Thelma Lee Dwyer, famed for pie, chili
The most popular items on the menu at Dwyer's Restaurant in Germantown were Thelma Lee's pies, cakes, tarts and bowls of her steaming chili.
Thelma Lee Dwyer was cook, baker and waitress at the restaurant she operated with her husband until she was about 75.
"She was well-liked, had a lot of energy, smiled a lot and talked a lot, " said her nephew, John Woodward of Maysville.
"And she made good chili."
Mrs. Dwyer, 85, died Monday at Maysville Extended Care Center. Her husband, Matthew A. Dwyer, also is deceased. She grew up near Germantown and married

Before she married, Mrs. Dwyer got a job at a dime store in Maysville, where she worked for almost 20 years, her nephew said.
The couple never had children, but they owned several bulldogs that they treated like family, Woodward said.
"They loved those dogs, " he said.
Mrs. Dwyer had a talent for baking, which was one reason they decided to open their small restaurant in the 1960s. The eatery was a favorite of town residents, Woodward said.
"They were just plain old country folks, " he said. "They stayed at home a lot and enjoyed each other's company."
Other survivors include a brother, Harlan D. Woodward of Maysville.
