lay, Mark Lay and John Lay, all of Owen County; a stepsister, Janet Jones of Owen County; his grandmother, Marie Dyer of Corinth; and his grandfather and step-grandmother, Holly and Lillie Perkins of Cynthiana.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Morgan Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Harry L. Funk, 73, of Taylor Mill, died at 2:36 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired machinist with General Electric, Cincinnati, and a member of St. Patrick Church, Independence. He was a charter member of Taylor Mill Lions Club, a member of the Northern Kentucky Umpires Association, and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Funk; daughters, Dona Waechter of Taylor Mill and Claudine DeMoss of Grants Lick; brothers, Shelby Funk of Florence and Edmund Funk of Cincinnati; a sister, Claudine Bastin of Cape Coral, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Urban "Abe" Geglein, 76, of Ft. Thomas, died Wednesday at his home. He was a retired machinist with Beddinghaus Business Forms, Cincinnati. His wife, Rita Mae Kuhl Geglein, died in 1974.
Survivors include daughters, Carol Scott of Highland Heights and Reginia Knabel of Potsdam, N.Y.; sons, Stanley Geglein and Robert Geglein, both of Cincinnati, and Richard Geglein of Ft. Thomas; sisters, Hilda Koehler of Dayton, Ohio, Martha Wuennemann of Hamilton, Ohio, Marian Nelp of New Richmond, Ohio, and Paulette Vogelsang of Loveland, Ohio; brothers, Albert Geglein of Dayton, Ohio, and Robert Geglein of Cincinnati; and eight grandchildren.

Mary Emma Hartman, 69, of Ludlow, died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a member of Mother of God Church, Covington; Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 280 Auxiliary in Newport, and a volunteer with the March of Dimes.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Leo Hartman; sons, Richard R. Hartman of Southgate, Daniel R. Hartman of Burlington, Lawrence A. Hartman of Ludlow and John J. Hartman of Covington; daughters, Diane Hartman, Mary Lee Hartman and Ruth Ellen Hartman, all of Ludlow, Deborah Deaton of Covington, Patricia Hartman of Park Hills and Donna Rigney of Burlington; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

P. Joe Helmer, 78, of Ft. Wright, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.
He was owner of P. Joe Helmer Plumbing Co., Ft. Wright.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Stephens Helmer; daughters, Terri Woodside of Ft. Mitchell, Jo Ann Kramer of Villa Hills and Jeanette Schwartz of San Mateo, Calif.; sons, Steve Helmer of Union and John Helmer of Big Bone; a brother, Ed Helmer of Walton; sisters, Mary Schmidt of Villa Hills, Frances Grogan of Ft. Wright, Dorothy Voskuhl of Crescent Springs, Agnes Staverman of Erlanger and Evelyn Couch of Edgewood; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Christine Elizabeth Lawrence Mitchell, 64, of Paris, Ky., died Thursday at Columbia Hospital, Lexington. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, James Donald Mitchell; sons, Garry Mitchell of Burlington, Robert Lawrence of Lawrenceburg, and James Donald Mitchell Jr. of Paris, Ky.; daughters, Barbara Richie, Debbie Wilcher, Janice Mitchell, Julie Traylor and Crystal Mitchell, all of Paris, Ky., Elizabeth Sargent of Morehead, Donna Overly of Bourbon County and Tammy Mitchell of Scott County; brothers, Carl Lawrence of Paris, Ky., and Ora Lawrence of Lexington; 29 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Shirley Reeves, 88, of Butler, died Wednesday at Grant Manor Nursing Home, Williamstown. She was a homemaker. Her husband, John Louis Reeves, died in 1980.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Robert D. Ryan, 56, of Cincinnati, formerly of Pendleton
County, died Thursday at the Ft. Hamilton-Hughes Memorial Hospital, Hamilton.
Survivors include a son, Craig Ryan of New Orleans, La; a daughter, Amy Sorensen of Draper, Utah; brothers, Joe Ryan of Butler, Charlie Ryan of Newport, Stanley Ryan of Fairfield and Ralph Ryan of Blue Ash; a sister, Elaine Cox of Alexandria; and one grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be there from noon until the time of services on Saturday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.
Denise Scott, 31, of Covington, was killed Nov. 6 in her home. She was a homemaker.

Walter R. Scott, 71, of Alexandria, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Hospice Unit, Covington. He was a retired sheet metal worker with Sheet Metal Workers Union Local No. 141, Cincinnati; a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Camp Springs, and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Jo Scott; sons, Steven Scott of Wilder and Mark Scott of Ft. Thomas; daughters, Bobbie Jo Scott of Butler, Barbara Suzann Young and Robin Moore, both of Alexandria, and Jackie Freeman of Grants Lick; brothers, Jerry Scott of Cold Spring and David Scott of Taylor Mill; sisters, Jean Falk and Sandy Scott, both of Covington; and 12 grandchildren.
