Donald W. Ware, funeral director

Donald W. Ware was a farmer who also ran a hardware store and became a funeral director.

Mr. Ware, a Bracken County native who lived in Brooksville, was renowned for his work ethic and energy, said daughter-in-law Polly Ware of Cynthiana.

"He was always on the go. He never stopped, " Mrs. Ware said.

"He was just a fun-loving person. I don't think he ever ran into anyone who didn't like him."

Mr. Ware, 66, died Friday at the Hospice Care Center at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

He was a funeral director with the Robertson County Funeral Home in Mt. Olivet and the Ware Funeral Home in Cynthiana.

Mr. Ware's easygoing personality and knowledge of the area allowed him to comfort many families, his daughter-in-law said. He obtained his license as a funeral director after his son opened his funeral home in 1974. At one point, he ran the farm, sold hardware and tended funerals during the same period.

"He was a very special person to a lot of people, " Mrs. Ware said.

Mr. Ware was a member and former deacon of the Powersville Baptist Church; former owner- operator of the Western Auto & True Value Hardware Store, Brooksville; and a member of the Mt. Olivet Lions Club. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 154, Oleika Temple of Lexington, and the Bracken County Historical Society.

Other survivors include his wife, Jean Cummins Ware; a son, Tom Ware of Cynthiana; a daughter, Barbara Ware Williams of Paintsville; a sister, Helen Galbraith of Brooksville; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Powersville Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Robertson County Funeral Home, Mt. Olivet, and 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Powersville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass or Powersville Cemetery.

Doris Bertsch, 70, of Kenton Hills, died Tuesday at her home.

She was a wardrobe seamstress for the Aronoff Center and the Broadway Series in Cincinnati and a member of St. Agnes Church, Ft. Wright.

Her husband, Hans Bertsch, died in 1985. Survivors include a daughter, Denise Bosch of Park Hills; and a sister, Maria Pfaff of Dormettingen, Germany.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Agnes Church, Ft. Wright. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Burial will be St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Agnes Church, Ft. Wright.

Ray Deaton, 74, of Highland Heights, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. He was a retired pipefitter for Interlake Steel and a member of the Highland Avenue Baptist Tabernacle.

Survivors include his wife, Loraine Deaton; sons, James Richard Deaton of Dayton and Vaughn Combs Deaton of Newport; daughters, Janice Sebastian of Cold Spring, Mary Yarger of Gallatin, Tenn., Donna Scharber of Alexandria and Diana Ashton of Southgate; a brother, James Deaton of Newport; a sister, Lula Morris of Newport; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Radel Funeral Home, Newport, with visitation 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Lela Hines, 98, of Elsmere, died Friday at home. Arrangements are pending at Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington.

Wanda Fanthorp Kaelin, 73, of Park Hills, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired secretary.

Survivors include her husband, Alvin Kaelin; daughters, Michelle Warren of Erlanger and Angela Smith of Union; sons, Steve Fanthorp of Cold Spring, Marc Fanthorp of Park Hills and Mike Fanthorp of Union; a brother, Gene Redmond of Covington; stepdaughters, Donna Sheppard of Ft. Mitchell and Cheri Kaelin of Erlanger; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, with visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Constance Joe Kleier, 2 days old, died at 2:20 p.m. Thursday at Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati.

Survivors include her parents, Joseph and Connie Pfetzer Kleier of Villa Hills; four brothers, Christopher Kleier, Michael Kleier, Jerome Kleier and Jacob Kleier, at home; three sisters, Katherine Kleier, Emily Kleier and Anna Kleier, at home; and grandmother, Lucille Pfetzer of Covington.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. John Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell. Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.

Sylvia Kemp Lowe, 96, of Lawrenceburg, Ky., formerly of Williamstown, died Thursday at Columbia Suburban Hospital, Louisville, after an extended illness. She was a member of the Williamstown Baptist Church.

Mrs. Lowe was the widow of Walker Lowe. Survivors include a sister, Ann Case of Lawrenceburg, and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, with visitation from 3 p.m. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery.

Anna Blanche Menke, 88, of Florence, formerly of Walton, died at 5:15 a.m. Friday at her residence. She was a homemaker and a member of the Walton Christian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Fox of Florence; a son, Don Menke of Paris, Ky.; a stepdaughter, Virginia Hempfling of Port Richie, Fla.; a stepson, Bernard Menke of Deberry, Fla.; three grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton, with visitation from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Juanita McIntyre, 88, of Ft. Thomas, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a secretary for the Cincinnati Bus Line and a member of the First Christian Church of Ft. Thomas, the Daughters of America and Senior Citizens of Bellevue.

Survivors include close friends Janie Hill and Patty McClanahan, both of Covington.

Services will be at 2 p.m Monday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas, with visitation from 1 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church of Ft. Thomas.

Cecilia M. Newman, 85, of Cold Spring, died at 1:19 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. She was a retired co-owner of Parkview Market in Alexandria and the Ft. Thomas Grocery, with her husband, Archie Newman Sr., who died in 1989. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring, and a member of the Newport Elks Auxiliary and Campbell County Senior Citizens.

Survivors include a daughter, Dixie Steinmann of Cold Spring; sons, Archie "Bill" Newman Jr. and Jerry Newman, both of Cold Spring, and Jim Newman of Melbourne; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas. Entombment will be at St. Stephen cemetery Mausoleum, Ft. Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Newport Elks Lodge No. 273, 3700 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, Ky. 41076.

Walter Jack Perkey, 62, of Newport, died at 1:28 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a baker for the Butternut Bakery, Cincinnati, and a member of the National Guard for 17 years.

Survivors include a brother, Bill Perkey of Baltimore, and sisters, Betty Clemons of Mt. Olivet, Vonnie Hubbard of Georgetown and Freda Dunford of Taylor Mill.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence, with visitation from 9 a.m. Burial will be in the Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Robert John Petrie, 80, of Cold Spring, died at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. He was a retired teacher in the Campbell County School system.

A World War II Army veteran, he was a member of several organizations, including the St. John Anglican Church of Dayton, Ky., Alexandria Masonic Lodge No. 152, Scottish Rite, and Syrian Shrine.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Petrie of Cold Spring; a son, Robert James Petrie of Cold Spring; daughters, Carol Bryan of Alexandria and Susan Teruel of Lima, Ohio; brothers, Eugene Petrie of Alexandria and Kenneth Petrie of Florida; eight grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John Anglican Catholic Church, Dayton. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Alexandria Funeral Home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Shriners Hospital, Lexington, or to the church.

Lula Stidham, 87, of Cincinnati, formerly of Bellevue, died Friday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Dayton.

Her husband, Roy Stidham, died in 1940. A son, Ronald Stidham, died in 1969. Survivors include a son, Kenneth Stidham of Viola, Kan.; daughters, Elizabeth Ann Stidham of Monfort Heights and Maxine Johnson of Bellevue; and three sisters, Myrtle Wiseman of Lexington and Lois Embry and Zella Guilfoyle of Newport.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Lewis Funeral Home, Irvine. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue, and from 9 a.m. until time of services Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Warner Family Cemetery, Irvine. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church of Dayton, 501 Dayton Ave., Dayton 41074, or the Salvation Army Senior Center, 11th and Brighton streets, Newport 41071.

Rita Duckworth Velat, 54, of Cynthiana, died Thursday at her home. She was an employee of Vuteq in Georgetown, a Marine Corps veteran and a member of the Beaver Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, George B. Velat Jr.; a daughter, Kathy Potter of Pikeville; a sister, Pamela Duckworth of Lexington; two grandsons.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana, with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Beaver Baptist Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass or the Beaver Baptist Church Cemetery.

Edward Walton, 83, of Ft. Thomas, died Friday at Highlands of Ft. Thomas. He was a retired trustee for the First National Bank of Cincinnati, a member of Latonia Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge in Covington. He was the husband of Louise Walton, who died in May. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Hazel Bray of Ft. Wright; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia, with visitation 5 to 7 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Highlands Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Latonia Baptist Church, 3800 Church St., Covington 41015.

Myrtle Webster, 91, of Warsaw, died Friday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. A homemaker, she was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church, Dry Ridge, and the Flat Creek Homemakers. Her husband, Elzie Webster, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Theresa Franks of Warsaw; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge, with visitation from 1 p.m. Burial will be in Pleasant View Baptist Church Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
